Pokemon Go

Is out now! For iOS, in the USA, at least!
I found this thread with a lot of helpful information in it: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/4rlnmc/some_tips_from_my_last_days_playing/
For those that do not know, Pokemon Go is a (free) augmented reality mobile game (for android and iOS). Basically, you can see yourself on a map, and see things around you, which include Pokestops (which are landmarks and etc that award you points for going to) and also pokemon. When you get a pokemon, you can turn on your camera and it'll show the beastie standing there in front of you. It requires walking around, exploring, etc.
So, anyone playing? Any fun stories?
My second catch, because I forgot to snag the first one:
-
I have a Charmander named Prince Charm. Gonna go exploring tomorrow with my galpal.
-
My current captures

I played the beta fairly extensively, so I can try answering questions also. However, the release version is already fairly different... so my info may be incomplete.

Is it bad I wonder if I could run this on my tablet? Or the reason I finally get a smart phone...
-
@silentsophia As long as you have iOS 8+ or Android 4.3+ I don't see why not, however, unless your tablet has Cell Service and GPS, it might not function correctly. I had a call this morning about it with an iPad, and it worked on an iPad with 4g LTE service on it.
-
@silentsophia Yeah, as @Seamus says, I can't imagine it working without a data connection. And it chugs data pretty hard.

It does explicitly say it is not for tablets and may not work.
-
@Seamus Makes sense. I've gotten plenty of phone stuff to work on the tablet.
-
OMG, there's a charmander in my back yard!
-
-
There was a trigglypuff in my shed!
-
My work is lousy with Pokemon and the pokestops. It's pretty neat, I have to say.
-
Impatiently waiting the Canadian release. Anyone know when that's going to be?
-
I just evolved my first Pokemon! This is definitely a cute little game. I didn't really have any interest in Ingress, but I'm enjoying the hell out of this.
-
Once it starts to cool down and walking doesn't result in death be heat exposure I plan on going around my neighborhood to see what can be found around here.

It's being rolled out over time. Australia got it first, then the US... With the server issues, they probably had to delay other countries.
However, you can do what a lot of people did when it hit Australia; download it separately. It SHOULD still work, largely, if you do, but there might be some fiddly bits sometimes.
http://www.mtlblog.com/2016/07/pokemon-go-is-live-in-canada/# has links for how to do it on Android or iOS. Personally, I don't generally recommend it, BUT, I know people who haven't had issues.

I am not surprised that happened, although I am surprised it didn't take very long for it to...
-
And this guy nearly lost his job while playing it at work.
