Any non-8 bit inspired RPGs or such games you guys can recommend for the Nintendo Switch?
I've a new one but for whatever reason games like Mario Odyssey just don't do it for me for long. Or I can happily play Kart in local mode but I'm not really into that kind of style of game overall.

@arkandel Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a huge action JRPG. If you like JRPGs, it's a great example of the kind, and has a lot to do. Tales of Vesperia is also a JRPG, and should be coming out this week.

Piggybacking on this comments to +1 Tales games.
Also FFX/FFX-2 and FFXII are coming to Switch soon. All are great in their own ways. (Yes, even FFX-2, great combat system!)

Valkyria Chronicles is coming out for the Switch.
-
@arkandel Fire Emblem isn't technically an RPG (it is a strategy game) but I definitely recommend it.
And Dragon Quest Builders (I believe that is on Switch as well.)
-
This controversy happened.
I strongly doubt BF5 failed was because it placed women in WW2 battles where historically they weren't any. If it was a good game it'd have rocked the charts no matter if they had used furries manning those pillboxes... but it did fail, and that seems to be what the bad press fixated on.
-
@admiral Fire Emblem is very much an RPG, though. It even promotes itself as a 'tactical RPG'. The story in it is amazing, the lore throughout the world, even the composition of the party tends to look like a D&D group of one flavor or another. And obviously yes, I would highly recommend it.
-
So I've finally gotten into a video game on mobile.
-
@arkandel The trailer for BF5 looked utterly absurd for a "WWII" game, and the presence of female soldiers (which, btw. did exist in WWII in specific circumstances) was the least of its problems. I wasn't impressed with the changes they made to Battlefront2 (which apparently is the same engine) so I can understand why it bombed.
-
@auspice I've been playing this so I can write a review for work, and despite myself I'm rather enjoying it. I never played the original Ragnarok, so I'm finding it a little overwhelming, but I'm getting there.

I never played the original, either, but I feel the same! It definitely has a learning curve, but there's certainly some things given over to it that make it pretty great for a mobile game.
I love that I can select a square on the world map and it will just auto-travel me through each intervening square until I arrive.
I love that I can select a mob type in the auto-attack menu and it'll do its thing. I despaired when I saw the '0/300 Rocker' type quests until I discovered that. I hate fetch quests in most MMOs and holy shit they'd be horrid in a mobile MMO, but that allowance makes it so much better! And the 'Assistant' you unlock around level 20 makes dailies a lot easier, too. Select your daily of choice and it'll take you on your way to what you need.
-
@auspice Ah, I unlocked the assistant but sort of forgot to get around to looking at what it does. <.<
I will say the gated XP thing is sort of off putting, and there seems to be a lot of push towards the cash shop, which is also a turn off, but it seems like as long as you don't have a drive to be "OMG UBER #1" the game can be pretty enjoyable and playable without spending.

and donut county
Here is a game that is something you buy not for the game but for the charm. Donut County oozes personality and made me grin, and was over way, way too soon.
-
I'm waiting for a good sale price to get Donut Country. I want it! But I just don't have the $20 for it just now.
-
Garden Paws is the most fucking adorable thing I've played this year, and there's so much to do from gathering to crafting, quests and farming, etc. All while being ridiculously cute little animals with oversized heads. It's multiplayer with fun Twitch streaming integration as well.
-
@auspice I wouldn't pay more than 5 bucks for it. I beat it in like an hour.
-
Guys, I got a Switch for Christmas and lemme say this Breath of the Wild game is pretty okay!

XBC2's mediocrity combined with its gross fanservice made me weep bitter tears given how much I loved XBC1 and the way you could set a separate wardrobe from the armor so you could ignore the gross fanservice.

I paid $10 and was glad I did. The game's short, as said above, but it's a goddam delight. There's a bit in the end that could be my only RL LOL from a video game in years.
-
I loved playing the end credits.
If Donut Country ever hits $5, folks, either buy it or beg a friend to gift it to you. Then just settle in under a blanket and enjoy.

The Trashopedia by itself is worth $5.

That is the price point I've been watching for.
