Borderlands 3 is a ton of fun. If you liked the previous games you’ll like this one. If you didn’t, you won’t.

My only gripe is the design of the player characters all seem pretty lame especially when compared to the NPCs. Maya and Lilith and Tyreen all look way cooler than Amara or Moze.

I wish there was a way to upgrade old guns to your current level but I guess that’d remove a lot of the grind, which is half the point.

I'm loving Zane. Giving up your grenade for 2 abilities that allow you to run and gun around everything like it's Goldeneye is fun as Hell.

I'm glad they're still writing for the immersive universe.

I can wait for it to get out of Epic.

@Thenomain Have you shot at the TORGUE cereal boxes yet?

There are so many little, fun things going on in this game. Like when you kill a psycho and he yells: "MY CHILI RECIPE DIES WITH ME."

I also love the "Fifth Element" secondary gun power. Its not called that, but in reference to it. It's one of many new gun features.

There's a number of guns where you can secondary fire some kind of projectile that tags a bad guy. You can then run behind cover and shoot around a corner and the bullets will track the tagged target. No need to aim for 8-10 seconds.

Amara is fun but nothing about her really stands out to me yet. She doesnt have an “OMG” like FL4K’s crit stuff or Moze’s infinite shotgun and grenades stuff.

I may just be missing things.

                  Haven't played.

Not willing to give money to Epic Games.

No logical reason. It may be overridden at the first sale.

But that screen-shot reminds me of everything I love about Borderlands.

I can't buy it myself even if I wanted to do so (money issues) so I was watching a streamer play it. There's some pretty hilarious lines in it. lol

If you can afford or beg for Tiny Tina's Assault on Dungeon Keep, do so. There's an interview? video rambling? with Anthony Burch where he says that TTAoDK was their third attempt at making a popular DLC, after the first two were critically meh'd. He says how he noticed that most of what people were excited about and repeated in Borderlands was the writing.

So they did TTAoDK as this DLC where nothing much happened, and it exploded.

Watch a playthrough of Tales from the Borderlands and tell me that the corporate lobby scene isn't absolutely amazing.

So yeah, it's good that Gearbox is sticking with that.

                      --

Hm, no Anthony Burch in the Wikipedia writing credits. I wonder if he was asked.

@Thenomain I think B3 was gearbox's make it or break it moment. In fact, we may be a little lucky to be seeing Borderlands 3 at all.

They made the BONEHEADED move of releasing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on Ps3 a few weeks before the retail release of the Ps4, but then didnt also provide a Ps4 version of the game. (So, people bought ps4s and passed on the ps3 borderlands because it wasnt ps4. Sales were severely impacted).

Then...Battleborn. To this day I'll argue that the game had amazing potential, but it was a MOBA styled shooter with an eccentric cast of characters that was released the same day as another FPS featuring an eccentric cast of characters: OVERWATCH. Battleborn went head to head against Overwatch and lost. They didn't just lose; they got curb-stomped. A few weeks after launch very few people were playing Battleborn at all. Despite liking Battleborn more than Overwatch, I couldn't matchmake for shit because eveeeeryone was playing Overwatch.

So Borderlands 3 is the obvious "oh god please save our company" move. Go with the moneymaker. Still, I have a suspicion that Gearbox almost didn't survive those last 2 losses.

I thought Battleborn was the better of the two games too.

To be fair, they didn't 'release it the same day' so much as Blizzard offered it's free public beta weekend for Overwatch over Battleborn's release. I'm pretty sure this was more of a calculated 'no, fuck you' from Blizzard designed to take the hot air out of their launch, and it worked. You could even say they were a little.... cold (I'll see myself out).

Anyone want a free month of Humble Monthly? I have a link they emailed me. It automatically enrolls you for month-to-month Humble Monthly when you activate it, but I think you can cancel if you don't want to pay for anything.

Edit: It's just the one trial, by the way. Singular. Ack.

The next bundle coming up in September starts at Battletech, so the lineup for that monthly bundle does not look too bad.

If you like JRPGs, Dragon Quest XI will take you about 100-150hr to max achievements. I'm clocking 200+ and close to finishing all the accolades, some of which are disgusting RNG (hi casino games like getting a Royal Flush).

Dragon Quest 11 was the best “old era” style JRPG I’ve played in a long long time.

I tried playing Chrono Trigger. I was quite eager to experience one of the most loved JRPGs of all time, but the lack of pausing in their semi-turn-based combat turned me off. Not entirely, but just enough.

The only JRPG I tried that I immediately liked was Breath of Death VII: The Beginning.

Did you change the option from Active to Wait? It at least pauses things from happening in combat if you have a menu open (items, skills, etc.)
