But the true issue was that since attacking scaled so much better than defending, combat very often came down to who won initiative and got to one-shot the other guy. Dead people don't get to fight back.
Agreeeeeeeed, and, very true to reality in that fashion.

VTR β Half-Damned: There are creatures tainted by Kindred blood, yet not quite among the Damned. Building on Vampire: The Requiem Second Edition, Half-Damned covers ghouls, revenants, and dhampir as playable characters.
Aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahhahaahahahahaha.
DHAMPIRES.
I keep thinking of the people I know who like Vampire, and the looks on their faces when they see that, and I cannot stop laughing.
-
On combat: I still miss Aikido, Qinna, and Chain Weapons. They may not have been broken like Kung Fu or Combat Marksmanship, but they were FUN. Also... Martial Arts in GMC is still totally broken. Ask anyone that's fought against my Bruja.
On dhampir: I give approximately -3.5 fucks about them. 99.9% of which stems from the fact that I have read neither B&S nor the Half-Damned stuff. ^_^
Edit: More seriously, though... if they're anything like the dhampir I remember, may they DIAF slowly and painfully. >.>

Out of morbid curiosity, why? I'm probably missing something.

Is grappling still a nightmare in GMC? (At least I always found it to be one)

I'm pretty sure grappling is a pain in the badonk almost everywhere. Or horribly imbalanced. Or both.
-
-
A pain in the backside, yes. Badonk is just more fun to say or type.
-
Grappling is... yeah, pretty much a PITA no matter what. Though I still maintain that's because there's just too goddamn many merits and powers that affect it. The rolls themselves are straight forward and simple enough.

It conjures up every angst ridden gothic stereotype that Vampire was based on in Masquerade and has tried to pretend isn't the case in Requiem. Yes, yes, I'm aware it's a thing with actual legends, blah blah blah. It's also often used as the most stereotypical embodiment of teenagers wearing black, plastic fangs, and speaking in super melodramatic voices, proclaiming themselves to be D'AMPYRE.
Somewhere, somebody is gnashing their teeth, I promise you.

I don't drink blood, per se, but I'm totally the Prince of Darkness, per se.
-
I'm on board if I get to app Blade.

WoD 2nd Edition style grappling is fairly easy, in my opinion, but, by RAW, it is also very powerful. If you are, say, swordfighter and a wrestler grabs you up, you are fucked.
Also, Dhampyres (I think they even had the y) were already introduced in one of the Night Horror Books - they were fucking stupid and OP as fuck and only good as ST run antagonists.

Sadly I have but one upvote to give. -
Many thanks to TJ for making this thread for, basically, me and my sometimes uncontrollable pedantic nature.

Wasn't just you, Theno. I wanted to keep a running resource for what was coming up, too. (But you are welcome)
