The State of the Chronicles of Darkness
-
I had the same reaction.
-
I feel like most of the maneuvers could just be tacked on as alternative choices for the Fighting Styles we already have from the God-Machine Chronicles and that would be a better way of doing it.
-
I will admit I feel the same way I did when Armory/Reloaded came out. It's nice and all, but the glut of Fighting Styles is kind of disconcerting.
-
@Huzuruth Its good to have tons of options.

I don't know about that. At some point all the extra fluff isn't adding to the game, just to the game's complexity.
The nWoD doesn't need the identity crisis - it has to either be an easy, straight forward system that gets out of the way and lets RP happen or it has to be about a plethora of options to offer depth in number crunching for powergamers to theorycraft.
It shouldn't try be both or it will be neither.
-
@ThatOneDude While I will also champion more over less, fighting styles seemed to be the worst route to add more to. I do appreciate certain newer styles (like Falconry and Mounted Combat), and reintroducing ones we had before (such as Archery and Shurikenjutus/Throwing). However, I do hate that some styles/arts represented in GMC are now defunct or can now become even more complicated. For my game I think I may just incorporate the ones for weapons that didn't have representation in GMC, and ignore the rest.
-
i@Huzuruth I get what you and @Arkandel are saying, but, now there are styles in print that can be used if they fit is more to my point.
-
I'm in the A++ train for the new fighting styles and such, as well as retreads of old ones. Denying people access to stuff not because it's overpowered or otherwise broken, but just because you don't think anybody needs more options, just smacks of laziness.

So a second dump of testable content from Hurt Locker dropped yesterday.
Perhaps most noteworthy, it includes 3 new "Minor" templates, not tied to any game line or supernatural template.
-
Well at least I know who they want to hurt.
Me.
-
...I kinda like the templates. I've always felt the nWoD was really "small" in comparison with the oWoD and too neatly tied together. I can't speak for the mechanics, having just glanced over them, but anything that makes the world a stranger place is A+ in my book.
-
All seems pretty cool.
-
I agree. I like the cut of their jib, here.
-
Some of them seem a pain to implement as PCs in a MUX, for different reasons, but it is super cool to see them offering minor templates and stuff that are entirely divorced from anything else (i.e. any other gameline) and which broaden the scope of "what is possible in the World of Darkness". Not everything has to have something to do with one of the splats available on a game: not everything has to be Strix, or Spirits, or Cryptids (though I foresee tons of Cryptids because they are new and awesome). Sometimes weird shit just is. And that's really cool.
-
Lancea et Sanctum playtest content.
At first glance, a lot of it is not very MU-friendly, but can be adapted if the players who have it are reasonable.
-
Does anyone know (it's not clear to me) just what they're planning to do with assorted factions' powers in the various splats?
For example is this LS stuff, when they finished testing, going to be released as part of 2.0 Vampire or in a book of their own? Are all Covenants (/Tribes/etc) going to get a similar treatment or just some?
It all just seems to be poorly documented, but it might be that I'm not paying too close attention or not checking the right parts of Onyx Path's web site.
-
You're not paying attention, broheim! All the Covenant stuff coming out lately is for Secrets of the Covenants, a book that covers details for all five main Covenants (and, if we're super lucky comes with guidelines for creating our own).
-
@Coin I stand informed! Thanks.

Official Information has been dropping now for Beast: the Primordial. The following two links are full of information,

http://theonyxpath.com/beastfamily/The Onyx Path Said:
In Beast: The Primordial, you play one of the Children, a human being with the Soul of one of the great monsters of legend: dragons, gryphons, giants, kraken, and worse. All your life you’ve had the same nightmare, one of the classics so common to human nature. Hunted by a relentless predator. Dragged into the murky depths. Dropped from great heights. Held under the thumb of something huge and powerful. Or simply the knowledge that some nameless, shapeless thing out there in the dark was stalking you. Nothing human beings haven’t suffered since the dawn of civilization, except you weren’t content to remain the victim, and so one night you didn’t run.

@tragedyjones
Don't go to any forum to discuss Beast. The PDF got leaked and, while stuff is changing, people are screaming SJW MRA WHY CAN'T I PLAY HEROES BEASTS SUCK I CAN'T BE A DRAGON.It's as bad as D&D edition wars.
