Eldritch - A World of Darkness MUX

Mind, being SuperFriends doesn't mean you have to actually spill Sphere secrets. In fact you really shouldn't unless you can't help it. And if you do spill secrets, them being your SuperFriend is not an excuse, and you shouldn't expect other PCs or NPCs to give you a break because feelings. Especially you shouldn't get OOC angry. This is part of what gives it such a bad reputation, I think. However but bad players will do bad things, because that's what bad players do. No reason to disparage a whole concept just because some assholes can't help themselves but be assholes. Just stomp on them when it happens.
-
@Sanguine, you can absolutely do that, as long as there is some unifying factor that makes them a group outside of their species, so to speak. We won't really let people take Neighborhoods with the "oh, well, we just live here" reasoning. There needs to be something behind it: some goal, some way you are making that part of the grid yours. Are you a gang that just happens to have mixed membership? Are you maybe a family who just had the bad luck of all becoming something different? Etc. A lot of this will be trial and error, but yes, in short, we will allow.
That said, a lot of what @lordbelh, @Wizz, and @Arkandel have said is true, especially the spilling secrets part. Also take into account that werewolves, at least, are so heavily pack oriented that it could really be a problem.
In short: if you are willing to deal with all of the issues, consequences, and fallout, you can absolutely make some SuperFriends.
Forgot the other question:
Supernaturals will be available when a) Werewolf: The Forsaken, 2nd Edition comes out; and 2) I have read it, judged it, found it wanting, and applied it to the game; iii) @Thenomain integrates it into our stat system.
Hopefully the game will come out this month and I will devour it like I devour cup-a-noodles, but right now the vast majority of the waiting is due to OP and their slow-ass publishing.
-
@Coin Brilliant. No werewolves in our group and we have reasons and goals! And yeah, all that is taken into account.
Thanks for the update. I guess this means I must stare at Theno and OP now. (It's cute how you think the book might come out this month)
-
@Sanguine, shut up. I have hope.
It's gonna be fun the first time an angel drops in on a vampire and goes, "Where's your friend?" AWWWWYISSS
-
@Coin So you're saying I should be putting aside a grizzly to launch at you as well? Everyone knows angels are assholes.
-
@Sanguine
Bring it. Bears are nothing. NOTHING. I will retaliate with HIPPOS. -
I see your hippo and raise you two monkeys riding a wild boar.

I might stop attacking long enough to say wtf for that.
And stealing a friend's suggestion, I would counter with Honey badger! -
Today I learned that hippos kill 2,900 people a year.
-
@Coin I think your animal projectile of choice may have beaten mine.
-
@Sanguine
Just imagine a hippo flying at you from above like a giant fat murdermachine ready to tear you up so bad you won't even remember what having limbs was like! -
@Coin Great now I have to add hippo enclosure to my list of wants. DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID?!

Re: @Sanguine's question about opening for supers... in addition to what @Coin said about it being sort of tied to the release of Werewolf (remember when it was supposed to be out in November 2014? Yeah, us too.), the other part of this is that we’d hoped that during soft-open we’d start to get supers through the approval process. So the idea/goal is that you’ll also be working on your super (if you want one) during that time, getting them statted, and Demons will get their chargen-specific heavy lifting done then so that, when we DO open for everything, we can do approvals en masse without a lot of people impatiently waiting for staff to get to them in the queue.
Also, during this time in addition to playing mortals and getting a feeling for the grid and the setting, I imagine people will be working out their ties to other characters. We can probably have the sphere channels open for networking and the now standard RP rooms off the OOC room for backstory scenes and that sort of thing, and some general mass-collaboration between players and other players and players and staff.
I played one of the first batch of Changelings on HM when they opened, and despite there being a high degree of staff-side chaos with that which I do NOT want to emulate, there was also a lot of sphere-wide collaboration between everyone involved on pretty much every level that was fun. That many people adding their touches to the underlying setting made for a very interesting finished product and also a nice sense of community and investment from the players. Having fond memories of that, I’m hoping for something a bit along those lines with our game.

One of the cool changes to Werewolf is that "pack" is going to be much, much more loosely defined in 2.0-- it won't just literally mean the actual Uratha involved, but also any Wolfbloods, and associated pure mortals in the territory, and even (implied via a few new rites) pets. It's structured kind of like a gang, with some core members and then people "in the know," and then those they protect. Who's to say other bump-in-the-nighters can't at least unofficially be part of a pack?
Edit: As described here.
-
@Wizz
Pretty much exactly that, yes, though to have a "pack" we are probably still going to require at least 3 werewolves, the same way we're going to require 3 vampires for a coterie, or 3 Demons for a ring. But yes, you're absolutely right. -
That will be very handy, particularly for whoever wants to play a Dead Wolf Gangrel...
-
@Eerie Oh that sounds great. Thanks for the further info. I hope that the mass approvals go as smoothly as you anticipate and there isn't too much chaos. Having everyone ready to go and being able to backscene to get a feel for characters will be nice. The group channels being open would greatly be appreciated as well.

If anything I get OOC irritated when people do this for no reason. Just the other day my Mage was in a room where someone started just spilling everything about a sphere which wasn't theirs either. It hadn't even come up! It was just, like, a conversation starter - 'hey, let me tell you all about <X>'. And it was accurate, too, not colored by perception (and misperception) or clouded in something resembling dread or incomprehension but straight to the point, like a wikipedia article. My PC had no reason to mind that, in fact it probably benefits him, but it pissed me off.
But nothing can be done about it.
-
People want to be INSTANT BESTIES or INSTANT TWU WUV or INSTANT EVERYTHING on a MUSH. There's no story there, but they want it anyway. It annoys me, and it makes these encounters with PCs who want to tell me their life story feel somehow more shallow, because there's nowhere we can really go from there.

I think the best reaction to this sort of thing is to tell the person this. Just be like, "Look, this kind of soured me because you have no reason to tell me all of these secrets about this sphere and you're not really trying to cloud it in mystery or give it any sort of respect in context, so I'm just gonna go."
Sometimes people get the point. Other times they don't. But sometimes. Just sooooometimes.
Besides, if we do nothing every single time there's nothing can be done because we don't actually do anything.
