        @bored Totally agree. I was just trying to provide options, but I agree that it's usually best to use the mechanics already in place to represent what a character is doing.

          Best tabletop based swashbuckling I have played was using the fate system which has really simple mechanics. It also lets you use a fate point to add to your roll, add an element to the scene "The low laying box on the floor behind him!" Or add a flashback that benefits you. So it is super flexible.

            I have managed to pull off ye olde swash and buckle here and there. PFS actually was the most recent and worked out. Though its easier when you fuck up THE DICE FUCK YOU, to turn Ha-HAA! into a scream of Ha-H-AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
