I picked up a freelance writing gig.

I hate it. I am very close to going 'Look, I've already put over 10 hours into this. It's not worth $90 anymore' to the guy that hired me. Whoever he has as his 'editor' for the writers is a fucking idiot.

Edit me for grammar. Edit me for phrasing. Edit me for legibility. But if you can't follow the bouncing ball of the topic and concepts like 'According to studies [link]....' have you whining at me 'We can't make unfounded claims!' (lady it's not unfounded the link to the fucking study is right there I'm not going to rehash the entire medical study in copy that's supposed to be 'lighthearted' and 'easily consumed' jfc) maybe you need a different line of work.

If you're editing for content as well as grammar, you need to do the research on the topic, too.

I should've followed my instincts that this was not a worthwhile gig.

I ended up firing them as a client. Because it was clear the editor just did not know what they were doing nor were they following the guidelines set forth. Which was putting me in a terrible position.

But the outcome now is that they're not paying me for the time/effort I did put in.

I don't know which one of my many neighbors you are, but I do know that I fucking hate you. Come deal with your shitty car.

@Aria Good luck! I'm about to start on my PhD in clinical psychology myself. Hopefully the car alarm stopped enough to give you some peace!

                  Dear Douchebag Attorney,

You have a fucking J.D. I know you know what 'no records responsive to your request' means. You can get mad about it if you really want, and sure, you can send the subpoena, but just because you list a document you think we have on a piece of paper doesn't mean that we actually have it, and your list shows that you have not the first clue how this even works.

Did you do any research before you started flailing?

I am not your paralegal. Just because you don't know what a thing is called or who actually produces/maintains it does not mean that I am required to go hunt it down for you.

Also, FOIA is federal. We use different rules.

                  Fuck.

Racism isn't Tinkerbell. It doesn't need you to believe in it for it to exist.

@insomniac7809 There's two versions of the song "Living Next Door to Alice." One is normal, one features the lines "Alice? Who the fuck is Alice?" during the chorus. I had only heard the latter version, so whenever it would come on the tradition would be for the audience (this was a prime karaoke song) to shout the added lines.

Picture my surprise when I was the only one doing this for the 'normal' version of the song...

                                Learning "pods".

I know you need to go back to work. So do I. But when the state, county, and city say kids can't go to school because we're in the middle of a surge, why in the world would it be safe for me to "supervise" (babysit) your children during their Zoom classes? Not to mention the legal liability just waiting to swallow me whole. You aren't asking for a tutor, you're asking for a nanny and trying to shirk your duties as an employer by misclassifying me and all the other educators desperate for safe work.

Meanwhile, I can 100% do my job virtually with no real loss to your child. The difficulty schools faced last year had to do with time to prepare AND that they have 30+ kids in a dang class. You're one on one. This is not difficult.

There's no solution to this problem.

As some may know, my partner became a physician's assistant about 2 years ago. Recently, she moved from a rural clinic where she made peanuts and had to drive 45+ minutes every day to a pain clinic downtown, where she makes more money and has a 20 minute drive to work. But since then, her work is so erratic and poorly managed that I cannot rely on her to do anything to help me with the kids after work.

So, I now drive the kids to care / school, pick them up, cook them (and her) dinner, and take them to extra-curriculars on a daily basis, on top of the usual schedule of work, marketing, trying to make after-work meetings, last minute projects at work, and so on.

Adulting sucks and is hard, but I kind of see how or why people get divorced. If I'm not really getting any support on the necessaries of raising kids and life, what's the point?

(Also, I put her through school to become a PA after law school, so, yes, I'm a bit disgruntled about the entire thing right now, it's a peeve thread.)

Actually your post contains a very modest solution.
