SETTING IDEA UPDATE!
So, after chatting, we ARE considering Fallout...in Canada. Thoughts?
We have MORE ideas, but we don't want to give too much away from what our brain-meats her been churning out. Just seeing if people (a good number of them) A - Have interest and B - May be mentally stable to assist with Staffing needs. >.>

@rizbunz I'm on board and I'm a complete lover of the fallout verse and obsessed with the lore.
-
On the plus side, there isn't much lore about Canada in the Fallout universe.
On the minus side, there isn't much lore about Canada in the Fallout universe.
Which part of Canada are you thinking about going with? And what is your treatment of supermutants, which has been inconsistent between Interplay/Black Isle and Bethesda.
-
I don't know much about Canada but I do love Fallout.
-
I mean Canada's Really Big?
-
You could throw in some hard winter aspects to the Fallout survivalness. That could give it a Frostpunky feel.
-
For starters, we've already been thinking about a few things given the setting.
@Thenomain We like the idea of taking what we KNOW and building off it with a bit of research and original ideas. Also, we're thinking of going with Montreal. As for the muties? We're still thinking about what beasts to actually use, and maybe even come up with some new ones.
@Shincashay That's what awesome Staffers and Google-Fu is for! Also, it shouldn't much matter either way once we get the wiki running should the idea take off.
@Insomnia So is the United States, and every other Fallout is set there. Also, we don't plan on making a grid for ALL of Canada. That's just mental >.< We're focusing on one location, with the possibility of visiting other locations that are close by.
@Admiral We plan on using the elements for the setting indeed!

Fallout in Canada is still Fallout in America. #AnnexTheCanucks
That said Fallout is always good.

They said maybe focusing on Montreal. That isn't Canada, that's Quebec
-
@tragedyjones Yeah, we know. That'll be in the history blurb I assure you.
-
@wildbaboons Is that like saying Hong Kong isn't in China?
-
@rizbunz Right, my point was that up until the post I'm responding to, just Canada is pretty vague, as the regions are pretty diverse.
-
@insomnia Oh no, I totally get that! At first, we didn't want to give away the location just yet until we hammered out more ideas. Cat's outta the bag now, though! ^_^
-
@rizbunz Montreal's a bit of a wildcard. Some people like Canada, some people don't.
Too bad you didn't choose somewhere more awesome. Like where I live. But that's okay. Maybe my love of Fallout will outweigh my utter disdain for Quebec....
ETA: You'd at least have a proud history of massively corrupt leaders, which could make for a fun Overseer
-
There's at least two people on here who are intimately familiar with Toronto.
Toronto's probably a better choice, in my opinion, and not from a bias. There's greater diversity in Toronto than, let's say, Vancouver or Montreal. There are strong Indian, Greek, Caribbean, Chinese, and Russian communities in the area.
I would highly suggest taking Toronto. There's so very much to exploit as a setting.
-
Yeah, you really need to focus on how ethnically diverse the setting is, when it's going to be 200 years in the future after a nuclear war devastates the entire planet.

It would make sense actually, especially from a Vault standpoint, to have a wide range of diversity. If a small group is meant to repopulate the planet, a genetic spread is vital.
-
I don't believe the Vault-Tec program had any locations in Annexed Canada. We know from The Pitt that a place called Ronto exists. Also there are probably NOT super mutants, unless the US had a secret FEV base up that way. There WERE Power Armor troopers dispatched to Canada for peacekeeping.
Also what time period?

That isn't actually what the Vault's were for.

@rizbunz would love it if is a faithful adaption of fallout lore and in some way explores that overarching idea presented in all the games which is pretty perfect for a small playerbase
