What big eyes you have... what big teeth you have!
Not too long ago, wolves and men ran together on one certain archipelago to the Far East. Human denizens of Honshu would give wolves meat or fish offerings so that wolves would guard their travelers, and speak warnings and notifications through their howls which could be heard as far as Kyushu. Humans would corral wild boar that raided their crops as offerings for the wolves when they were getting thin. Occasionally, orphans would get adopted by wolves, and a handful of those become daimyos. Wolves and humans mingled heavily.
But during the latter half of the nineteenth century, the human population grew, and with that their cities became more developed. The spirits of those cities had their glut of worship, as so many new shrines popped up within them, bringing to these humans new ideas. They brought new messages that piqued their interest more than any howl. And as with all new and innovative things, they also brought some inconstancy. Wolves, deprived of the loyalty and stability they depended on are diminished, turned more into mad dogs than the dignified pillars of order they were born to be. Shortly after that, their culling by these new spirits became imminent. When the time came, not one moment of hesitation was made and their population declined rapidly.
Wolves officially went extinct on this archipelago in 1910. Unbeknownst to human biologists, there were still handfuls of them wandering around in the foothills of Mount Tsukuba, Mount Nyoho, and Mount Taishaku. From then on their howls could only be heard from Honshu Island, which is coincidentally where an unusually high number of missing person reports were made from 1911 through 1917. Any sightings of wolves since then were written off as urban legends, like big foot or Elvis sightings are in America. But in the dark caves of those mountains, where nobody could see, humans and wolves were more than mingling, they were interbreeding, and as wolf and man hybridized, flesh and spirit did with them, creating a magath abomination. As their union approached completion, their howls grew more vengeful. Only one generation passed since then, and in the aftermath of the Second World War, the wolf-man progeny began descending into the cities, where the plump and decadent descendants of betrayal resided...
Theme: Evolutionary Adaptation
Times change, and while it might hurt to change with them, if you've got real content within you, you will do exactly that. Times did change for your kind's ancestors and they were pushed back into the shadows decades. You are no longer your kind's ancestors. Not exactly. You have elements of them, the parts worth keeping. But you are better than your ancestors. Your kind -- in its new form -- has adapted. And you will very likely have to do it again. And again. Expect the unexpected, and revel in the fact that to the Mure (Herd), you are the unexpected. Physical displays of the spirit of adaption emerge from within you as your anatomy changes on a whim, and if humanity, those pimps, those oath-breakers, fail to keep pace with you and your kind, then the tables will be permanently turned, and they will be your cattle in every sense with a decade's time.
Mood: Rip And Tear
You are an invasive species behind enemy lines. You belong exiled in the mountains, yet here you are walking the streets of Shinjuku and Tsukiji and Roppongi. Your mere presence is offensive. The world seems to contort to stare you down and shame you. It cannot merely be appeased, either. It's claws reach out to you, yet you can elude their grasp. It tries to crush you with their fists, yet your wounds can heal faster than it can inflict them. The only way to stay where you are and stand your ground is to beat it back, and then dominate it. To deceive it with that predatory canine grin while your brethren twists its arm from behind and extorts a favor. To take what you want, against its will, in a humiliating fashion, with the implied and occasionally stated reality that you have the option to fuck their shit up. You are the descendant of an abused, betrayed species, and you remain marginalized, but you aspire to reverse those roles, and to enact cruel but just revenge.
