Back in my day....
-
I reenacted the sled down the stairs scene from Home Alone.
-
Tied a sheet around my neck and jumped off of the roof. Thought I'd give flying a try.
-
I like how this has become a confession of our acts of stupidity.
-
@doozer Me too and I have LOTS more to contribute!
-
I mean, speaking to the tide pods, how many of us heard stories growing up about the idiots killing themselves with antifreeze? Arguably that's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay dumber, and yet...
-
When I see the stupid shit kids do these days
-

Oh my god, why is complaining about this still a thing?
Because it's what our parents did about us, their parents did about them, and their parents did about them. Kids do stupid shit, and adults call that stupid shit stupid. Also their music sucks, movies aren't as good now, and nobody speaks English properly anymore.
-
Social media has completely changed the game in terms of stupid behavior. Odds are good we all did some really dumb shit, but a) not that many people knew about it and b) we weren’t being bombarded every moment of every day with what other people were doing.
-
@snackness True. I'd add that the news media becoming more enamoured with social media, thus reporting on trends as news, adds more of a "this is a problem that must be solved! Think of the children!" in the minds of adults.
-
-
It's not like there's an epidemic of 'tide pod challenge' or 'bird box challenge' stuff so much as the kids just trolling stodgy alarmist media and stories, who react by freaking out more. Folks did the same with 'may as well drink bleach' and other silly stuff like that-- joking about doing the stupid thing because present society is dumb and self-destructive memes are a way to cope. Yes, there are a couple idiots who will actually do the thing because they don't grasp nuance, but it's not a thing. It's just a meme.
I'm too old to be cool and even I know this.
-
Man. Back in my day we had it so much better. There were twice as many Germanies.
-
Hey, who remembers "rainbow parties"?
How about "butt chugging?"
Neither of those were things, of course, but you know what were?
Streaking, phonebooth stuffing, goldfish eating, panty raids, and pole sitting.
Young people do dumb shit.
-
-
@insomniac7809 At a certain point, I think teenagers were just trolling the creators of Law & Order: SVU.

pole sitting.
Thankfully that is now called homosexuality and is now legal.
-
On a more serious note, I'd be interested to see if any research had been done into the stupidity of children in other (read: not white American) cultures.
I don't know if one can quantify stupidity to work out which generation did the stupidest thing in their youth, but that'd be an interesting study to see too.
-
I worked as a 911 operator for several years, adults do A LOT MORE stupid shit than teens do. But, as said earlier, it's a generational thing to bitch about the generations that come after.
-
@2mspris For what it's worth, the post was made somewhat tongue in cheek, which I figured people would understand by the title. Apparently that was lost in translation though.
