I wasn't offended or bothered at all, if it helps, or makes a difference. I have no problems with being questioned, or having to prove myself.

@Kitty-Kat I don't know you. I've never played on any of your games, but I have heard the name of Lilith spouted on here before in less than flattering light.

For what it is worth, it takes guts to come here and do what you did. I applaud you for not only taking the time to work on yourself, but to (wo)man up and take responsibility for previous actions. Good on you! I hope the new you finds happiness in what you seek.

I don't know how y'all keep track of these names and which one belongs to which person on which game.

Lilith is as generic a moniker for female PCs as it gets. I can barely remember the names of my own alts on games I actually played on a few months ago let alone what identity someone else's names correspond to.

But really, keeping yourself anonymous on games has been an uphill battle for 30 years for anyone who does the Social Thing at all on a MU (which is most people). Ares is just trying a different approach of encouraging (but not requiring) transparency instead of whisper-campaigns of "I wonder if that's so and so from such and somewhere."

I take the opposite approach to Ghost.

I love the guy but I disagree with him on this. For sort of the reason Faraday points out. I am open with who I am. Then there's none of the whispering and wondering. If people wanna avoid me, they can avoid me. If they want me off their game for the sheer fact that I exist they can do so.

But then there's also no chance that some poor sod is gonna get discriminated against because 'Well they said something that seems like something Auspice would say so I'm gonna assume it's her and we should all treat her like shit now as a result'

@faraday Right. It's one of two approaches and I'm not saying it's wrong. Trying to promote positive social communication and a means to keep the actual bad people (abusive players, stalkers) identified is totally noble.

I will say, though, I think the beauty of my suggested anonymous approach lies in a few key points:

If you're nice and role-play fair, everyone wins
It exits you from the negative social networking game
(key) if people are unwilling to role play with you (someone who just wants to be nice and have fun!) without personal information or a resume of who you are on every game ever, then those people have effectively become the torch-bearer for everything they claim to hate about mushing. (IC/OOC blending, exclusive behavior, etc)
it takes away mean people's ability to target you as a person. They may still target your charbit, but then doing so can be tracked as a matter of off-site bullying and taken up with staff as a complaint.
