Coming Summer 2019

Yeah, you know it's a concept that works for you when you've already come up with three or four broad character concepts and the game doesn't even have a public wiki/address yet.
Um, not that I'm confessing to nerding out to that degree, mind you.
Seriously, I'm thrilled to see things like this. I've wanted to do an SG game for years, so when Paradox proposed the concept I was totally on board.
I'm really really happy other people are excited. Makes the work we're putting in worth it.

As stated,
The response has been beyond our expectations. It certainly has fanned the spark to continue working on the project diligently to meet our targets.
Thank you for your support and updates will come soon. (Not Blizzard Soon, but actual soon)

I have wanted an SG game for a long time. This is awesome to see.

@Paradox Sweet. I wasn't like, too serious, but I wanted to bring it up. Sounds great. Can't wait!

Stargate, aside from being muy sexy, is a pretty brilliant theme, especially if you limit people (at least until the playerbase grows) to the human faction.
Everyone is located in a central 'hub' by design and necessity, so people can mingle. And there are infinite adventure plots through planet/crisis-of-the-week events right through that portal that anyone can pick up and play, enough to keep them entertained even if they never touch the meta-plot.
I am so down to dope shit on this dope game.
-
And the variety of characters is surprisingly broad.
For the military types, sure, the first team was Air Force, but that doesn't mean that that a given team can't have a Marine commander, an Army medic, etc.
For the civilians, you don't need to resort to a Daniel Jackson clone. Brilliant machine learning chick just out of MIT who specializes in linguistic software? She and her tablet might work. Or your 'freelance treasure hunter' who is given a chance to avoid Federal prison in exchange for his expertise being put to use in a top secret program. Or your twitchy 'Yeah, I didn't believe in this shit, either, Until the Andes operation' spy type, who might have come across a piece of alien tech in some ruin somewhere before. With disastrous results.
Obviously, I'm just talking about Stargate as a whole. I have no idea what this particular game will find acceptable. But the setting is open to a lot of fun concepts, even with just earth folks involved.

This was exactly why I had partially built a game (Legends of the Tau'ri)... uh, longer ago than I want to think about, because what spurred me into it was that SG-1 was in its final season.
The idea was everyone could have several alts among the folks stationed at SGC, and players would be able to run PRPs ('episodes') to other worlds through the gate, taking an SG team off into that plot for a while and then having them return home when done. And staff would oversee a 'seasonal arc' a'la the show, by running 'episodes' specific to the arc, and handing out elements of the seasonal arc to PRP runners to work into their 'episodes'; at the end, you'd have the 'season finale' stuff run by staff, and then a new season would start.
It was... let's say "heavily influenced by the narrative structure of the show" and leave it at that; with benefit of hindsight, I don't know that it would've worked as well as past-me thought it would.
And then I realized that a) all of my friends were burnt out on staffing at the time, and b) I was sure as heck not going to run the place alone. So I just shut it down without finishing and mothballed it.
But I still today love the concept of a Stargate game for the way it so, so easily presents possibilities for a wide variety of PRPs. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this game turns out!

What is this going to be coded in? I'm starting to feel the best way I can participate is to help code and this would be a perfect project for it I think (I even mentioned doing a Stargate Universe based game in another thread, but it didn't get nearly this level of response).

The game is built in Ares. Which means, thankfully, we have the vast majority of the code needed for our purposes. It's also appealing, as has been brought up on MSB before, for how well it handles asynchronous play.
Right now there's only one coding project in the works and it's not anything necessary to the game's operation. It's just a pet project of my own (that I'd like to see / is a good opportunity to learn Ruby).
As of right now, most work being done is on testing what's in place, finalizing website details, and preparing story.

@Auspice Ok, thanks. I figured it was worth checking in on, just in case.

Of course! I'm happy to answer questions. Some things will have to wait for later to be revealed.
Looking at your post history, though, it looks like you're seeking a space system sort of game. Ours won't be that, but I do know @Jennkryst has expressed an interest in one. I'd play a game with one. I think there's a few IPs that'd lend well to it and I've theorized how good Evennia would be for it in the past.

I just thought I'd give a quick update for folks.
Things in SG Dev Land were a bit quiet this past week since both @Paradox and I were hella busy IRL. However, it was a busy that was accounted for and we're still on target.
I am really excited for getting to reveal this project in its entirety to everyone soon.

Super excited to see an actual Stargate Project again! Please make sure you open safe and sound for all of us.

I recall Stargate when I was a kid. Good times.

Update: 7/12/2019
We're so pleased to be able to bring a game update with a few more of those details people have been asking for either on the forums or through messages. The offers of assistance have been greatly appreciated and as we see windows for people to be able to help we'll definitely be reaching out.
Game Base and System
Stargate MUSH will be using ARES as the codebase and FS3 as the root system. This was a decision made due to several important factors including ease of start up, wonderful web portal features and a streamlined system that many players are familiar with. By and large the system is not terribly customized although we are certainly working on adding a few pieces of our own flair to things. But this ties into our game philosophy which is we are wanting to make things about the story and experiencePlots
What really drew us to the concept of Stargate was the ease of incorporating storytelling into the universe. It really is a doorway that opens up into an unknown reality that for all feasibility can be immediately shut off again allowing for multiple one-off episodes as well as the underlying meta-arcs that present a driving force to the game. With this in mind, we are aiming to incorporate the mentality to what we're doing. There will be episodic plots that are one-offs, there will be plots that are longer running and there will definitely be an over-arching model taking place.Character Roles
So what can characters do? We are approaching the game from the mindset of if you have a reason to be part of the SG then you can be. We are aiming to avoid masters of all trades however, so if that is something you are thinking about (Samantha Carters) you might want to readjust expectations just a little. Jacks of all trades are masters of none and Masters of something probably can't do it all. Stargate is about a team and in plot design and structure we're really wanting to emphasize this team design. To do this we'll be implementing a few new concepts that hopefully will help with this.As to specifics of Character Roles, this is a military operation with civilian specialists assisting. Again, one of the appeals of this universe is how out in the galaxy everyone might be needed.
Expectations
We are firm believers in expectations for everyone being out in the forefront. This is a work of love, we are really excited about this universe but even more about the extremely wide open storytelling opportunities it will give everyone, players and staff alike. Currently we are looking at some options to help streamline PrP submissions and a design element to allow for ease of access to Plot-Starters for people who would like to run missions.Stargate had elements of camp to it, seriousness and real ethical questions at times (I've rewatched the series in preparation for release) and we'd love to touch on a lot of these things. But the most important thing I'd like to express to people:
We are not intending to be everything to everyone.
Things may be light hearted. Things may get (ok, they will get) dark. But at our core we're really looking at story and answering this question:
How would we as a society handle some of the things that may be out there?
Development Schedule
Our development is on time with plans. In a few weeks the final testing of adjustments to the FS3 game system will be undertaken along with trial testing of a few design choices for plot structure in order to garner feedback. After that is completed and compiled we'll be eagerly opening the doors with the current plan of August 5th. -
Yay!

-
After some feedback, tweaks are being made where necessary.
Documentation is well underway.
I edited the die roller output to highlight 1s in red (otherwise it's still all classic FS3 incl. successes in green). If you should happen to want to make this tiny change yourself, I can share the code upon request.

Did you guys launch on time?
