I used to use Notepad++, but I gave Sublime a go and I am never going back. Sublime is amazing.

All of Evennia is coded in vim.

IMO, Sublime Text is the best text editor and Visual Studio Code is the best code editor. Both run on all major platforms and are widely supported by third party libraries and tools.
