Characters are ENTIRELY extensions of the players, whether it's sex or not.
Okay, let's test the hypothesis.
Folks, please be honest (if you want to be). When it comes to TS how much are your characters' preferences typically an extension of your own OOC ones?
I don't mean that just in the vanilla way - i.e. that they have the same sexual orientation as you do - although that can apply as well. More specifically, whatever your kinks might be, do your PCs tend to have the same ones or not?
For me personally, I use my characters to experience the kinks I cannot in real life, either because they're technically illegal or amoral, or because I just don't have a partner willing to fulfil that thing, or just no partner in general.

@magee101 Or impossible. You can't clone yourself in real life as much, but Life is one flexible Arcanum.

Okay, now we get to the important questions.
Is boning your clone incest, or masturbation? -
@Tinuviel I need this answered.

A literal clone is obvs incest. It's just like an identical twin that happens to be chronologically younger.
It's masturbation if you're, like, using Space to be in two places at once.
If we're talking, like, magical timeline duplicates... now, that's a question that gets into the teleporter paradox. If I go into a machine, Scotty vaporizes me, and then I come back together on the other side, am I still me? If yes, what if he saves the data and pops out another of me? If no, that implies either I stop existing when my component atoms are replaced--which happens every few years--or when my consciousness stops functioning--which implies I did die during my appendectomy (or, rather, he died, I started existing when the anaesthesia wore off.) Do "I", in a discrete sense, actually exist, or am I just a collection of processes that shuffle around in the same general vicinity for a few decades, and if so, isn't a second identical bundle of processes just "more" of me?
These sorts of philosophical questions of existence and identity are probably beyond the scope of a TS thread, beyond the fact that it's still pretty hot whatever the answer.

To be fair, if we're talking about clonecest in the context of TS this is usually the route that's taken. An exact copy of the person at that moment, rather than simply genetically identical.

This question reminds me of a character I sorta miss: a snarky, shapeshifter prostitute on Shang that... well, she existed for random drunken commentary.
She had what she called 'the Narcissist Special': she'd transform into a duplicate of whoever hired her, "for when you finally take that long-standing advice from multiple parties and decide to go fuck yourself."
No one ever took her up on it, yet... no one was properly offended when she suggested it, either, so... call it a draw?

Did you seriously just take a smut thread and turn it into a discourse on the problem of personal identity?
Fucking hell. Go read some Parfit and get out of here, nerd.

Is smut and sexuality not the realm of ultimate personal identity's expression?

Not in the sense of whether or not "you" as a being survive going to sleep every night, or moment to moment as the various patterns of atoms in your body shift.
Buddhism solves this problem neatly by pointing out that you don't exist at all, by the way; you're a confluence of ever-fluctuating skandhas.
Locke proposes memory. Hume supports the bundle theory similar to what @insomniac7809 was speaking of. Strawford (Jr.) says that we exist as a series of sequential beings that exist for a few seconds at most before dying and being replaced. Parfit... Parfit says personal identity isn't what matters in survival.
Parfit was weird.

ok someone bring freud into this so we can get back on track

That's the least accurate phrase ever, in almost any context.

What are you talking about? Buddhism solves all problems, because there are no problems. It's all an illusion, man.

I'm not even Buddhist, but you're failing to give a lot of credit where credit is due with regard to philosophy of mind.
To be clear, I was saying that it solves the problem of the paradox by eliminating the self, which eliminates the paradox. I am a dualist and believe in the soul, so I don't subscribe to the theory. I still can appreciate it.

@Rinel I was mostly joking, since you were being far too serious in a thread asking the hard-hitting questions like "why do we like to fuck" and "is it my penis or my character's penis."
