New Mu* Creation: Atharia
-
I am aware, I'm pretty flakey on making mu*s but I've actually been putting effort into my current idea. As in, I believe, I've been working on ideas and the likes for over a year now. Could be even longer, as I've been having health problems.
It is, very basically, a world where people are cursed to keep reliving the same life over and over again. Each time something happens in a previous life that is a big deal something changes in the new life. (hope that makes sense)/
It will be a lords and ladies type but I want to work in adventure stuff and things for those who like social and non-social stuff (like combat, scouting, exploring, etc)
I am using the Arxcode for Evennia but a child version of it that Ithir uses. I liked the changes that Ithir staff made about code, which was similar to mine.
I am still working on theme files but I would really like someone who is skilled at the coding. I've been trying but I can only fix cosmetic things, at best. I want to do things like change the website color scheme and alter the skills.
For reference on the files I have: https://atharia.vertinext.com/topics/ . This works. Codely things is happening t fix the other thing.. once I figure out how to fix the issues.
What I would like staffwise:
Someone who wants to help with theme stuff
Someone who wants to help grid build
Someone who does codely things. -

As in, there's some sort of time loop wonkiness going on and they literally relive the exact same life? Or it's the same mind/soul in different bodies, and like...fated/cursed to do the same things in their lives and face the same sorta circumstances? Or...?

Exact same life. They even die at the same age, PCs being the exception (o with more freedom on deciding when). Let me see if I can get some of the story I have written.
<not needed now>
That is the back up version. The one on the actual website has some changes to various files. But, the essence is the same.

And the noble class are actually the people who remember their past lives, which is why they are 'noble'. So, when an action is done to 'stop the repeating lives' and something changes, they remember. Whether it was good or bad.
-
I'd be interested to see if this works out. I don't have the headspace for another game, but I once had an idea similar to this (tho it was sci-fi) and a lot of people went 'ehhhhhhhhh' because they didn't like the idea of 'repeating' things on their characters. The feedback was that they'd feel like they were 'losing' (even if things were gained when some big headway were made in the story).
It might work now! This was a handful of years ago. And I'm obvs very into the concept, so I'm rooting for you.
-
AGES later. I've basically finished writing all the news files for Atharia. A few little things need tweaking or adding. Some will even be modified to read better and/or for fitting wit certain NPC things.
Atharia is still a world where people are 'cursed' to repeat the same life over and over again but each life is slightly different due to actions of a previous life.
The 'nobles' are people who remember their previous lives.
There are mythical creatures to be discovered.
Marriages are mostly political but love is considered for matches. Commoners can't marry into nobility but we've added options that basically put them as close as they can be to being noble. Same sex marriages are a thing.
Sexuality is extremely freeform. Basically, there is no 'shame' on people who decide to sleep with all the people or on people who decide to be chaste. The only people who prize virginity are Courtesans and that is only due to favors they can obtain (even then, it is more symbolically used than anything). Pregnancy prevention is flawless, so bastard children are few and far between since it is a choice by /both/ parents to create a child (as the prevention works even if just one person takes actions to prevent).
The Gods are meddlesome creatures.

Anyways, atm, I've switched to TinyMUX because I know how to somewhat code in that but I'm not set on stone in the use of TinyMUX as a code base. I'm open to discussions on others if someone is interested in coding but has a preferred system.
So, I would love it if someone was interested in helping with code stuff. I've listed a thing of 'wants', I'm pretty much on board with using codes already established where possible.
I might have missed stuff but codes desired:

~~
I'm interested in people who would like to help build the grid to but, really, I and my current theme staff can do that. It would just make life easier.
~~
I am still working on writing up policies properly. So, don't consider any of that gospel or ready. I'm /always/ open to discussing policy stuff.
~~
Side note, I'm unlikely to go with having a wiki and will probably be sticking with Googlesites. Though, I'm not completely dismissing the idea of wikis if someone can make a good pitch. I'm not fond of people having character pages with all the images and bright colors. I like things to be consistent across pages on the game website, at least lookwise.
My host has said that he is not certain how to make Ares work on his stuff so, that is off the table as an option.
~~
Message or comment here any interest in being player or helping staff side. Hopefully it won't be long until Atharia is a place. That will basically depend on code stuff.
-
@icanbeyourmuse If Ares is "off the table", maybe Pennmush in combination with Faraday's Softcode Package (FS3 2nd edition) would be an option. It comes with a lot of useful stuff, like room format, who and where commands, a skill system that you can customize, a roster, bbs and job system, an event system, etc etc.
I'm not familiar with TinyMUX coding, and unfortunately I can't really commit to another project right now. I just wanted to put the thought out there.

@carma We have a plot involving the finding of the Children of Gods as an opening plot and, for the moment, we're going to encourage exploring and/or playing the political games across kingdoms. I've been working on writing up information on the starting noble families and a couple commoner families. I 100% welcome people who want to pop on the Discord to do so. I always welcome thoughts, desires to help flesh out stuff, or just being around due to interest.
Should work (pretty sure I set it permanent): https://discord.gg/RMVTKuAh9B
-
PS. The main discord channel is pretty quiet since we've been using a staff channel for discussions so people aren't spoiled by plot plans and stuff.
-
I have been spending the past couple days setting up family details for the starting families/noble houses. Since there are a couple titled commoners, I've also made them too. I also made them all coats of arms (not happy with them but I like the chosen colors).
I also now got a map of the world. It's not perfect but it is close enough. I would probably have to fully customize to get what I want. The layout is what I want, the biomes of the land are not fully set up how I want them.
The policies have been properly written since I first posted the update. They are still subject to be changed/added to as we go along/realize we missed stuff.
~~
The code base is going to, still, be TinyMUX. I don't understand any of how to code in anything else. Even my TinyMUX code skills are limited but I can do a few things by myself. The Arxcode is lovely but I'm not nearly skilled enough to figure out how to set everything up properly.
I have a /potential/ coder but we'll see on that. At this point, I think we're just waiting on codely stuff to get done. I considered switching to Penn for the Faraday System but it still falls in my lack of knowledge for Penn stuff. Plus, for my purposes, I'm not big on the background skills thing.
-
I'm interested in if anyone has thoughts on something because I'm back and forth.
I have Baronets and Knights as a middle class position that commoners can obtain (To me it feels like commoners always miss out on big positions on L&L games so i made something exclusively for them). They are the people that are used for 'honor' battles, so to speak, for social and combat fights. Baronet being the mental/social position and knights being the, as is common, physical position.
What I'm thinking of doing is adding a position for the mentals to be separate from the socials. So that they have a special thing they can aim for to obtain. They would be on par with Knights and Baronets, awarded just the same, chosen just the same, etc.
Would that be something that interests people who like to play scholarly types? To be able to be the 'official' scholar type for a noble house with perks and benefits for being as such.
The major benefit besides the official title that Baronets and Knights get is they have a village 'given' to them as a reward for their position.
I am just curious to if a scholarly title/official position would be something that people would find an interesting aspect before I go about creating a name for the position and making the write up.
-
@icanbeyourmuse Based on what I see people playing on Arx? Yes. Scholars are popular.

You made a good point so I set up a position for the scholarly types not blanketed in the social position. I was already leaning a little in favor of the scholarly position I just wasn't certain it would be of interest to more than just me:

To update:
I believe all my theme files are written now. I will probably add a 'daily life' write up so people can incorporate typical things done each day into their RP if they want. I'm absolutely open to comments on what people feel I missed on putting in for theme files.
Still working on sorting proper plot stuff but for starts the first 'opening plot' will be trying to locate the Children of Gods'. The Children of Gods, to why they are important to find for the people, have the potential to become Gods. Think of them like Hercules, who is given X number of tasks he must complete yo ascend. The intent is so people can help the tasks assigned by the Gods to complete.
I've found a coder (woo) and we're still working out what code base to use. I'm leaving that up to my coder to decide what they would prefer. I've set up a list of things I want for code.
The grid itself shouldn't take long to do at all. I'm trying to make a decision on how large to make the grid. I don't want it to be huge but I also want to set it up so people can play in their kingdom as well as the neutral grounds.
So, hopefully, it won't be much longer before Atharia is fully playable.
-
Sorry I can only pay attention to this now.

Just to suggestion. Main area of each kingdom as a hub to homes/locations. Each location has access to TP or Univeral room. That's if its not as cool as Ares; I don't know Evennia/Arx too well, but you can launch a temp room at any point and it cleans itself up when you're done. Offering an exit to an Anything room allows folks to do a temp location that isn't a part of the big grid as they like, or some other way to get to one in code. Put Anything rooms disconnected (if using older code), and +templocation sends them to one of those, marks their current IC location so they can +return or whatever.
That said, I still like big grids, but an option for smaller locations that won't be used often or more than once is good.

My only issue with temporary rooms is it seems like people use them and it makes a grid feel unloved. Then I get annoyed because when a person invites me to a temproom it is usually for a room already built.
Though, I do kinda like your idea. Let me ponder it a bit and discuss it with my coder once code stuff is put into the more finalized stage. At the moment the Plan B is a FS3 customized on Penn, working in things I want.
I like temp rooms as a concept, I don't like it when people ignore the grid builders put the effort into trying to make creative.
-
@icanbeyourmuse I am with you, I like grid over temp rooms myself. I like a grid I can explore. I like sometimes adding hidden exits with clues in the desc to get to more things for fun. I like the rooms setting tone or mood for RP itself. Being able to jump off grid from the desolate swamp and making the temp room 'happy meadow' as a location in that swam can ruin immersion for me. Just an idea to consider, best of luck with your decision.
