Learning today that one of my best friends now is cancer free from the neck down, and the brain tumor that was nuked two years ago hasn't flared up again (state of remission or something, I don't understand the medical terms.) This guy had kidney cancer, and cancer in a leg, plus a brain tumor, and then he had another tiny brain tumor that they nuked. It's been some long years of waiting anxiously.

NHS is the best. I'm so relieved. My friend is gonna make it.

    • RE: RL Anger

This victim blaming has me frothing at the mouth. A woman should be able to dance naked drunk as a skunk down the street, shouting that she is a Godess of love, and NO MAN SHOULD SAY SHIT, TOUCH HER, COMMENT OR DO ANYTHING TO HER WHAT SO FUCKING EVER!

Apart from getting arrested for disturbing the peace, or whatever you would get arrested for doing that, maybe.

But that there are people STILL that go 'Oh, but she had it coming when she did that' is so fucking awful.. Well, shit. Having friends that have been stalked, assaulted, sexually harassed - simply doing ordinary day to day things - what the fuck? And as mentioned above, ANYONE should be able to go out, have a good time, get drunk with friends - and expect to be safe. It is not the victim that needs to be told anything, it is the attacker. Always.

We banned a customer at work (I work for a delivery company) - we no longer deliver ANY goods to this guy. I had the satisfaction of telling him this over phone cause he was groping, trying to kiss and sexually harassed one of our drivers (while constantly saying 'This isn't MeTOO, don't worry!'I told him exactly why - the woman in question chose NOT to make a police report, and that is up to her (she is tough and hasn't been that affected it appears, but still, we're not sending ANYONE to that guy again.) Told him to come pick up his fucking parcel himself and exactly what I thought about him and his actions.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see his face, a colleague gave him his parcel. Probably just as well. Fuck that guy and every other asshole like him.

@Goblin Replying to myself cause... I didn't get THAT job, but I got another! Starting on december 2nd. Two months unemployed, I got savings to see me through and it now just feels like a nice long vacation. The new job got some wonky work hours, but it's closer and it seems quite nice.

    • RE: The Work Thread

Had a call from my boss yesterday. I got 2 weeks vacation, she wanted to check if I could work alone on monday when I start again - usually we're 2, but if it's a normal day, one person can handle it (and I can get help from some others if it gets hairy, even if they don't do that normally they can go into the system and help out the basic stuff). So I said, sure, no problem. Short-staffed that day, and that is the first time I've had to be alone, so it's all good. I asked if she knew more about the fall since my contract only lasts till end of September. And she said right then 'Oh yes, we want to extend your contract till the end of the year - to start with.'

Freaking awesome. Three more months of work, and it looks hopeful for more after that. I love this job and I wanna stay there.

I knew I'd get some more money from my old job - I had vacation days left, and overtime money (which always gets paid one month after over here, don't ask why).

I thought maybe I'd get around a 1000 dollars, if I was lucky - which together with savings would've kept me comfortable till I got my next salary for the new job.

I got 3891 dollars worth, and I start a new job on december the 2nd so I will get paid again end of december.

tries not to go crazy and buy a bunch of things

Started a new job in december and it was soon quite obvious that I don't see as well as I thought I did. Age thing likely, I'm 45. Took me awhile, but finally got my glasses (through work, they paid for them!), and now I can SEE. It's such a huge difference, can't believe I didn't even realise before I began that job! Mind, that job requires me to stare at 10 monitors for 8 hours. I did however have to enlarge all writing on my own computer at home, prior to this, so you'd think the penny would've dropped...

Either or. Fucking love my glasses. I love pushing them up on my head when adressing someone else at work, I love polishing them, I love how they look on my face and most importantly, I love that I can see clearly again.

    • If You Want to Aid Ukrainian Refugees

Right now, predictions are 4-5 million refugees to come from Ukraine to Europe and other parts of the world - women and children, and those over the age of 60, as all men between 18-60 must stay in Ukraine to aid in the defense. The humanitarian crisis is something not seen since world war II in Europe. The most will come to Poland, Slovakia, Moldavia, Romania and Hungary, the neighboring countries. The whole of Europe is opening their borders unconditionally, and the EU is going to give all the aid they can to the neighboring countries of Ukraine.

But, if you want to and can help, there are always the large international aid organisations to support, for example the Red Cross, or UNHCR. They do very important work in the areas and in Ukraine.

When you've been in a bit of a slump on your character and then suddenly, WHAM, something utterly cool happens thanks to good IC friends and awesome staff and admittedly, some stubborness on my own part to keep going.

      That feeling. It's the best.

This might not fit here exactly, but better here than in the Good TV thread.

Last year in Sweden, a TV show was launched that was like something never done before: it was a 500+ hour live feed with about 20 cameras, from an area where moose wander across a river, to move to their summer pastures.

It became a HUGE hit. People loved it. They kept their TVs on all day and could check if there were any moose (or other animals, cause there were reindeer, deer, and birds and all sorts). It streamed more than 5 million hours on the streaming site of the national TV.

This year, since people are more isolated and stay more at home, they started the streaming earlier and will do 593 hours total. They call it 'slow TV'.

They also make a highlight of the day so people can catch up.
There's also accompanying talk-shows that discuss the highlights, and facts about the animals and interviews with locals and what not.

Getting invited to do something absolutely crazy - and yet logical within the context of the plot - something that might get my character killed, but it would be absolutely fine. I love it when crazy ideas get to be made reality by staff.

Additionally, speaking with someone about plot elements that encourages THEM to pitch another crazy idea! Makes me feel all warm inside.

Adding another, cause I am also right now obsessed with Korean shows, so much so that I think my co-workers are annoyed with me cause I talk about them a lot. It's all I watch apart from the other random few shows (The Witcher just came out after all, and I watch Wheel of Time.)

I watch videos on youtube that tend to be in the same ballpark:

      Cleaning extremely cluttered/dirty houses.
      Fixing up extremely overgrown yards.
      Renovating old houses.

Definitely a theme. I think I get extreme enjoyment seeing the results, the tangible results.

Also love watching reactions to music, especially music I know well. I wonder what that is, but clearly I am not alone. Might be the sense of sharing love over that good song with someone who's never heard it before. Like how sometimes you've excitedly 'forced' friends to listen to that song you just found and love.

    • RE: RL friends

My two oldest and best IRL friends I met via Mu*s. I now have another friend via one of those friends, and he is our DM for our now 5-year old Pathfinder campaign. Haven't met him that many times, but consider him one of my best buddies.

We don't meet much - we live too far apart. Nor am I the best at keeping in touch, I'm a bit of a hermit. But we try to meet a couple of times a year (except now due to the virus, we haven't for nearly 2 years). I also lived in the same town as one of them for 4 years, he even basically got me the job I had there.

None of them still Mu* however - but I can talk about it a bit now and then, since they used to do it.

@tek I actually tried some tablet weaving - it's one of those skills in SCA I figured even I could learn, but I didn't really have the patience. But it was fascinating how it works, and some people - they MUST be using magic when making them.

So many uses for those bands too. I hope you sell loads, they do look freaking awesome.
