Overheard IRL: Receptionist A: <talking about the food at a restaurant and how good the fish is>
 Receptionist B: I......think I am not Catholic.

Put a gun in those pockets. A weddin' gun "I bet you can run down that aisle fast, but I got six little friends in my pocket and they can all run faster than you."

It'd even work for your something blue.

@Auspice That reminds me of the Starcrash episode of the new MST3K run... “Release her or I’ll blast your queen.” (Texarcana accented robot) With authentic hickory-smoked barbecue flavor.

While these are all SUPER ENTERTAINING ideas, I'm getting married at City Hall. I think there may be some problems with this "wedding gun" plan, specifically the numbers of cops on site at all times.

@Aria Well, sure, if you wanna play on easy mode. Also: Congrats.

@Ghost I dunno, I think she picked the deceptive hardcore mode. IIRC, the family wanted a big church wedding and reception, hundreds of guests type wedding. So the guilt-tripping is real.

Well, yeah, but ULTRA MONSTER ENERGY DRINK HARDCORE mode involves Weddin' Guns. But, yeah, that does seem like hardcore mode.

IIRC, the family wanted a big church wedding and reception, hundreds of guests type wedding. So the guilt-tripping is real. Not quite. Hundreds of guests (probably 200-230ish if his mom's whole family came) and not exactly a church wedding (despite my mom's massive "But people are expecting <xyz formal, old-fashioned, expensive thing she isn't paying for>" guilt-trip), but close enough. And instead of doing either of those and shelling out $40K like the average traditional wedding costs in my East Coast city, I get to go "Hahaha, motherfuckers, my wedding dress was $63 including shipping." Anyone who continues saying that we should totally do this other super expensive thing we have no interest in is promptly met with wide-eyed excitement as I announce, "Wow! That's such a great idea. And an incredibly generous wedding gift! Thank you so much for doing that for us." Here is an actual, real-life picture of someone who is totally me walking away from wedding planning conversations.

The cost of a wedding is pretty much a really great down payment on a house. That's how I view it. It's why the first time I got married, it was essentially just a potluck in a park. I doubt I will ever get married again, but if I do, it'd be at most a similar thing. I don't see a one-day super expensive party to be worth it. I'm sorry to anyone who does, but I'd rather put the money towards something that I and my partner can enjoy together for years to come.

@Aria Yeah, I wasn't quite sure if it had been expectations of an actual church wedding/reception that can cost more than a down payment on a really nice house, or just something similar. I just remember you talking about it in thread awhile back and thinking that I was really glad the one time I got married, I told only my mother and we did it in the courthouse, my dress was like $40, I picked up on sale from Macy's.

@Aria Courthouse Wedding with 104 degree fever. Sickness and health on day one, we were out of there in like an hour with a couple friends and my mom and brothers who caught wind the night before. 12+ years and going strong.

@Too-Old-For-This I think we went to goodwill so my wife could wear something white under the black, and i got a dinner jacket off the rack.

@Wretched Hey, I still shop at Goodwill. There is NOTHING wrong with secondhand clothes.
