If it's for a MUSH, just make it look sorta like a flow-chart, with boxes and lines.

To be clear, your asking about creating new geography, not mapping an existing place (MU), yeah?

The intention is to remap existing geography in-so-far as it's a change up to a real world map. And while it's intended to use for a MU, I'm trying to make an image that will be used on a wiki as the world map to give a rough idea of how what is familiar has been changed & what there is to work with now.

Thank you for the feedback, everyone really.

          http://gobmush.wikidot.com/grid-map

I wish I had a pretty one that looked like a proper map, but this works very well for people. Even in the cases when the line goes like, north-by-northwest and it says N on the grid and shit.

I've previously done the inverse: written a bot that can log into a game, map out all the rooms and exits, then spit out a graphviz file which gives you the boxes and lines. It's a pain to get graphviz to produce sensible output for complex graphs like a MUSH grid though 😐

@HelloRaptor Sure! Long as they don't have to map it! 😜

You don't have to map SPACE, at least. I think. Do you? ...is something wrong with SPACE? I didn't think to look up and out. Oh god. >_>

This won't help you @2mspris, not for making a map of the US/World --

But I found this while looking for a tool to make dungeon / building maps for a d20 game.

Would it work for you to take screenshots of Google Maps, using the Terrain display mode, then use a paint program to draw boundaries, city dots and names, etc?

CC3Pro is, as noted, an amazing application. It's also ridiculous, inasmuch as it's a professional drafting tool with a bunch of map stencils and functionality glued atop it. The learning curve is more of a learning cliff. If you happen to have access to a Mac OS X box, Ortelius is a bit like CC3Pro, except actually usable: http://www.mapdiva.com/ortelius/

Alternatively, Roll20 has a great list of map-making resources: https://wiki.roll20.net/Useful_links_for_mapping

Wanted to toss a quick thank you to everyone who sent suggestions to me on this. I was able to get the maps made that I needed between google earth and some map images that I was able to edit to fit what I was needing. I appreciate the input!
