Dom/Sub imbalance on MUSHes
-
I can understand Lithium complaint, but it is one that cannot really be solved. People will always RP things they know little about and do things badly.
I played a mechanic character for years and at times I am sure a real mechanic would grins and the babble my character came up with while talking about cars, I know the basics but was quickly out of my depth if the other person in the scene keep the topic there for long.
I know anything sexual will get more charged then that but it is the same principle. Another example I am a Catholic RL, and i cringe every time I see a PC nun or priest, most are played as cliches though some players have done it in a well balanced manor. I don't think these chars should be banned by any stretch of the imagination but I also know I am not the only one that cringes.
Maybe I am being too charitable in my reading of Lithium's post to be me for the most part, hyperbole aside, she seems to be saying I hate when people do this cause they suck at it. -

If any element of the game is actually disruptive to its theme and direction then sure, intervene. If you're trying to run a sober political vampiric sphere and some players want to furry it up, come dressed up as furries and do furry things in your Elysia then yeah, you have the right to intervene.
Aka, any game Nuku played on!
That aside, I'm 100% with @lordbelh, and the last thing we need is random people dictating from their high horses, whether it's about 'proper D/s play' (whatever the living fuck that is), professional depictions, race, etc. Obvious egregiousness will be obvious, and staff can police their own theme, but beyond that I don't really give a fuck what you think of my or someone else's portrayal of something.

I'm pretty sure this is something we can all agree on. I fully take credit for the outcome here.

I play characters that as far as other folks would consider run the range from psychotocally dominating to very submissive.
I haven't had any complain about me doing it wrong because I don't structure their thoughts on "I am the submissive one" or "I am dominant in this." Normal thoughts in normal people don't usually work that way. For me if a character has a dominating personality is entirely based on how hard they are willing to fight to get what they want.
Highly driven characters might be very dominating, dragging their poor submissive partner along on something they are woefully unready for just because they want the other around. They may even make themselves feel better by belittling the other sometimes, but that doesn't mean they won't want to be held, or maybe even let the other partner tie them up during sexy times. They are just formost focused on either their needs or a goal that is bigger than the other person is in their life. Conversly others may seem submissive just because their priority is making the other happy.
If you set out from the start only thinking about how to make one person or the other dominant or submissive you're going to run into a lot of situations that just aren't going to make sense anymore and get stressed from having to act in ways that are non-intuitive.
