The stimulus checks are going out. I got mine yesterday.
So if you filed your taxes w/direct deposit this year or last, expect to see it anytime now (if you haven't already).
Woke up to this.
.....how about no, whoever the fuck you are.
What is something embarrassing from life that keeps you up at night.
Like, the more hilarious and nonsensical, the better.
When I was 20, I had gone back to a call center I'd previously worked at (got laid off from another job). So I had to sit with people to get re-trained/back up to speed.
One morning, riding the elevator up to our floor, one of my buddies from when I had worked there previous asked who I was sitting with that day for training. In my half-asleep pre-coffee stupor I said "Ryan Seacrest" and not "Ryan <hisactuallastname>"
.......to this day, I lie awake at night in existential horror at least once a month over this.
I'm honestly not sure if I'm more flabbergasted at Trump or the Vegas mayor's stunt this week.
Because, I mean, I've kind of come to expect this kind of shit from Trump. I less expect it from other politicians.
GUYS! DISCWORLD TV SHOW FAITHFUL ADAPTATION.
Hopes too high.
shouldn't get hopes high
hope meter through the roof
ETA: the fact that his daughter speaks highly of it is a really good sign

I just got into the top-ranked of the four MBA programs that I applied to -- making the interview I have at another one on Monday waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less stressful and dropping the fact that a third refused to grant me a GMAT waiver into a "Cool, you guys can withdraw my application" category of giving zero fucks.
YAY! Congrats!

That feeling when you wonder if you aren't as left-wing as you thought because you're getting shit from people for suggesting that people should be allowed to be Catholics or other Christian faiths when everyone says 'NO THEY ARE HATE GROUPS'.
o.o
Those are often the same people who were 'Wicca' as teenagers because 'Christians are mean to me!' but spent all their time sitting around being incredibly hateful towards Christians.
Christians can be hateful. It doesn't mean they all are.
(Westboro, for example, is a hate group and you can find the good Christians by the ones who speak out / work against it.)
I have to agree with @Sunny on that definition of white knighting.
Sticking up for what's right is fine. It's good. People should do it more. They're often afraid to because in their social circles they might find themselves suddenly on the outside and treated poorly.
White knighting, more often than not, is done:
A) for the wrong reasons. The 'knight' just wants that benefit ('hey I stood up for you now you need to fuck me')
B) they only speak up when it's easy ('how dare you tell her star wars is better than star trek!' while ignoring the -isms going on in another thread)
A white knight also usually picks one (or maybe a couple) person to defend...In pursuit of item A above.
P.S. The Westworld season finale was eh.
The trailers for it were so underwhelming that I keep forgetting it's actually been out and I'm sort of relieved to know I'm not missing out.

Watched the season finale of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and I could swear someone threw a cup of salty water on my face.
I liked the show enough. Loved the concept. The execution was underwhelming for me though, particularly in the musical numbers. But that's the main hook of the show, so unfortunately it wasn't as great as I was hoping it would be.
I couldn't really get through the first episode. Does it get any better? Like the episode just seemed to go on forever and the fact that they weren't singing original numbers was meh to me.
They have an episode where a deaf girl signs 'her' song.
They don't cheapen it by having her 'magically sing.' They don't cover the vocal tracks in another way. It's just the instrumental and her signing.
It is, to this point, the most moving part of a very moving first season (for me at least). (Mind, I love the song choice in that scene so that might've had something to do with it BUT STILL, it shows how much THOUGHT the writers put into this.)

finally watched it and oh god this show
Honestly, it's filling the gap that Good Place left. The feeeeeeeeeels

@RightMeow wtf is redditgifts?
It's a massive gift exchange and they do themed exchanges. It's a lot of fun. I participate sometimes when I can afford it.
I really like doing the pet ones cause I get fun things for my kitties and I get to buy stuff for other people's animals.
'Time limitations' is not just 'this is how long they have to rehearse a single song.'
If you want to understand some of what the TV process is, here's a couple books:

(These, plus having had to write a spec script in school, plus all the interviews, guest speakers, etc. are why I decided I could never, ever do it. The rapid fire turn around, demand, etc. is just so insane that I know I'd never have the stamina. Actual filming is not a week long on network TV, oh no. Oh no no no no.)
The Great had a stronger season finale than I expected. It was fun, Nicholas Hoult was a delight as always and I'm really hopeful season 2 will be just as fun.
@Auspice Nicholas Hoult took an utterly reprehensible historical character and made me like him.
He has a knack for playing assholes that you end up grudgingly liking (have you seen Skins? Because Skins.)
I think it's because like DiCaprio in Django, he knows what he's doing and embraces the fact that he's a fucking actor and not the role, so he can lean into the role and lampoon it. I mean there's pretty much glee in lines as 'I let them portray me as as a donkey fucker!'
Plus, y'know, Nicholas Hoult.
Orlo and Arkady were probably my absolute favorites tho. But there were just... god, so many little bits I loved.
"I really would like to know how you fucked that horse."
"...I made that up. You were there when I did."
Had to take my cat to the emergency vet today. Ruptured anal gland. Hopefully a one time thing and not cancerous.
I know these things happen. I know the vet will take care of her. I thankfully can afford it (provided things don't worsen).
But oh god I've been sick with worry because she's my baby.
Just a reminder that Avatar: The Last Airbender is on Netflix now and god it's such a comfort show.
same with Dragon Prince.
Hell, even more with Dragon Prince.
Same creators as Avatar, but without the limitations. It has so so much representation in it that it fills me with joy every time I watch it.
I know my cat is okay and getting better and this vet visit is just a follow up and-
I still hate sitting in the car while she's in there without me.
