@testament I was gonna respond with a silly weeping gif but I'm not gonna make light of your emotional response. It's ... well it's wonderful.

It was seriously an honor to draw your old friend, I'm so happy I captured a little piece of him. His personality resonated through every photo and I won't lie, I stressed out worried I wouldn't do him justice. If your response is anything to go by, I think I managed to do it.

Also I can totally draw him as an old retired Northener scout who's favorite past time after a mission was coming home to a big worn chair, a pot of tea, and a pile of cookies.

Or something.

When your character transitions from a leadership position to a support position (voluntarily, mind you), the reception and changes are not only peaceful but -beautiful-, and you know and truly trust all the things you were still working on as said leader will be seen through to the end.

That's one.

THEN. Then, when you get a little sadface because the beautiful sheet/recognition paragraph for your old title is no longer on your sheet, staff gives you the option for a modified one and they don't think you're stupid or childish for flailing in a corner asking for this really selfish (well I think it's selfish because I mean I just loved it so fucking much), and they very graciously give it to you.

I don't RP anymore but I had a discussion last night with a wonderful friend about RPing with people who pick up what you give them, be it word clues or emitted body language, subtle turn of phrase, even puns and references. It's beautiful when it happens and almost always leads to a memorable connection.

I really love the freedom NPCs give me, the freedom to take more risks and to do it -for- players and their stories. When a mindset finally clicks, I feel brave and empowered and eager to take people on a journey that's rewarding for everyone involved but also true to character. And right now this is mostly preemptive, I'm still only just planning things, but watching it unfold as I understand more about the NPC I'm using is a cool feeling.
