Thanks to everyone for the detailed advice. I'll look for a roster character with a decent amount of built in connections.

Getting started on Arx?
Never played there before and the concept seems interesting but also quite daunting especially since the background/lore is custom and all the houses/fealties to learn.
Anyway my main concern is in reality how much RP can I expect? As a new player I plan to use a roster character but due to the nature of the game and its stratified society it feels on first glance that RP opportunities may be few and far between especially as a new player who has no OOC relationships witb anyone on there.
So I take a social status 8 character farmer, he really has no buisness talking to any nobles or vice versa. Someone told me that each roster character comes with certain premade hooks or secrets but it seems the scope is limited and the pool of potential RP partners is shallow.
So am I missing something?

RE: Atomic's Playlist
@atomic It's been about 25-27 years actually. I can't remember exactly when it opened but I was among the first group of players, as were you. I found an old usenet post referencing the game from 1994 so it's at least 27 years old. Seeing a name I recognized next to "Dragonlance" was a real nostalgia bomb. Also I think the Kender I was referencing earlier was called "Ty". It's funny she (the player) always said her played-by was Elijah Wood then 8 years or so later he's cast as Frodo, since Kender = Hobbits, kinda.
BTW, didn't you play a character called Sherard elsewhere? I'm thinking Sanguinis Nobilis?

RE: Atomic's Playlist
@atomic I played with you on Dragonlance I think. If I remember correctly my character pretended you were his son. Do you happen to remember the name of the Kender that was always around? Really amazing RPer. Also the name of the 600 year old white-robe elf wizard? There was also the head of the red-robes who was great, a female.
