Getting started on Arx?

Never played there before and the concept seems interesting but also quite daunting especially since the background/lore is custom and all the houses/fealties to learn.
Anyway my main concern is in reality how much RP can I expect? As a new player I plan to use a roster character but due to the nature of the game and its stratified society it feels on first glance that RP opportunities may be few and far between especially as a new player who has no OOC relationships witb anyone on there.
So I take a social status 8 character farmer, he really has no buisness talking to any nobles or vice versa. Someone told me that each roster character comes with certain premade hooks or secrets but it seems the scope is limited and the pool of potential RP partners is shallow.
So am I missing something?

@curious1 Like most any place it is going to be what you make it.
RP on grid is pretty regular, even for your SR 8 farmer. There is an XP incentive for even the nobliest of nobles to RP with you for at least a couple weeks. It's a good chance to make connections and get regular RP friends.
I suggest taking a look at the "Wanted Concepts" board and see what rosters are in demand if you're concerned about getting meaningful RP out the gate.

@curious1 Arxian society is less stratified than you might think. Most of the Princes and Princesses will talk to even SR9 street scum, so don't worry on that score, and you can always join an org that deals with people across the social scale like one of the various Discipleships attached to the Faith.
Roster characters generally do come with some sort of secret, and should have premade hooks to at least one org. Both these things give you places to start. -
If you're dipping into the game for the first time and have no connections, I think the best place to start is with a character from one of the Great Houses. First, you will likely have a lot of other people you can feasibly play with: siblings; vassals; vassal Houses; etc. Second, you will likely have hooks and secrets built in that you can use to connect with others. And third, you will likely be picking up a PC that someone else had played before, which means there may be other sorts of connections to work with.
As a new player, I was sort of overwhelmed with the sheer number of things to do. This doesn't mean you have to do any of them, but you certainly can. The randomscene code gives an incentive for existing players to take their PCs and play with you. The event/calendar system shows what public events are scheduled that you may be able to join. This is on top of the above.
I have been told that being a character from a Great House can be overwhelming with the stuff that can be done, but I think it is a good place to start. Once you get a feel, you may want to move on to a smaller House in which you can dig your own niche and role, and go from there. Or, you can play a merchant, a commoner, or anyone else that strikes your fancy.

As someone who had 2 false starts before really being able to find traction on a PC in Arx here's what I'd advise:
Look for a roster that is part of an active group. Skim the concepts wanted board and the events page/logs. Is there a group that you like the style of their RP?
I think it is easier to get integrated into the game as a noble. I would advise against an unattached commoner (not part of an active commoner family or an org) unless you are willing to really be dynamic yourself and expect to have to push pretty hard once the 2 week newbie period is up and people no longer seek you out as much for RP. It isn't personal that they don't, usually, your name just doesn't shine as bright on the rs list. There are commoner families that are really dynamic, and noble families often have commoners attached to them.
The key i think esp if you are a new player is finding a group that is supportive and welcoming. Having a good "home base" can give you the breathing space to navigate a pretty complex game code wise and RP wise, and having or not having that can be quite literally a game changer.

This is, without a doubt, I think the best piece of advice for a new player to Arx. Pick a roster whose primary org(s) are active with multiple active PCs. Coming in with connections is the #1 way to stick.

Thanks to everyone for the detailed advice. I'll look for a roster character with a decent amount of built in connections.
