RE: Quinn's Playlist
@quinn Not a pilot. Logan was an Imperial agent who soured of the whole thing (years before TFA!), and then got... put in Rebel jail for defecting. And I kept on being told that, yes, there would be RP to get me out of the jail so I could keep the character active -- but I sat there for about two months real-time, and there never was. And then the game went up in flames. Assuming Sagas was the one with the roster, that is, but I seem to remember it was.
But hey, at least your scene sounds, uh, better (?) than that.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Pyrephox -- thanks for the reassurance!
@Darinelle -- totally valid point. Just looking at it from someone who's been there for, uh, five days, and thinking "How would this be more practicable to me at this very moment?" Because it still feels like the tip of an iceberg in terms of systems (as opposed to theme), and I'm thinking how that could be rectified. -
RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Re. snow: from a teaching perspective (university, granted): it can be unpredictable for us too. I teach tomorrow morning and I know I'll be missing at least a quarter of my classes, because they're still plowing the roads right now. I wish to hell they'd just cancel university when the school districts are closed, but they seem to think it's easier for college students to get to campus. Considering how many of them are commuters, the opposite is actually true.
There have been times where I have canceled class with a note to the students: I'm doing this because I know you won't be there, but we're doing online work instead. Don't tell the administration. because I get yelled at if I don't hold class, regardless of whether I have enough students there to make it worthwhile or not. And if half the class isn't there, there's no way I can run a successful class and I'm just wasting everyone's time anyway.
So from a post-secondary educational perspective, it sucks just as hard for the faculty, too. I'm definitely considering doing the tacit-online-class tomorrow, even as I'm writing this.

Re: Quinn's Playlist
Yup. Which was the thing with Logan. He was written as a manipulator, but potentially Force Sensitive (mysterious "headaches" and the like). So I applied. Come to find out he was not Force Sensitive but an Imperial Agent, much to my surprise! I went with it, but it was a shock, and not really the character I had intended to play and had been hoping to play. If I'd been more used to rosters etc., I would have just tossed him back and found another character, but I had never been on Firan, so I didn't really realize you could do that.

RE: Games that are active overnight?
Relative newbie (2 weeks) to Arx here; will second the recommendation and add the reply: "what do you want the theme/play to be like?" -- I like investigations and darkness; I'm getting that. There are people who like more lighthearted RP; I think they get that too.
I'm playing a PC heavy on mentals and socials and I haven't felt like I'm gonna get beat down outside of what the PC might deserve for his IC sharpness. Stat crunch as far as the dinosaurs walking around isn't that damning in terms of people looking to lord over you (though I play a PC who isn't easily impressed by that sort of thing anyway, haha). My PC has the combat stats of a two-week-old kitten (no, really, I rolled a -7 or something at a strength+huge wpn check at 15, just as a laugh OOC). But that's not his focus. If I were into combat types and not investigative, I could probably find what I was looking for on the roster too.
There's a fair amount of ground for flexibility in terms of where you want your RP to go, though at the moment the city is heading towards war/marshaling troops (which my PC doesn't have a damn thing to do with, but I don't really dig combat anyway, so that's fine). But I bet if you wanted a character who just chilled in Arx (the main city) while the war was going on, there would be stuff to do anyway. I know Derovai (my PC) is not going to go fighting anywhere, because he'd be toast in a second, and he ICly knows it.
That's kind of a non-answer, I know, but let us folks who are there know what you're after, and we might be able to point you to the right direction on-game! Also, it's 4 AM and I'm buzzed on caffeine, so this is a bit repetitive. Sorry!

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@cobaltasaurus When I teach, I only lecture for 20 minutes tops. I read a study once -- don't ask me to find the link -- that that's the amount of time the human brain can actively listen, process, and figure out information in a single, attentive sitting.
After 20 minutes, the students do group work, or something else active, or they read a different article. Something calling on a different part of the brain than the auditory-listening channel.
As someone who is not an auditory learner at all, though, I probably would have done this anyway without the study, too, because I take information in a lot better through reading than through listening anyway.

RE: Fortydeuce's Playlist
@cobaltasaurus If memory serves, there were two WORAs. WORA 1.0, SWOFA, WORA 2.0. I've been at the fringes since 1.0 (like, 2000).

RE: Games that are active overnight?
@kanye-qwest That wasn't the implication; it was that people could find a niche easily enough in their playstyle.

RE: PuppyBreath's Playlist
I am so far! The hot-and-cold charisma helps keep scenes punchy, I think, and I took the char because, as a detective, he has a reason to RP with just about anyone from all social classes -- a lot of mobility in the RP. I'll toss you an update or two if you're curious!

RE: Games that are active overnight?
@apos Yup, absolutely understandable, and please don't worry on that front! Just some hard numbers/specifics from a new player as far as the times, because "how fast are jobs handled" in a game which requires staff involvement for stuff like XP spends has a different tinge to it than does "I'd like this thing coded" hanging around for a bit. One is potentially a bottleneck, and the other isn't.
My one non-code job that required staff took less than a week (I think 3-4 days; will doublecheck when I'm on), and that was the PC needing something to be fleshed out by staff.
ETA: Timestamps on the non-code thing I needed staff to add to my @sheet (and it was something that required a bit of thought on their end): opened the night of 01/13, closed the night of 01/18.

Mae! Derovai here. Hello!
(I now have enough Small Wpn to maybe hit the dartboard.) -
RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
2-weeks-in thoughts:
- I'm now off @rs! I was able to get a bunch of connections in that time; hopefully that propels forward.
- I'm getting more used to the "public RP is actually public, and people will walk in without asking" vibe, but it still weirds me out a bit at times. I ask by default, even now, because that's the culture I came from. Maybe I'll be more carefree about it, but there are times when I tap out because a manageable 2- or 3-PC scene turns into a giant clusterfuck of 10+ PCs all doing their thing (my own included, so I'm just as guilty as everyone else).
- This is a big ask on the code front, but maybe @rs could be refined a bit: last week I got three PCs who I hadn't met (though only managed to scene with one: Iliana and Luis, let's still look each other up, if you're reading this!) -- but the week before that I had two PCs I literally had just gotten out of a scene with just before cron recycled. This week I have one PC my PC knows quite well, and one PC in his org. I'd probably RP with both of them anyway (though I did tell the well-known PC's player that I operate with a sense of breathing room... guess not! ) I don't think it would be practicable to code this, and it might just be my weird luck of the draw, but it's something I've noticed nonetheless.
- I got my first revelation. Yay! So I'm making progress on the @clue front. I started on two of my own theories; one I think is pretty sound, but we'll see! Sharing as it comes up IC. Thanks to @Darinelle and others for the hand-holding as I found my footing on that front.
- Helpfiles: need a rewrite. I heard it from others too. @investigate/@helpinvestigate are the ones that came up recently. I'll also note @actions and @relationships as two others that are a bit murky.
- @Family: I caught mentions of this needing to be on for all PCs, but I don't see my PC as the type to have in-play relatives (he has enough hooks as it is). Is there a way to set this up so that you can avoid in-play relatives?
- I've gotten more used to @journal, even if mine are very short and tend to be responses to others' or IC jokes, so that's no longer an issue. (Sorry, Derovai's just not an "imma share my feelings" type of guy! But I've found a way to handle it that feels sensible.)
- Considering an alt that is Derovai's complete opposite. An Archlector. How much thematic grok would I need to app that?

@bloodymurder Hey Sasha@Arx! Good to see you. It's Derovai here. We need to catch up at some point; grab me on-game whenever you get a chance.

RE: Internet Attacks? Why?
93% Socialiser
73% Explorer
27% Achiever
7% KillerAccurate. Though that one about "would you rather have a sword or be really feared?" was kind of a no-good-choice question for me.

RE: Encouraging Proactive Players
I'd like to think I'm the "high energy, really enthusiastic proactive" newbie player you mentioned, @Apos. I don't think I've had OOC conflict with the older, more-experienced-at-Arx people, but I will note that I feel like there's a whole slew of people I don't know and never see around publicly. Which is okay! But I can see myself, maybe a month or two further down the line, wondering why the PCs I never see on-grid are still never on-grid, and wondering who else to hook into. I've met a lot of the heavy-hitters, to my knowledge, but there are folks out there, in a 300+ character MUSH, that I'm simply never going to meet -- despite my PC having a push to meet everyone (and that being honestly one of the main reasons I took him).
So those private events? I've been to all of one, that I started. If there is a whole bunch of private RP going on that I don't see, then I worry about that potentially bottlenecking. Again, I'm talking out of my hat here, but just thinking this through in terms of "how to encourage interaction between the two sides."

RE: What's missing in MUSHdom?
Tribe 8 (alien horror in a post-apocalyptic Montreal)? Alternity: Star*Drive (space opera that isn't Star Wars)? Back in the day, I used to toss these around as potential ideas for a MUSH.
