    • RE: New Project?

I know Louisville, if someone wants to use that. We have the largest historic district of Victorian architecture (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Louisville) , lots of bourbon, and a bunch of buildings that had Papa John's name on them two weeks ago and now don't.

EDIT - Oh, I guess Old Louisville is also the most haunted neighborhood in the US. https://www.amazon.com/Stories-Legends-Americas-Haunted-Neighborhood/dp/1494289016

EDIT 2 - We also have Waverly Hills Sanatorium, which unlike the above book, is known nationally as a truly creepy place. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waverly_Hills_Sanatorium

On second thought, maybe I should run a horror game in Louisville considering all this creepiness.

I know of Nubia because the black gladiator that helps Maximus in 2000's Gladiator was Nubian, and I thought "Nubia is a great frickin' name for a place."

I will say that I have found it a little difficult to get involved, as things seem to be a bit behind-closed-doors. Also things move incredibly fast. If you're away from the server for a week, you will be horribly behind. This time last week, we had only just discovered and been attacked by the Grounders. In the intervening time, we have rescued those captured in the first battle, captured our own Grounders, interrogated said Grounders, released said Grounders, and are now entering into negotiations with a Grounder chief. You could have easily dragged that out over two or even three weeks. There is no rush. The server doesn't have a bomb strapped to it that's going to blow if you drop below 55 mph.

@Admiral I am fine with child characters above a certain age, like 10, as children younger than that are too hard to play correctly, and any interactions are going to be dull. At around 10 kids start being more independent, getting into more trouble, asking difficult questions, and are more capable of participating in the story. However, they shouldn't have the same stats as adults.

My original point stands. If self-centered people continue to open and run games, this hobby will eventually die. This is a pattern of behavior that I think current players should be keyed into.

Or people can just play on servers they enjoy and let others have fun on the servers they enjoy. We get it - Blue and Seraphim's games just aren't your bag. Certainly warn others of the perceived errors and problems they have, so people are aware of what they may be getting into, but let's hold off on the torches and pitchforks, especially since it's an invitation only server.

To be actually constructive for once, I am growing into the opinion that if staff want to have PCs that aren't on the bottom of thr totem pole, the game needs multiple spheres and if someone has a character in a sphere, they cannot staff it.

But I don't think Boss would lean - he's very much "We are contractors, not county employees.

While true, you present an atypical situation and he might be willing to lean more. It's one thing to demand that every contractor get access to the special county employee lot; it's another to ask for a little leeway for 1-2 people who need some consideration. Especially if you're still willing to pay the garage rate, showing that you're not trying to get out of paying for a parking space.

Hmm. If it is patrolled by the cops - I should have no issue. Big brother is one of them. I will have to look.

That's the ticket. Figure out who makes sure the people parking there are supposed to be parking there (you might get lucky and it's no one) and see if you can't work something out with them. You might get that one officer who is a strict, by-the-book asshole (me), but even they can be made to roll their eyes at the ridiculousness of the circumstances and look the other way if the situation is a one-off "why be a complete dickbag?" scenario.

Just make sure to be respectful and calmly present the situation. My willingness to bend the rules is directly proportional to how calm and respectful the person asking is.

Another thought - see if one of the county employees who can park in the lot is willing to give you their "parking spot" in the county lot and you give them the parking spot in the garage that you're paying for. That way no space in the county lot has been lost, you're still paying for a spot (again showing it's not about money but about physical circumstances), you get to park closer, and the county employee gets to burn some calories to walk a few blocks. Honestly, I would be willing to do that trade with someone. 3 blocks is nothing for me.

    • RE: PC vs Player Assumptions

When playing D&D, I platly it like a board game without the board. My character is a meeple. I want the puzzles, riddles, and dilemmas to challenge me, rather than the character. 'Roll to solve the ancient puzzle lock' would bore me.

When playing a MU*, I'm the opposite. I am in character and want the character to be able to do what the character can do, rather than what I can do. This, I lean more towards reaching out via pages or OOC and making sure that the player understand something, in case they are operating under a misunderstanding.

EDIT - Changed "player" to "character." Don't post while drunk, people. It leads to stupid errors like that.

I am not poking fun at any of it. I have played on Shang with my own odd concepts. I think Dick Cow is brilliant and should be given 1,000 acres of pasture land to graze amongst the dildoweeds, the pussy willows, and the dingleberry bushes.

    • RE: Dating in the 2020's

Funny anecdote about dating apps from today!

I get a reply message out of the blue from a woman on OKCupid today. I don't recognize the woman. I read her reply and nothing is clicking. I read my original message and, while it sounds like something I would write, I don't remember writing it. After some thinking and looking over her profile, I realized that I sent the original message sometime around December 2017 to April 2018.

I'm not sure whether to even reply or not. I'm not first choice, second choice, or even third choice. I am waaaaaaaaay down the list.
