I'm also someone who sits cross-legged on chairs, and finding ones without armrests but also had good back support was getting tricky. So my SO suggested one of these gaming chairs with the footrest (this is the one we bought). It took a little bit of getting used to, but now I love it to bits. I can slide it out and push the chair back to take a mini-nap, or slide the footrest against the cushion and use it as a 'shelf' of sorts for my feet when I sit cross-legged without having my knees banging against the armrests. My only issue with it is that sometimes I sit so far forward (especially if I am doing paperwork or art on my desk) that I accidentally tip the chair.

Raven’s “Oh crap, is it my turn to cook” pesto chicken pasta
(Also a big hit with the kids)- 2 or 3 large chicken breasts
- 500g pasta (macaroni, fussili etc)
- small bottle of pesto
- cherry / grape / baby tomatoes
- Roast chicken breasts in the oven. 30 mins at 180C
- Boil pasta, then drain
- Throw some oil in the pasta pot and turn up to high. Toss in halves baby tomatoes until they sear nicely. Turn off the heat.
- Throw pasta back into the pot. Dice chicken and throw into the pot. Empty the pesto into the pot.
- Mix, serve and have your children declare you are a cooking goddess.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@arkandel
Even in games without resurrection spells it is always odd how other people deal with death of characters.“Oh, so sorry for the horrible loss of your spouse last month…. And congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!”
Or beyond that as well… holding a grudge for someone doing something evil to you or your friends and then some how ending up the bad guy because “Sure, I tortured your partner in front of you but that was THREE MONTHS ago, sheesh.”
It just does not compute for me.

I need to know that they value me beyond just the context of the game; if we stop playing the same game, are we still friends?
This seems to happen a lot. While you are playing the same game as someone then it's talking every day or several times a week. Then you stop playing and after a month or so it can feel like everyone's just forgotten about you because they don't have mechanics or lore questions to ask anymore, or anything outside of the game that they want to talk about with you. I suppose this happens with any sort of hobby that you connect through - once that shared interest flounders people start to fade away.

RE: Favorite Youtubers?
Baumgartner Restoration - Guy restores and conserves paintings for a living. Besides being so satisfying, I've learned so much about how paintings are constructed in general as an artist. I will never use staples instead of tacks on a canvas ever again.
English Heritage - The Youtube channel of the foundation which works to preserve historical sites in the UK. Their 'Victorian Way' cooking series is THE BEST.
The British Museum - An excellent channel. Naturally, their topics can be a bit all over the place, but they are always really well done. I particularly enjoy the conversation videos because it's not taught in my ancient history studies. P.S. The videos with Assyriologist Irving Finkel are just the most exciting and hilarious videos ever. I wish he were my professor.
我们的小喜 XiaoXi's Culinary Idyll - Don't let the name fool you. While he started with cooking videos, Xiao Xi is a craftsman who does some delightful work ranging from woven baskets to hammered copper teapots.
Shi Heng Yi Online - I did gong fu and qi gong for many years before I moved, and while my lineage was not Shaolin-based, I find these FREE videos inspiring. There can be so much woo surrounding martial arts and energy work in general, and it's very rare to find someone who can speak about the theory and techniques in such a beautiful, succinct and calming way.

RE: Favorite/Most Memorable Childhood Books
@Derp I don't think so... that isn't ringing any bells. But it does look pretty cool and I'm adding it to my to-read mountain.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I still dream of making a heavily coded multi-generational game (aka Firan or Arx) based in Minoan Crete with the impending doom of the Eruption of Thera and invasion of the Mycenaeans looming. Lots of code for crafters and merchants and a huge naval trading system. Alas, I couldn’t even figure out how to get TinyMux up and running.

RE: Favorite/Most Memorable Childhood Books
I didn’t grow up in a household with lots of books. My mother had one of those 356 stories and poems books that she would read to us every night but beyond that it was mostly library books. The first one I recall blowing my mind was the Rats of Nimh. There was also a book I read while still in primary school that I don’t recall the name of. It was a high fantasy one about a warrioress who would add a thin single braid to her hair for every person she killed. It had a cover heavy with purple. For a long time I wore a thin braid in my hair to remind myself to be badass.

RE: PB 'realism'
I agree that’s very frustrating. Sometimes we just forget to watermark the work, but if it is work done for hire like for games / movies etc often the artist is required to leave their name off it as part of the contract. I think most artists assume a good faith stance that you’ve tried your best to credit. And if we happen to see our work and drop the person a note all it takes is a “sorry, I’ll add your credit. Thanks for letting me know.”

I prefer drawn art PBs rather than photographic/live ones, but I feel even worse about using someone's art without permission in a way that I strangely do not feel when using movie stills or photo editorial shots.
As an artist myself, I can say that I (and most of my artist friends) don’t mind this at all. Under one condition. Do not crop out our watermarks / web addresss / signatures. If you absolutely have to crop then put the artists name in a caption under it. You get extra bonus points if you leave a little active link to our websites too.

Because this thread was born from Arx..
Carrot will soon go the way of the banjos, mangos.. and katanas.
This is extra funny if you read Japanese because of the pun on carrot (ninjin) and warrior (bushi) which when put together like this make the same sound as Shinshi which is an old fashioned way of saying a gentleman. Doesn’t work so well in English but trust me, it’s brilliant and funny.

Super lurker here and even though I didn’t play seriously for a few years I’ve always been here watching. A friend dragged me to Arx and I don’t know if it’ll stick but I want it to so maybe there are some old friends out there.
