Oh, man, I feel you on this so much.

"OKAY SO THERE ARE THESE THINGS CALLED PLOTS, WHICH ARE LIKE -- SPECIFIC STORY ARCS? AND THERE ARE GMS THAT RUN THEM AND IT'S REALLY HARD BUT THEN THERE'S ALSO THIS THING CALLED--" forever and ever

When SWTOR came out, my friends and I actually had a guild and also a MU* for RPing it. (Because let's face it, MMO RP is kind of -- well, not nearly as great or easy or convenient.) We eventually dropped off, but it was definitely fun while it lasted.

I've explained my MU* hobby to a very small number of friends, mostly because it IS kind of difficult to get/explain. It helps when they already have experience with tabletop or something like that.

I've actually got a character in a really successful, long-term poly relationship. I'm sure it helps that the other player is one of my best friends and that neither of the characters is at all prone to jealousy. The bumps they've had in their relationship have had nothing to do with their being poly, but rather the sort of things that would still be issues if their relationship were monogamous.

No, not at this point. In general the kinds of games me and this staffing team have run and enjoyed are more focused, smaller-scale games. Put everyone in one place, particularly when starting a new game.

We'll probably visit Cybertron at some point, like how the Lost Light made its way back during the Dark Cybertron arc. (Although it won't actually be the same Dark Cybertron arc, I'm sure.)

However, there is no way in the world we are never crossing paths with Thundercracker and Buddy, because we love him too much. But, again, in the future.

I'm not going to wade into the argument of whether or not rape plots should or should not be allowed on games, or else I'll just argue forever. (FOREVER.)

But God, it just makes me remember this one player I had years ago on a game I staffed on who would clearly, like -- I swear to God, she would seek out sexual assault on plots we were staff-GMing. And it was this weird game of hahahaha no wtf we're not raping you on a plot. No. Go away. (She was a problematic player all around, this was just one wtf facet. She was just very focused on victimizing her character as much as possible in a way that made others super uncomfortable. Most of the time that was just her choice, but we didn't certainly didn't need to enable it through the staff plots.)

If discussion about actual sexual themes is still open -- I've mostly staffed games where the general attitude was "Sure, if you want, just put a warning/notice on the log in case people don't wanna read your TS." I believe pretty strongly that you can absolutely have character development -- even major development -- and real story through sex. (On one game where posting TS didn't seem to be the habit, a friend and I refrained from posting several logs of ours and were actually sad about it just because there was like this major arc in the characters' relationship, it just happened to be intertwined with a part of their sexual relationship. But best to respect game culture, so we kept our sexytimes off the logs page.)

Why can't she play him? I'm curious. It's not like he's dead.

In the canon we're currently playing in, he's literally back on Cybertron as the actual elected leader. (Or will be elected soon, based on how you consider time.) If you're not an IDW reader, there are basically a pair of sister series (More Than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise). At the start of the split, MTMTE is focused on a crew of misfits that basically get lost in space way far from Cybertron a la Voyager.

We are definitely open to pulling in characters who are canonically on Cybertron and pulling them into our space adventures if players come on and are interested and work out a way for it to make sense. But there are certain characters -- Starscream, Prowl, Bumblebee, etc. -- who are particularly important back on Cybertron that that will be harder for. And even beyond that, a staffer trying to justify that for a really major FC is different from a regular player doing it. ("Wow, good job, you totally bent your own canon just so you could play your favorite character, super ethical there.")

Plus, she's playing Rodimus, who is a really major FC already. I don't think any of us as staffers would try apping for more than one FC of that level of importance and popularity. (And we have some built-in stuff to prevent that in general -- someone grabbing two really big-time FCs at once isn't really fair to anyone.)

      Man, I miss Leonard Nimoy.

Man, I know. That one hit me hard.

One of my co-staffers is the biggest Starscream fan of all of us because she loves terrible trash characters and she's totally wistful that she can't play him in the theme we chose, but now she's gleefully NPCing him for a plot. FOR ONE BRIEF SHINING MOMENT she gets to play the king of trash.

The quintessential Starscream moment for me -- the one that I remember the most from childhood -- will always, always be from Transformers: The Movie.

      Megatron: I still function...

      Starscream: Wanna bet?

Ahahaha and then Galvatron comes back and kills him 😞 😞 😞

Yeah, they dropped his science thing entirely for IDW -- early Starscream stuff has him being more a political/military figure than anything else. Which is sad, because I always liked the idea of scientist Starscream. But I like the idea of most kinds of Starscream. (I just love Starscream.)

      Whoa hey, replies! Hi guys!

So Megatron's trial hasn't happened, no. We're set right at the start of the MTMTE timeline and have diverged into our own AU from launch. If Megatron's trial happens, it'll be way down the line, and who knows if it will. We think the best way to deal with continuing canon is to pick a point of divergence and then run with it. We'll reserve the right to take inspiration from later stuff, obviously, but we won't be beholden to it.

What we DID do is try to develop a divergence that would allow for more Cons on board. Soundwave is kind of an idealist hippie in IDW canon, and of course utterly loyal to Megatron (in EVERY canon), so what we've done is had him join the Lost Light crew with a contingent of Decepticons, partly to help with the search for the Knights of Cybetrtron to save the planet and stuff, partly to also search for Megatron, who by canon is totally AWOL/possibly dead at the moment. We wanted to allow for a greater diversity of characters to an already great crew.

And Overlord is -- well. He's the same place he was in the comics.

The Cons are definitely in a weird place, though, even before Megatron's trial. Obviously sticking Autobots and Decepticons on a ship together with a commonish cause is a recipe for a lot of tension.

As for the TS question -- no, we're pretty much of the opinion that the canon has firmly suggested Cybertronians are asexual romantics. (WIth potential for asexual aromantics, probably, but certainly plenty have romantic relationships.)

    • Transformers: Lost & Found

Transformers: Lost and Found MUX is a new Transformers roleplaying game based in the IDW canon following The Death of Optimus Prime leading into Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye.

We're currently in Alpha testing, which means that we're open for players and RP, but are still setting up all of our coded systems. We're excited to be able to include combat code from or inspired by FiranMUX, with kind permission from the game's owners.

Are you into the idea of robots going on space adventures that range from the ridiculous to the ridiculously painful? Check out our wiki at http://lostandfound.riverdark.net/wiki/ and take a look around, or connect straightaway to the game at riverdark.net: 1984!
