    • RE: Covid-19 Gallows Humor

Youtube sent me a link to various means of sculpting for miniature landscapes using toilet paper and various gel mediums, especially to simulate water.

      1. I don't do miniatures/model train landscapes/etc. and thus have no idea why this was recommended to me.
      2. I have not previously explored toilet paper related crafts, and am not hoarding it.
      3. I think youtube is fucking with us all recommending this now to random idiots.
      4. I think months from now, this is going to be super useful for all the people who are hoarding more toilet paper than they will ever need, and we can expect to see entire DIY toilet paper 'water' walled rooms become a trend.

@Wretched But do you have a custom phrase for indicating to other members of the household when it's one state or the other?

Because those get great, and if anyone doesn't have them, I strongly encourage it. If you have them, share, dammit!

This week's new addition to the household list was, "Can't watch that right now, it's googling-how-to-do-shit o'clock."

@Packrat FWIW, I do this, my husband does this, my parents do, my second cousins and their kids do. I think it's more common than you think.

I'm liking it, too. It's different, and I have to second 'the worldbuilding is pretty cool'.

Also, a small-but-not-insignificant part of me just knows the incel crowd surely has a bigger hateboner for it than The Handmaid's Tale, and that always tickles just a smidge.

@GreenFlashlight She actually has a pose like that, though the only shots of it I have are blurry and the floor is too much of a mess. (We even call it that pose.)

She sleeps on her back, back feet sticking straight up in the air with her toes curled in, front half-flopsed over to the side, usually one paw right over her nose, somehow still all sprawl.

I only wish I had a picture, but I do not.

Weaselwobble vs. Square Tissue Box: 0/2

It's that she got her head stuck in the empty box, and was so 'you fucker!' she dove after it and got her head stuck in it again, then kept backing up into things until she capsized and turtled, knocking shit over everywhere that makes me facepalm... while giggling constantly every time I see a tissue box since.

I emerged from my studio, only to have my husband ask, "What was all that noise?"

I simply held up the empty tissue box, and pointed to the cat, who was sitting next to me daintily on the floor, staring shame-faced at ground.

Me: "We need a constant go-pro with this cat."
Husband: "For posterity." <could no longer form words after that from the cackling>
Cat: <cringes and scuttles downstairs, looking over her shoulder the whole time in our direction like, 'racka-fracka-bastages'>

@L-B-Heuschkel I'd lend you my idiot poking sword on principle.

"Yeah, that it's never going to get better for me means I'm livin' on easy street!" <-- might get the point across.

I'm waiting for the first idiot to proclaim that since CNN is referring to it as 'the novel coronavirus' all the time, it must have started with a novelist.

People really are that fucking stupid, particularly when in states of stress, unrest, panic, fear, etc., and that old saying about never underestimating the ingenuity of idiots is dead fucking on. This makes what certain politicians and their lackeys lackwits say even more dangerous than it would be normally.

I had to stop watching the daily press briefing dayglow manchild's petty ranting-ramble hour a few days ago, and this was one of the big reasons for it. I'm trying to save the Xanax for the inevitable real emergencies, and I only wish I was kidding/joking about that. (Certain levels of deliberately chosen warmly embraced ignorance hit my panic button pretty hard.)

That looking for this linked -- for some reason -- to this, which I was just curious about to find the link to THIS in the sidebar.

(Less loved: totally forgetting everything I learned in link 1 by the time I read the initial post on link 3. Still totally worth having to re-read the thing I was so 'whut'-ted out of recalling I was even looking for in the first place.)

Augh, good reminder to unsub from threads.

It's something that has been going on here on MSB for some time now. As was mentioned by someone in the VASpider thread: people don't see it because they don't want to see it.

It's pointless to go into it as the mods are not interested in doing anything about it. The people doing it are deliberately going after RL triggers and have been doing so for months in one case, over a year in others, to cause maximum real harm.

It sucks to lose a hobby I've been deeply involved in since 1996, but it's become dangerous to my health to be around this crew, and it's not worth it. Just leaving the board won't put a stop to it as the whisper games and provocations have been extensive and long-term.

I don't need to be around people who find it a happy funtime game to see how many panic attacks they can inspire in a day any more, and think this is 'righteous justice' as they do so. This isn't pit behavior, it's pit behavior outside the pit, and has been focused most egregiously in threads involving wellness and emotional support to engage in attacks. This is a transparent tactic of deliberate emotional abuse: to cut people off from any forms of support for whatever issue they're dealing with, but they sincerely believe this makes them good, ethical people as they engage in it.

There's a lot more to it that makes me roll my eyes so hard it gives me eyestrain, but it's even less worth mention at this point.

All I can do at this point is shrug and vote with my feet. No, this is NOT something that happened on HorrorMU, so don't give them any side-eye; they remain awesome.

Unsubbin', so I won't see any further replies, and I'm back out. Be well, y'all.

Updated. I'm out, y'all. Once people openly admit to ongoing intentional harassment, and that doing you as much harm as possible is ethical, moral, and just, it'd be foolish to stick around, so I'm not doing that.

All logins retired. Good luck, y'all.

      bye

ETA: Echoes folks, no need to fear -- I'm still covering the hosting for y'all and will continue to until y'all are done whenever. Throwing a few bucks at DO every month isn't a big deal. (No need to panic; y'all know how to get in touch if you need to.)

@Kestrel said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:

Is it because they're being self-absorbed and making you do unchecked emotional labour without considering your current availability for it?

This. So much this. So, so much this.

There's someone that I have known for a long time that only pops up once in a while to demand counseling and emotional support while being abusive, or simply to be abusive.

They became very angry when I said I was not available for that, and tried every angle of emotional blackmail to force the issue.

But I am not a therapist. I am so not qualified to be someone's therapist. I am super extra not qualified to be someone's therapist when the time they choose to drop in to demand attention is fifteen minutes after I get off calming my own shit down to 'will survive the night' on a crisis hotline at 3am. Even when they were told this, none fucks given, I'm such a monster for not providing them support because they want it! They want it now!

There is a very special hell for these people, so help me.

@Quinn I send every empathy hug in the world. I would share my pudding and chicken soup if I could. I had an extraction that went like that, once. X-rays didn't show that the prongs curved in a certain way because of the angle of the image. I swear, by the time they were done, I was convinced they were bringing in props from Dead Ringers to try 'em. (Ladies with teeth that hate us, unite!)

@Ganymede They had to pull two of the implants last time, and hoped the bone would regenerate. It... didn't. Just filled in with gum tissue again, preventing the bone from growing. It wasn't totally unexpected the first time, since the extraction went VERY badly initially; it ripped out large pieces of bone along with the teeth.

So we figured this might be necessary... I just thought this was a 'check to see on next steps' and then schedule this if needs be, they just decided to do it then. Which is super cool of them to do -- it really is, since this is already a very long process, and this guy is fantastic -- but it was not something we were prepared for and now it's 'omfg ow ow ow' and not being to eat solid food at all for two weeks, which we kinnnnnnda try to shop for ahead of things when we know when it's comin'. The novocaine hasn't even worn off yet and the pain level is at a solid 'my eyes are tearing up' five.
