    • RE: RL Anger

      Update: I need input from a project leader, but they're off having dinner or a life or something. Why isn't everyone going about their life by my schedule? Additionally, how in the world is it that I'm Eastern Timezone, but yet I can't manage to get my schedule synced with the rest of everyone I know?

    • RE: Alternate Game Systems

      @ganymede

      What the game didn't do was help people figure out how to play. My gaming group, who loved original Changeling for instance, absolutely hated the CF card system. They attempted things specifically to fail them so they could dump cards from their hand and force a re-draw. So.

    • RE: Overriding Global Parent Room?

      @Rainbow-Bright said:

      Interesingly enough, room_parent isn't quite what I wanted and after thinking on it last night, I realized I could just toss a switch that checks to see if there is a preexisting exitformat or conformat on the room and utilize that instead.

      Nnnnhhh, no, this is horrible coding. The point of parenting rooms is that the most immediate parent will give the information that you need.

      As room_attr_defaults doesn't seem to be a config parameter, it's not going to do anything. Instead, what @Glitch and @Chime said are correct; you want to override the main room parent's @conformat by using a different parent room, or see if you're having config issues by trying: @conformat here=blah

      If that doesn't work, you have a larger problem.

      "One more question."

      Do not ever say this to someone you respect. Do not ever say this to someone you don't know. Do not ever say this.

      It is a lie. What this means is, "I have already monopolized your time and I am deflecting any guilt I have over it."

      Or your name is Columbo and you are dropping the bomb.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

      @faraday

      “You can’t please everyone” is not a replacement for discussing merits and foibles of a policy, especially not if that policy is “this is my preference”. It’s redundant; if you don’t care to have a policy outside your personal preference, then there’s nothing to discuss. There is only one person to please any of the time.

    • RE: nWoD2 (GMC) support systems?

      A "Scene" system - an init system cranked to 11

      • Start/end scenes throughout an RP session.
      • Manage temp stat buffs (blood boosts, spells, etc.) & their timeframe (scene, round, hour)
      • Pose order for when out of combat, init system for when in combat
      • Log Everything
      • Format log for your wiki of choice. With or without OOC/rolls
      • Possibly hook into other communication setups (whisper, tt, Winter Cant, etc.) for log.

      Has Kimbra been mentioned?

      Kimbra.

      Featured as the woman on "Somebody I Used To Know", and the best part of that song. And almost everything else I've heard her do.

      Possibly consider listing a term for each die, maybe in two different colors or with two different symbols. I don’t know the system yet, but for instance

      [good][good][sly]
      <sly><bonus><retreat>

      Unless there is a clear cut logic to which results will be kept when.

      But more seriously: a phone would host a lot of these things fine. As would a Raspberry Pi and similar things.

      Yeah, but it's the nerd culture of repurposing things that makes this fun.

    • RE: Sexual themes in roleplay

      I am on the fence on it, but I think it's okay if staff wants to hide things behind tags that they also believe are NSFW. It's enough of a trust issue that keeps me on the fence, but we are not afraid to call out nonsense staff decisions.

      On the other side of that fence, if swears and boobies are not okay for your wrk, you probably should be aware of the kinds of places you are going.

      It would be a thing to make a plug-in to MediaWiki to scan for an 'NSFW' category and add it to any links to that page.

      Y'all enjoy.

    • Archiving Jobs to mySQL

      Chime has archiving jobs to phpBB here: https://github.com/lashtear/jobs-archive

      But she says to me, "Theno, PHP needs to be set on fire, and I don't want that on my server anymore. You can't use my code."

      So I said, "Okay," because what can you say to someone giving you space for free? You can say: Let's do it without phpBB.

      https://github.com/thenomain/Mu--Support-Systems/blob/master/SQL Job Archives.txt

      Right now this is strictly a back-end. There is so far no way to pull the information in a familiar (i.e., +jobs) format. And yet, all your jobs can be stored here for now. If anyone wants to help with this project, I will be more than happy to fold in the additions.

      Don't forget to back up the new tables.

      "It hurts no one" is not a reason to not do something,

      More often than not, I kind of think it is.

      Okay. No new code hurts no one, so I'll stop doing it. Not setting up a game hurts no one. Not logging in, more often than not, hurts no one. Not posting on a bboard, more often than not, hurts no one. Yet these are things we do anyway.

      It doesn't take a slippery slope to see that "it hurts no one" is a horrible reason to not do something.

    • Multi-Line Regexp Input in Mux

      Someone, once, showed me a simple input that captures multiple lines using %r but also some fringe conditions that would be handy for +view et al. (ANSI, I think the problem was.) I have since forgotten it and lost my notes on it, so, what is it?

      Will pay for a solution.

      Not with money.

      @bored

      I have made the same concerns of our current board administrators, so I wholeheartedly agree. Saying that we need a gray area is the right answer for me, but also the absolutely hardest one.

      I have seen Ganymede at least offer moral guidelines as the basis for legal decisions in the past, so I don’t doubt that we will see this again.
