    • RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux

@RDC said in NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux:

Just a note to say that on NOLA 1 I played a Beast who was a black guy whose Horror was a fire-breathing metal minotaur.

I managed to write a desc nobody found particularly racist.

IMHO I remember and I agree.

Also, the scene where said Beast rode down a firehouse pole still amuses me to this very day.

Hmm. The Cleveland Hellmouth is, as already said, canonical.

So if it moved, then you have two probable options:

Evil Dayton witches moved it to Dayton, or

Good Cleveland witches closed the Cleveland Hellmouth, and Hellmouths never really go away.

(My theory is they closed the Hellmouth in 2016. Why the hell do you think the Cavs (and Monsters, heh) won?)

Cupcake already mentioned Black Nerd Comedy, which I love.

Food Wishes with Chef John, who is the Bob Ross of cooking. Good natured with a little bit of snark, self-effacing, lots of puns.

Casually Comics. Sasha talks comics, old, new, deep dives into obscure or underused characters.

Fact Fiend with Karl Smallwood. Hilarious talk about pop culture facts.

Overly Sarcastic Productions. Blue does breakdowns of different moments and times in history (he leans heavily into the Roman Empire/Italy). Red does mythology and writing tropes, and provides cartoony art for both. They are entertaining and educational.

Readus 101, with La'Ron Readus. Reviews of movies, tv shows, comics and books with wit and style. If you like Black Nerd Comedy, you might like La'Ron.

Ronald Bell, co-founder and singer of Kool and the Gang, 68

From the article: "Bell wrote and composed some of the group's biggest songs including Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie and Summer Madness..."

Thank you for the memories, and RIP.

    • RE: The basketball thread

@testament said in The basketball thread:

@arkandel In the post-game news conference, Giannis had some words regarding the need to sign that 5 year deal.

"I couldn't just leave. Coming back, I was like, 'This is my city. They trust me. They believe in me. They believe in us.' ... Obviously I wanted to get the job done. But that's my stubborn side. It's easy to go somewhere and go win a championship with somebody else. It's easy. ... I could go to a super team and just do my part and win a championship.

"But this is the hard way to do it," he continued, pounding the dais for emphasis, "and this is the way to do it, and we did it. We f---ing did it."

Not for nothing, but I feel like he just low-key threw shade at Lebron and Durant for doing it the 'easy way'.

Based on a statement from James Harden that was supposedly aimed at Giannis:

"I wish I could be 7-feet, run and just dunk, that takes no skill at all,"Harden said in video interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols. "I gotta actually learn how to play basketball and how to have skill. I’ll take that any day."

I think that Giannis' comments were aimed squarely at The Bearded One, and Lebron and Durant were just catching strays.

(Also, I admit that, as a Clevelander, I'll defend Lebron coming home and getting a title as a Cav, but I can understand the criticism.)

That was so unexpected. But it was worth it, just to hear an entire barbershop full of people yell "Paul George?!" at once.
