Welcome to the war, brother.
-
-
Yay! At least I'm not the only Team Instinct person around. It feels like it, in my neck of the woods.
-
There's been a bit of an Instinct resurgence lately where I am. Probably more than half the gyms I saw today were yellow. It was a nice change.
I have a theory that Blue, as the middle and therefore sort of the default option, picked up a lot of casuals, which helped them dominate in the early going; but numbers're starting to become less of a factor now that more players are deploying Pokemon that are out of reach of casual players' attacks, which makes the relative numbers of serious players more important than just the raw numbers.
In the long run it may even turn out to have helped out yellow to be outnumbered at the start, as that might attract people who are looking for a challenge. But perhaps that's wishful thinking.
-
@Autumn My reasons for picking Instinct were twofold:
- I liked that it was the underdog team.
- I too would rather wing things and figure I'll win BY INSTINCT than through hard work.
-
Lightning > Fire. Bring it.

@Autumn
There's tons of blue around here. But I live in Lexington, KY... so people are choosing that based on the insanity for all things University of Kentucky. Also, I caught another couple of things stronger than that Tauros. I caught a pretty strong Ryhorn (which is one of my favorites in genera), in the low-300 range; and a Tangela, which was in the high-300 range, but i haven't caught anything else since.
@Roz
Except with instinct, you get the best of both worlds. You can be valorous and courageous and badass by your own instinct, and your instinct will tell you when something is weird and mystic. -
I'm Mystic.
Because blue is my favorite color and before the game was released, all we knew was 'teams are blue, yellow, and red.' So. Blue.
-
I've been sincerely wondering if there's really anything more to it than that.

Like why the teams are the colors they are? Because the original game carts were red, blue, and yellow and the mythical bird trio (which is where the logos come from) are blue, red, and yellow.
That's all it is. But Pokemon being Pokemon being Japanese, they had to give them... like... descriptions and shit. I dunno. I went blue because blue. I didn't know any of this Mystic Valor Instinct stuff. They didn't even have it in beta. In beta you just picked a color.

The teams have "philosophies". Team Valor (red) is that you train your Pokemon hard and make them the best. Team Mystic (blue) is that Pokemon are deep and smart and there's a lot of mystery to them that we need to unfold. Team Instinct (yellow) is that you should use your instincts.
So, team yellow is stupid.
And team blue is a bunch of dumb hippies.
RED TEAM!
-
So you like red because they're Klingons? Figures.

So basically--
Valor embraces it as cock-fighting slave culture, Mystic shoots itself in the foot by pointing out that the creatures they're enslaving and using in cock-fights are actually way smarter than most people think, and Instinct isn't giving it much thought at all because lulz cock-fighting.
Man, if that isn't an analogy for the way modern society views just about any social issue, I don't know what is.
-
I chose team Instinct so that I could wear yellow in honor of the garb of the original Pokemon trainer, April O'Neil, who was able to find and train four Wartortles to protect her along with their Raticade mentor.
Or I chose yellow 'cause I like yellow. Maybe.
-
I chose Mystic because I had to pick one. Mystic was one.

Instinct: Bloodthirsty Hedonists...
I can live with that.
