Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

Oh many its fun to read this. I am looking and making my own little PCs, but if people wanna plot ( she is gonna be a Valardin), but I am wondering if its worth plotting here... seeing what I can do to develop something.
-
Wow, just logged on this morning to catch up on boards whilst at work and it seems it was busy overnight, people being thrown off bridges and such.
-
So if anyone does make a Laurent, I have a Free* rubicund sword going for them! It is not evil.
*(Rubicund sword may contain black gemstones that are apparently tied to demonic powers and is thus banned from being taken into the palace)
-
@Packrat look at you bribing people!!
-
@Deviante Bribes work.
-
-
Bribes are good. Especing in RP.
-
So I've got two questions for y'all. They're both kinda weird but they have more to do with the game's culture than its rules.
-
Do you swear IC? I want to go for a grittier tone that way but so far literally no one I've met has dropped a single F-bomb so far, and I don't want it to sound like a gimmick if I start doing it.
-
Descriptions... this sounds weird to me but folks seem care a lot about their in-game gear being described, buying perfumes (which my understanding is does nothing but add special tidbits to their descriptions), etc. So do y'all look at each other more than in other games to catch these things? Usually I describe my character's 'default' clothes - briefly - in the @desc but customize accordingly in poses per scene, is that not a thing on Arx since there are tailors, etc around making an IC living from selling clothes?
Discuss.

2 ) The assumption is, if you are not wearing tailor-made clothes, that you are wearing something non-special. So if you want to be wearing something fancy or well made or whatnot, just posing it isn't OK -- because these objects exist for a reason, silver makes the world go round. That said, I pose my PC's clothing all the time rather than going with the coded stuff. The coded stuff comes out for fancy occasions, but most the time she's wearing 'simple' clothes, so I do pose that.
1 ) My character swears. In private, or when she is very, very, very mad. It's more manners than anything else, though -- I have seen other people do it, particularly some of the saltier Lycene characters.
-
@Arkandel Go visit with Victus. He's a huge potty mouth and will make you feel better about swearing ICly.
-
@Arkandel
I have never played a game with coded clothing objects so cannot speak to that specific culture, but I would see posing clothes I did not have objects for in a game where such things existed to be roughly equivalent to posing abilities I didn't have on games with +sheets. -

@Arkandel Perrach swears often no matter who he is in the presence of.. I've said shit, piss & fuck. I'll be complete if I can work in a cunt, turd motherfucker and twat. As for looking at other players, I do at least once to see if there's anything particular about their physical appearance that may trigger him or something noticable such as injury, flaws, attire, weapon etc etc. I myself haven't acquired any gear for my guy yet, but soon hopefully.

FOUND IT. It's under the description news/help/whatever file:
"Also note that it is customary to avoid description of the character's clothing in a desc, since wearable items are obtained in game. Characters without the items are not considered nude, but simply wearing unexceptional, conventional clothing."
-
That makes sense. I think I would look at it much like you mentioned above, if someone is wearing an object that is homespun dress A and they some it was a similar homespun dress B for variety sake that shouldn't be an issue. Though I would see it as problematic if they were wearing homespun dress A and posed wearing super awesome glamorous gown.
-
If you want to see cussing, hang out around Redrain. Anze, Asger, Agnarr, Aksel, Arik...basically all the A named ones cuss. Some more than others.
-
@Arkandel 1) My character (Victus) swears a lot. He's not the only one, but he used to swear noticeably more than the other nobles. Quite a few of the commoners outdid him, though. And I'm not even sure if he's the most foul mouthed noble anymore either. The game has gotten huge.
- I don't own a single piece of itemized clothing. I usually toss in something about it in my post, about wearing something regular like. But the standard rule is as @sunny's described. The fancy eye-catching clothes and jewelry and stuff.
(Weapons and armor are different, in that if you don't have the coded pieces they don't exist)
Think of it as the equivalent of the WoD equipment bonuses. Fashion Clothing +3 etiquette, if you want that stat, needs to be on your sheet. On Arx the fancy needs to be an item.
-
I can verify Victus curses like a...well, sailor.
-
Both of my alts curse. Aureth used to curse less but over the past few weeks he has needed to say, more and more often, "My life is fucking weird."
