Shadows Over Reno

Anyone know who's running this game or... well, anything about it? Is it a reboot of Reno? I'm just pasting from an ad I saw on a bboard elseMU*.
====
Hello All!
Shadows Over Reno will be doing a soft opening on Monday November 7th starting at Noon EST. During the soft open we are allowing one PC to be made for the moment. Just so that staff isn't overwhelmed by people trying to make five or six alts at once.
CG Restrictions:
Blood Potency 5+
Primal Urge 5+
Status 3+ - This is for Covenants, etc.
Dual Covenants - We aren't supporting Dual Covenants on the game.
Mystery Cult Initiation - We don't currently have any PC Mystery Cults.We will be implementing The Pack and Secrets of the Covenants as we go along. Secrets of the Covenants will be longer to implement due to it being in rewrites continually, so we are keeping track of the merits.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.
Wendigo

@Arkandel That would be the Reno reboot, I believe. Wishing them all the luck in the world, the person who took it over is IMHO good/sane/creative/fun/practical/sensible/reasonable/etc., which is very much win.

If the people who are doing the wiki are on here, I might advise them to put some image auto-resize CSS on their wiki; their frontpage image is scrolling off on my screen.
-
@Bobotron Wow, yeah... I have to expand my window to something HUGE on a 24 inch monitor to get the full basic text window there in as well...
Edit: (going cross-eyed now) ...and the grey text on a white and white background in a script font?! What in the actual fuck? That's downright illegible. My graphic design teachers would be going on a murder spree.
-
@surreality
That's due to the image stretching; mediawiki images force the container if an image width is put in. If they put the following code on their Common.css, it'll end up forcing the image and container to resize to the screen, preventing the container from stretching.{{#css:
img {
max-width: 100%;
height: auto;
width: auto\9; /* ie8 */
}
}} -
@Bobotron It can be done with contain/etc. in the background size property as well with the css, but just... oh god. I can seriously hear the ghost of design profs past screeching in my head loudly enough I need a tylenol.

So I know the game's having staffing issues at the moment with Wendigo facing family difficulties and Leviathan dealing with school for a bit, but I've been watching the PrP situation and it looks rocky as well.
My first +event had 5 people signing up, 3 of whom showed up; the second one has 3 at the moment - the bare minimum. That's on the game's first month of life when I expected people to be at their most active and excited to put their brand new characters to work. I've been signing up for everything I'm eligible for but only one of them was actually ran (Jordanna's, who I think that's @Cobaltasaurus - thanks either way!) as the others were canceled.
So I'm wondering, does anyone have an explanation for it? Is it the stories being ran - I could try a different angle but thought to start slow as folks get to know each other. If it's not that, do people not want to participate in PrPs? Is something else the issue?
-
I haven't signed up for any PrPs other than the Hunter intro one... because I've been traveling.
It's v. possible others are in a similar boat. It's holiday and finals season in the US.
-
@Arkandel I dunno about others, but my RL has been pretty busy, enough so that I can't predict my schedule and so I haven't signed up for anything because I don't know what I can sign up for.
Also, please don't take offense, but +events/PRPs just aren't my thing. I'll do them occasionally, but they're a little side thing and not the reason I RP.
-
@Lisse24 I'm not taking offense, I'm just trying to understand so I can either adjust what I'm doing (say, run different kinds of stories, see if the issue is the EST timezone, look outside the Vampire sphere, etc) or just decide there's nothing to be done.
As for PrPs, they don't need to be the reason one RPs to have value.
-
If you're only running for Vampire, that'd be why I'd not sign up. Hunter here.
I also kind of avoid the 'open to all' stuff on multi-sphere nWoD games because I'm so used to them turning into 'who has the biggest dick' contests.
-
@Auspice Hm, so you'd only sign up for Hunter-specific +events?
What could be done to avoid the dick comparison issue on behalf of the STs?

Give the NPC bad guys the biggest dick.
-
@Coin And blacker, if CAH has taught me anything.

I don't think the STs could do much unless they're willing to call people out on the min-maxing and insisting on being able to twist things into their favor... and deal with the fallout that comes of doing so.
On FC, I dealt with so much of it. 'You cannot do what you want with those skills/powers.' 'BUT IF I DO THIS AND THAT THEN I CAN ROLL MY MASSIVE DICE POOL RIGHT?' 'No, you can't.' Player proceeds to run to another Staffer to beg them to try to get them to declare it OK.
Or the person who tries to take over the entire scene and do ALL THE THINGS and call ALL THE SHOTS and if anyone else gets even an iota of attention or Thing to Do (even if they have 9 of 10 things), they start complaining OOC about being bored / left out. (Saw this one often, tho primarily from the same person, on BitN).
I'll be honest... About 80% of why I'm on Reno is so I can run plots for people I know. So I can do my ST-ing without having to go through the headache of the types of people listed above (or worse: do all the legwork on a plot only to have someone bully me out of it so they can have it to themselves / their friends). I've all but given up on ever being able to enjoy myself in an 'open' PRP/plot scene on an nWoD game.

Since I don't know if you're joking I'll respond in my SERIOUS voice.
So I can't (always) do that, for several reasons:
-
Sometimes a scene won't even have a bad guy, just a victim or witness the characters are interrogating/interviewing, for example. However even in those one of them has been known to try and take over the scene and prove their powers are bigger than the others' powers, so I can see @Auspice's point - my problem there is I try to stay neutral when I'm running scenes, which I might have to relinquish at times in cases like these. However I hope other solutions can be proposed.
-
Reno has just opened and the NPCs I'm using aren't really that scary. The point of the current storyline is to provide context for characters to meet each other outside of bar scenes; no one is going to be saving the world and none of the NPCs are tough motherfuckers.
-
It's been brought up before that often STs don't let players be the badasses in their stories. Some of it is probably just normal MSB-level whining but I can understand the viewpoint - being belittled by NPCs isn't that much fun if it's the rule.
Also, run some goddamn scenes so I can play in them!
-
-
@Arkandel I only have a Werewolf, but I've signed up (and showed up) to every event tagged Werewolf thus far. Most of the events I see are tagged Vampire, so I'm obviously not going to show up for those.

That one I've seen before. In fact it happens pretty regularly... and it's hard to act upon. I don't want to ruin anyone's fun by paging them ("hey man, let someone else do things too?") but I suspect they might be ruining other people's fun otherwise.
Extra points if the person doing this happens to be the only 'active' person in the PrP, and if I correct them things stall because the others aren't stepping up to fill that gap but just pose scuffing their feet and not doing much of anything... so I essentially shot my own scene in the foot.

I know that feeling too! But I feel kinda guilty - especially on a small MUSH that means my buddies get to do things. The hogging issue is a lesser concern to me - the real one is if unknown people come and they're just not attentive. My nightmare is a PrP where I keep trying to throw things out there and all I get is non-committal poses every twenty minutes; as a regular player I can just bail but as the ST I'm kinda forced to stay the course until the bitter end.

I am having fun so far! Have vamps (Romeo and Richard), a wolf (Rhett), and a hunter (Hawthorne). Good times and fun people. Also attentive staff, even if rl is being horrid to them right now.

Got it fixed. I think. Thanks guys!
