        @Aria I love Volbeat, too.

It's a shame they ended their leg of their tour with Metallica a few weeks ago, because I'm going to see Metallica and A7X next week

Wait, its not a humblebrag, yet.

Eh, this'll be my fifth time seeing Metallica

        Now it's a humblebrag.

          I just saw something I can't unsee...but it's applicable to the thread:

I decided not to buy tickets to see Metallica/Volbeat because I don't like stadium shows.

But I saw Volbeat live a year or two ago and they were fantastic. Totally my favorite live performance at the time.

Right up until I saw Sabaton live, and I had to buy new pants.

              Sabaton live is amazing.
              I wanna see them again.

Saw Sabaton/Nightwish a couple years ago; so good.

@Admiral Holy fuck Sabaton are AMAZING live aren't they? I made a promise to myself to catch them every time they come to town and and 2/3 on that promise so far.

Once with Nightwish and Delain, a second time with Trivium, when they had to politely and graciously ask the crowd to stop chanting SA-BA-TON in between songs so that they could finish their set with enough time for Trivium to get all of theirs in.

They played a a bar in Houston and I was like ten feet from the stage at most. Small place, totally packed. The entire audience was explosive.

Best concert I've ever been to. I am spoiled now.

I don't know what brought this to mind... probably arguing with a DoC guy I know, but I figured this out a couple years ago, WAAAAY too long after initially reading it.

In 'To Kill a Mockingbird', we are told that Tom Robinson, a black man found guilty of a crime he was physically incapable of committing, was shot while trying to escape prison. This happens 'off camera', but I vaguely recall the family talking about how Tom HAD TO HAVE KNOWN he couldn't climb over a fence, what with the crippled arm, and all.

What I should have learned sooner is that he did not try to escape. The prison guards executed him, and gave what should have been an easily seen-through false-narrative. Hell, the whole trial is foreshadowing how nobody looks at the evidence, you just assume the story you are told is true.

That's been debated a lot. I've heard people go both ways with it. Tom killed himself in an escape attempt because he couldn't live a life in a cage. Like a mockingbird or something.

Or he was executed for 'touching a white woman'.

Both ways are pretty awful and hit you right in the feels. That's why it's my favorite book. I honestly believe it is what made me grow up to hate racism so much.

I need to see them live, caught them on a live clip and they made fun of miller beer in Russia. I was amused.

This doesn't apply to a lot of us, but some.

Your education is for you. Don't (always) suck up to your instructor.

I had to analyze a poem a few months ago for a class. I dislike poetry in general, but this one was downright bad (IMO) and I made my opinion known in what I wrote. Not only did I end up with a 100% on the assignment, my instructor thanked me for my honesty and asked if she could use my essay as an example for future classes for both my analytical approach and my honesty about the poem.

Some instructors, yes, will totally let personal bias affect grading. You can usually see them coming from a mile away. But if you are told to write based on your view of something, then damn well do so. The education is for you, not for them.

I had to write a 'professional-quality' review of a movie this week for class. I thought the movie was garbage. You better bet your ass I made it known. So what if my classmates wrote glowing reviews. Maybe they thought it was great. Maybe they're trying to suck up to the instructor. I thought it was garbage. In the end, this education is for me and me alone and I thought Insidious was utter drek as far as horror films are concerned.

It look me a /long/ time to put together why the euphemism 'polish your knob' exists. Despite my tendency to do just that while cleaning and, well, having had experience in doing the other too.
