For Firefox, there's an addon called Gif Block. It sits as a button by the bookmarks and I turn it on for this website. I'm sure there are similar add-ons for other browsers.

I am 100% on board with an end to gifs, at least from my seeing them.

I'll voice agreement. Sometimes they have made me smile, but mostly I see something new in a thread I like to only find a gif, then the next 2 to 10 times is gif replies. I'm meme'd out.

Please note I'm not on some sort of gif crusade, but I often look from my phone, or at work and having endless gifs pop up in threads slows my shit down, or makes it difficult for me to actually figure out what is going on. So I want to turn them off for myself.

Depending on your phone OS and browser, there are adblock plug-ins that you can use to simply not load images. Mind you, you don't want all images blocked, just the in-post ones--and show the alt text, I presume.

For now I've installed "Gif Blocker" by awesome.hu for Google Chrome. Remove the gif from loading, but you can hover over where it is to see that there's a link there.

Yeah I was going to agree but actually I think I'll just mute Horrorhound and that will mostly take care of the random ones that don't make sense in the thread.

So long as the default is them being on, and you have to opt to turn them off. Also, so we can still point and laugh when you ignore/can't see our brilliant links.
