Transfer of MSB tonight: 7:30 EST
-
So @Arkandel has finished setup on his machine for the transfer of MSB. To make sure everything is current, we have to bring MSB down to transfer the database. In all, I don't expect the process to take more than 30 minutes, but unforeseen circumstances being what they are, it may be longer.
How it will work:
- I bring down MSB, get a final, recent copy of the database and send it to @Arkandel.
- He loads it into his instance, we check that the data seems sound.
- I change where musoapbox.net is pointed, which usually only takes a few minutes to resolve (but can technically take up to 48 hours).
- MSB comes back up and you should all be back to posting with no noticeable difference by late this evening/tomorrow.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop them here or ping me or @Arkandel directly.

I have a question for @Arkandel:
Why are you such a boob?
-
@Coin I want so badly to come up with some clever retort about yo momma right now. But I got nothing.

Just like your mom.

Yet again I ask: Will Muxify be making the move? If not, can we get an address for the source code? I will not be in a position to do anything about this until late tomorrow.
Thanks.
-
@Thenomain I haven't tested it but I have every intention for it to move along. I'm at work now (and unlikely to do much until after tonight's test), but I've already untar'ed the muxify archive into nodebb's dir, so the relative paths should work once I tweak the apache config a little.
My guess is "yes, even if not right away", but as for the source code that's up to Glitch. I have no idea who owns what, all I can promise to do is make a reasonable effort to keep it working after the move.
Does that answer your question?
-
It does, thanks. I have tweaked a lot of my code around dumping it into Muxify, so it’s good to know that it has a future.
-
@Thenomain A quick test when @Arkandel had an older db version of msb up on his site linked to muxify just fine. Also, the code is available in that it is all front-end. If you check the source of the page, the html and linked javascript is all you need for it. And of course you can take/modify/rewrite or burn as your heart desires.

Yeah, and I thank you for that, but because I won’t be able to get to it until after the transfer, I wanted to be sure.
Thanks!

We're going to start a little early. Shutting down at 7:30pm
-
Propagation of the DNS changes might take a while for everyone to catch up. Some of you will probably still be hitting the old site during that time, which will redirect you over to the new one using a (temporary) different domain name.
Otherwise we seem to be doing okay. I apologize for some extended downtime, the data dump I had tested it with - taken only a month ago - worked fine, but the one from today didn't care to update to the newest nodebb version, and it took a few to whip it into shape.
Please let me know if anything's on fire.

Lost my ignore
-
@misadventure Hm, interesting. I'll ask @Glitch when I have some cycles about how it was implemented.
-
Yeah, me too. Ignore all gone.
-
@sunny How does the ignore function work? I'll need to figure out if it's a plugin that didn't make the transfer and where the data for it is.
-
You could ignore from the triple dot on someone's profile. Now you can't. You dasn't. P sure I remember him saying it WAS a plugin, but I could be mega wrong.
-
@arkandel For me there was a little eye beside the name that if you clicked, the person's posts showed up as a greyed out line saying they were on ignore. So you could see they posted, but not what they said.
-
Hm, it cost us a couple of minutes of downtime (nodebb is really fragile, and some of its errors neither well documented or clear) but we seem to have the ignore feature again.
Please let me know if something isn't working the way it should.
-
I don’t see it. I don’t use it, but I see only the share options and flag post options under the dots, nothing next to the name.
-
@thenomain You don't see an eyeball on the usernames' right side in every post?
