That may or may not have been me, (or maybe I was just another victim of her's). I played Arissa, Rasha's daughter. Kate pulled me up because she didn't like the way I was playing her. (She originally wrote Arissa's sheet.) I'm not sure if she was behind whichever of it was of Taleena's sons that raped Arissa to discredit her from marrying her nobleman, and Ladonna and Torianos murdered her shortly after that. I was warned by staff that I'd be banned from the game if I told anyone what had happened.
Kate eventually apologised. She was upset about the shit flung her way when the player of Arissa's aunt's posted about it to wora. Unfortunately it was one of those non-apologies where she tried to lay the blame for her actions on me, rather than owning them herself, so I refused to accept it.
Firan and its staff, the gift that keeps on giving.
-
@pondscum That's the surrounding event, yeah. And a pretty good summary of 'lol Firan' for non-Firan vets who are coming here and not quite getting it
The non-apology feels similar to this here. 'Oh I am clearing the air, but anything I actually did was a misunderstanding or accident.'
-
I never had any problems with Kate on any of the characters I interacted with her with, and one of them was her sibling, but I, like most people who played there, was quite the victim of staff cheating, abuse, etc!
-
@bored @Pondscum
I have no words for the wtf.I don't know if @wahoo was even involved in anything about this, but it doesn't matter. This level of wtf is like.
Either:
A) What @Pondscum says happened. You allowed it. You are bad.
B) What @Pondscum says didn't happen. She is lying, she's bad.... I have heard enough about Firan that I choose A.
My advice is then, for @wahoo, is... apologize wide-spread, broad-dispersal, and ... not be proud of dark moments of your past.
Firan is cancer.
-
@ixokai Yeah, I realize that people who weren't there may not really grasp it.
Ignoring the rampant staff cheating and corruption, you could basically go through the threads we have going right now on things not to do on games, how to fix them, etc, take their inverse, and use it as a manual to build Firan. Bigotry and rape as primary staples of play. Actual sexual predators on the staff.
Did we mention it was a PG-13 game and many children played on it?
-
@pondscum I wouldn't have been a wizard at the time, so I'm not sure how I could've pulled you up -- that said...
You're correct, I did help murder that character. Regarding the forgery code-- I don't know anything about that, really. As far as I'm aware, Brad was more "pushed to step down" than fired because he didn't play ball with Lisa. Or Leia. Whichever was active.
So while, yeah, I absolutely killed your character, I didn't have anything to do with the staff warning (though they do give that to everyone) or anything else after.
I'm not here to issue blanket apologies for anything that people say happened; I'm here to have a chat, a discussion, and maybe shed some light on things I can offer insight to. On this one, this was long ago and I do not doubt that I was not KIND to you after. That's on me. I should've been nicer.
-
@wahoo You're coming across as disingenuous and intellectually dishonest.
-
@sunny I accidentally clicked reply before I was done. You can believe or not, that's your choice! I've said all I can.
-
@wahoo I phrased it the way that I did because whether or not I believe you has nothing to do with anything. It doesn't matter. You are, however, coming across as someone trying actively to be deceptive and to be after an end different than the one stated in your OP. Own your shit or don't, don't make a production of owning it and then flail when people actually start talking about the shit you say you're owning.
ETA: And if you don't care how you're coming off, cool. I just personally would prefer it if somebody let me know how I was coming across if I was genuinely interested in what you claim to be interested in.
-
@utahsaint Nice to bump into you!
-
@sunny Owning your shit isn't the same as kowtowing to everything people believe.
And fair enough, if you say I'm coming off that way, I get it. Not intended, but there's not much else to do or say other than -- hey, here's what I remember. Here's what I can own to, here's what isn't fair to dump on me. That's all.
-
@wahoo No, it's not the same. It does, however, involve acknowledging fault and also -- super importantly -- that your perspective is not the only important one, and that if people are going 'yeah, I had this experience when engaging with you', dismissing them out of hand displays that you do not actually recognize the behavior that made you self-describe as infamous, that you're not actually taking any responsibility, and that the purpose of what you're about is ACTUALLY to mock the people who you screwed over while a staffer.
-
Just as a, like, completely unrelated note, the impunity of the murder itself is bullshit, considering Taleena/Firan staff sure loved to punish criminals by skewing criminal investigations way into the Guard's advantage.
-
@sunny Whoa, whoa, absolutely not - I'm not here to mock anyone. That's not happened at all.
I also haven't dismissed anyone. Someone said "hey, this was me, I had X experience, you weren't super nice" and I absolutely apologized for not being kind.
-
@deadculture Yeah, I think they did that to the murder victims, not like "surrounding people". As far as I recall, the discussion wasn't very gentle with Arissa's player, which wasn't fair or nice. I didn't do it, and I wasn't actually on wizard staff at the time, but I had the impression as much. I apologize for not stepping up and saying that's wrong, be kinder.
-
Ethical violations =/= kindness needed. You do you, though.
-
This particular ethical violation did not occur the way that rumors seem to have said it occurred. Or, if it did (I am not all knowing), I did not take part in it.
Happy to apologize & own actual stuff, but I can only do that for .. actual things that happened that way. I also can't dictate who believes what, so at some point we just handshake and let it go, I guess. Don't have to love everyone!
-
@wahoo I'm pretty sure they only did that in certain cases, sadly! I haven't heard of staff warning murder victims in any other situation.
-
@deadculture Well, that's shitty.
I know when Tia was shipped off, I had a pretty crappy "death confer" that was basically "You suck, get out, don't talk about it". I thought they did death chats with everyone.
-
@wahoo All the same, Firan brought out the worst in all of us, but I can't blame the game culture alone. We all had it in us to be shitty people to one another, so that's my take away after almost 4 years of it (blessedly) closing down.
