      It's me, bitches! The infamous Kate!!!!

      But really, I'm tired of living in weird terror of people who didn't care for me on Firan - let's clear the air. I'm probably not as evil as you think. And believe you me, I have some shitty staff stories too. Or maybe you were a pal and we've lost track of each other.

      Firan - Ladonna, Tia, Triane, Zeynasi, some Griffon old lady who was in that feuding family, I think I played a halfie at one point but have no idea what her name was, omg I can't remember anymore. AtramentumBuilder / Kate. YOU KNOW. THE INFAMOUS ONE.

      TFOS - Saiorse. I had another alt, but lord do I not recall.

      I'm super not good at remembering alts!

      UPDATE:

      Currently on Arx. Saoirse.

      So - I think at least some of these things will be up some of your alleys. I'm a writer/actor in L.A. and I've made a few things that I think you guys might enjoy.

      Classic Alice - the story of a girl who lives her life according to different books of classic literature. We had an AMAZING two year run on YouTube and are now on Amazon. 5 star reviews always loved, if you enjoy.

      Not a Plan - two idiot friends try to plan a birthday party. More sketchy, less EPIC TWO YEAR LONG run; much shorter than CA!

      The Long Dig - this one is definitely a gamer's movie. We adapted a short film from Electric Purple Studio's upcoming Aeronauts tabletop RPG. It's release date is TBD (2018, we hope), but I post lots of updates and sneak peeks to:

      patreon.com/katehackett - which is just a tip jar / place to stay in touch if you like the work I do. I also do a #FemaleFilmmakerFriday post every week here and one every month at http://youtube.com/katehackett

      So those are the things. Let me know if you dig them. Don't tell me if you hate them, I don't caaaaare. ❤

      @Derp

      It's a terrible opinion and not rooted in fact at all.

      That cell phone is likely the ONLY computer that person has access to. Which means it is how he or she applies for jobs. Which means it is how he or she can hope to elevate him or herself out of poverty.

      Begrudging people asking for money that assistance because you don't like that they've adjusted to accommodate our increasing reliance on non-cash transactions is reprehensible. It's disgusting.

      @surreality -- I admittedly don't know the square hoops, so "fair enough", perhaps, to that. But still: it's not our job to police people when they ask for help. If we can help, great, do that. The end. What they use it on and how they choose to spend the assistance given is not our business.

      IT'S DONE.

      THIS MOVIE THAT WOULD NOT FINISH IS FINISHED.

      From script to ProRes file, it took us a year and seven months, 99% of which was post production / CG creation of a monster thing. But it's done. And it looks cool. And I never want to watch it again.

      @arkandel do yourself a favour and stop after completing season 1. The next season is really poorly done-it feels like an AMC show now.

      AMC? You mean the home of prestige television like Breaking Bad, Halt & Catch Fire, Better Call Saul...

      Learning "pods".

      I know you need to go back to work. So do I. But when the state, county, and city say kids can't go to school because we're in the middle of a surge, why in the world would it be safe for me to "supervise" (babysit) your children during their Zoom classes? Not to mention the legal liability just waiting to swallow me whole. You aren't asking for a tutor, you're asking for a nanny and trying to shirk your duties as an employer by misclassifying me and all the other educators desperate for safe work.

      Meanwhile, I can 100% do my job virtually with no real loss to your child. The difficulty schools faced last year had to do with time to prepare AND that they have 30+ kids in a dang class. You're one on one. This is not difficult.

      @wahoo I think the point is that everyone making TV has the same limitations. There's nothing special about this one. Except maybe that they only did half the shows most do. That's not an excuse.

      They also had half the time. Production shut down in the middle of the shooting season so they weren’t given the back nine.

      AND IT IS A GODDAMN MUSICAL. Other shows aren’t musicals.

      Making TV is hard. Okay. If you say so.

      Oh f you.

      This conversation is no longer what is good tv and has gone so far off topic. I’m out.

      Dude, Mary Steenburgen is a flipping Oscar winner.

      I am telling you for a fact that these people are huge industry names. I work in this industry. There is no argument to be had here, it's not a debate.

      I think you're just being obstinate & ragging on a show instead of bothering to understand what goes into making it and no amount of trying to explain the limitations of the industry is going to help.

      @wahoo So you're saying that quality shouldn't be based on what is accomplished, but on what is intended?

      I am. You wanna put together a 45 minute musical in 7-10 days?

      Is it okay if it sucks since he's not a producer/choreographer/actor/etc.?

      @wahoo said in Good TV:

      @Warma-Sheen

      I don't know how to answer this. Yes. That's how this business works. In order to get things made, you hire people who are known to the industry. Most of those people are not triple threats. No one is going to hire a nobody.

      ETA: MOST people in Los Angeles aren't triple threats. TRUST.

      Yes, that is an exaggeration, obviously. But there are quite a few. Are they well known? No. But then again the only person I recognized from the show (and admittedly I don't watch a lot of TV) is Lauren Graham and Skylar Astin. And even they aren't big names. Its FOX. Which is just a step up from WB. The could have and should have done better.

      Also, their time limitations are their own fault. Maybe hire more than one choreographer if that is an issue. Again, you don't get a pass for crappy production when your job is to produce a good show.

      All the criticisms aside, I just to remind that outside of the heartsongs, I really liked the show.

      Woof, okay.

      1. It's not FOX. It's NBC. NBC is one of the Big Four. WB doesn't even exist anymore so. What.
      2. With apologies because this term is so stupid: these people are names. Jane Levy is a big name. Lauren Graham is a bigger name. Mary Steenburgen is a HUGE name. Everyone else is also a name -- they've worked before, generally in big roles and in big projects and on network. These are long-lasting working actors with recognizable faces AND track records that advertisers like.

      Also, their time limitations are their own fault. Maybe hire more than one choreographer if that is an issue. Again, you don't get a pass for crappy production when your job is to produce a good show.

      Ugh, this is so offensive and shitty-- time limitations are not their fault. That's how network television works. That's how ALL television works: it's fast. It moves really, really fast. You want 22 episodes of tv a year? It's fast.

      Glad you like the show. Sure doesn't seem like it.

      @Roz I agree, CXG did an amazing job of finding & using their cast --

      BUT

      CXG was also a CABLE show AND they had fewer episodes per season than normal broadcast (13-18 vs 22) ..and we're also comparing a single season to four, but cable vs broadcast is probably a more important apples to oranges sorta thing. Cable can get away with lesser knowns & new talent in a way broadcast can't (or won't).

      I really like both of these shows. They're very different though!
