World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings

@apu World of Darkness, 'Get your ass to Mars' by night?
Interesting. Double interesting if you take into account the 24h 40m Sol for +time, so day/night is in flux.
-
Ahaha! I wasn't even thinking about Total Recall when I made my suggestion but yes. That!
The differing day/night cycles would make it interesting, indeed. Could use it to up the danger factor by a lot, depending on how long a night is.

My core problem with WoD is the players play the monsters, but rarely monstrously. What in Mars is a threat to Werewolves, Vampires and Mages?
-
@thenomain Martians.
I mean really, have you /seen/ what J'onn J'onnz can /do/?

Could be a number of anything, if one's creative enough and willing to put some thought and time into it. Aliens is the first thing that comes to mind, but what about a disease that hits the supers, requiring them to work for a cure?

This, really. I try to play monsters, but a lot of their monstrous...ness is unsees often, because everyone else who wants to be white hats will strait up murder my character if they knew.
But then, I like playing borderline antagonists, since those spheres are never actually open.

I will some day make my Changeling game where all the characters work at some kind of Mall Of America, and many of them live there overnight.
Dibs on 'The Katanas and Trenchcoats Store'. That franchise is huge in WoD.
I got dibs on the Stripper Supply and Army Surplus.

Astral Realms has a whole Mars section. Read that. It is very cool.

Dibs on being the dude who sells all the yachts, mansions, sports cars, and cocaine.

@derp That honestly sounds like highly quirky fun.
I still harbor a secret desire to make an intentional parody-ish/campy bad TV version of reality game with modded WoD/CoD rules hybrized with stuff from It Came From the Late, Late, Late Show and insane-as-hell custom powers like 'call a stunt double' to take a hit, or 'call my agent' to request a reroll/etc. I don't think that's what @Ganymede had in mind when creating this thread at all -- pretty sure she meant serious ideas only -- but I still think that would have been highly entertaining.

So a less dirty Dudes of Legend? I'm in.
Ooooh. Hollywood by Night.
-
@derp Some day. I have a current tinkerbox and a thing I'm helping a friend with, but... it's tempting. So tempting.
I even have a local-ish 'classic TV show small college town' that actually has random street faires and seems to be composed entirely out of little brownstone shops and sidewalk cafes to abuse with a camera in mind for it, if I ever do it. It looks like 'The Vampire Diaries, Northern Edition', no lie.
CB: LOLcat? I think yes. "I can get us there quick! Let me get my invisible bike!"
-
Changeling game set in a Disney park.
-
I also want one that isn't... just... 'real world + supers'. Like, everyone makes harry potter jokes for mages, or twilight jokes about vampires, or references how they are from X, Y, or Z big city. I want nameless locales, like the city in the Matrix films, or in Underworld. Specific details don't matter. Which is sort of the ambiance I was going for with my MEGA CITY ZONE and GOTHIC VILLA and everything.
-
The Mega City design of the Matrix is a really good starting point. Like, super good.
-
Fuck it. True World of Darkness.
Humanity has fallen. Only the monsters remain. Mortals are cattle, pets and short lived revolutionaries. Vampires rule the ashes of a half scorched earth. Werewolves reclaimed the wild places. Mages flit in and out of reality. Some on purpose.
You know, Detroit By Night.
Edit: Also Taco Bell won the Franchise Wars.
-
@royal I would say hell yes, because I want a place I can PVP without an insane amount of hoops to jump through, but I also want a place where PVP makes sense, and isn't just a place for asshats to just turbo-murder newbies for no reason.
-
@royal That sounds sorta like the 'Van Helsing' Syfy series. I haven't seen much of it, but what I did see... yep, more or less that. Might be worth a look if you're thinking about trying it.

Don't forget the Facebook-Twitter War of 2073.

@surreality Well, damn. I'll try that out, thanks.
