Star Wars?

Righteous, I'll start getting some code together for it, while I'm sitting around waiting on word from the coders for my Superhero game. It'll be something fun to keep me busy while I wait on news. Most likely I'll either set it right after the Mandalorian wars or right after the end of KOTOR2 either or could be fun.

Sounds great. When does it open?

but Saga?

I would play the hell out of an Old Republic era game.
People wanna play Force Users. Period. Full stop.
The issue with most SW games that have ever been is the whole 'hurr hurr only Staff / Staff BFFs / people who pass the ridiculously high bar get to be Force Users'
no seriously just let people play Force Users.
just like Pern games had to learn that PEOPLE WANT TO RIDE DARGONS LET THEM RIDE DARGONS*I mean sure some of us will play other things too (I had an amazing pilot of a smuggling ship on an SW game back in the day and we got embroiled in the thick of a plot between light and dark side and it was kind of great), but still.
Let us be all fwooosh-fwoosh with our sabers and throw things with our brains.
and let me play my Miraluka gray I barely scratched the surface with a story with her HI @KDraygo I SEE YOU LURKING TODAY
*typo is purposeful

No lightsabers for me. I worked the political angle back in the day.
-
@auspice Yeah, by making Force users a less OOC EXCLUSIVE club, you'll probably actually have a better diversity layout in terms of character types, because there'll be less of a sense of exclusivity surrounding a concept, which makes people want the concept.

And that's the thing! My Miraluka concept isn't a saber user. But still definitely a FU.
And my pilot char obvs isn't a FU, but more a Solo or Lando type. So much SW universe shenanigans to be had an the Old Republic is the beeeeest era for it all.

I mean, I know exclusive makes people clamor but I also feel like enough of us are adults that we can all share now. Plus Old Republic had the academies and shit.
I totally wanna be a Jedi Sage. C'mon.

I worked my way up the ranks through RP and took advantage of important people being murdered.
-
Should say that Age of Alliances does have a small, separate Old Republic grid where force users are allowed and such.
-
@wildbaboons That's not actually an enticing sell. I'm not particularly interested in like -- a sub-grid of a game focused on something else? That seems silly.
-
@roz I don't disagree, but didn't want to do the place a dis-service by not mentioning it
-
I'd love to be able to help with a game like this but I've got some things going on myself. I wish you luck though and I'll def play there for sure!
-
There was a Star Wars RP splintering a while back, and I don't know all the details of the drama, but a LOT of great people disappeared.
And there is my vague comment about it.

@haven If I could buy the code base for Dawn of Defiance? Few weeks maybe a month. But I don't see that happening, so probably a lot longer. If I had the fully fleshed out codebase and just had to you know redesc and restat items, redesc/rename a few rooms and whatnot? We could easily be playing it by the end of April if I pulled the kind of all nighters I tend to for 4TMU
@wildbaboons It's a system I know quite a bit about, one I've GM'd for, and one I own all the books for. Also if I could buy/find the codebase for it? It'd be a really easy tweak to get it working.
Or I could just bug the hell out of faraday and then use his chargen system then leave force powers as just skills that anyone with the force user trait can take.

You could try to buy it? That is where I played a million years ago. Maybe you could find Ataru and ask him about it.
-
@haven I'm not going to throw out numbers here because that usually makes the price go up, but I've got a mush expenditure balance all accounted for in my finances, that's set aside every month for spending on mush projects I could easily use to buy the code so long as he's not asking crazy cash for it..
Edit: And assuming it's even for sale in the first place, there's always the chance it's not.
-
@mr-johnson it really depends on what sort of game you want. Crunch heavy or not, etc.

AresMUSH is available: https://aresmush.com/
I haven't tooled around in the backend much, but I know a lot about it. I don't have the free time to Staff anywhere right now, tho. But I'd suggest hopping on the forum http://forum.aresmush.com/ if you're looking at using it for a game since faraday is active there.I also know @Fantom has a SW codebase around, but I forget which one. But it needed a lot of work, IIRC, codewise. That'd probably be the big issue, regardless (for non-Ares).

@auspice I have the coding expertise of a toddler. What I can do is read a cheatsheet and do loads of mindnumming busywork without losing my mind. I'm great at transfering stuff descing rooms building grids and the like. :"p

Ares is meant to be an out-of-the-box and intended to be like that, more-or-less. Just input data for the stuff you need, etc... You could probably adapt the extant FS3 system for SW, but I'm sure people who want crunch and stuff like SAGA or whatnot would fuss.
It's just if you want one of the existing DBs... yeah you're gonna have to hunt people down and get a coder.
