Mage: The Ascension

Re: Mage: the Ascension Online
Hi, it's been a year since I created Mage: The Ascension Online, and I'm still coding away. I just popped in to see if anyone would like to volunteer for some serious play testing & world bulding. If you have the time the game also depends a great deal on storytellers. This isn't a job that pays, but I can still offer a one time payment of $50 for your support. The game is very feature rich, and we are doing things no other MUD has done.

Can you elaborate on that?

The game has graphics. When you look at anything in the game you see a picture as well as text, Combat doesn't fly by automatically. It has a turn based combat system that follows the rules set in the original RPG. The magic system also duplicates the effects of the spheres in Mage. You can also build your character through a web interface that makes it very easy to create the complex mage characters.

The "cgen through web on connect" is a plus to improvement in MU world. I like the ability to visually see the sheet but I have a few questions.
Is it new player friendly? Walk us through the new player process. Normally questions arise during the cgen process, does a player have to create a name to enter the game, then step back to alter the stats on their character? Is it possible to edit the character sheet in the game it's self?
What milestones have been accomplished for this game meaning what features does it have currently to make it appealing over other the other hundreds of WoD games out there. I am interested cause I'm starting to really like Evannia and I'd like to see it used more often in different settings.

The online chargen with a nice, clean form format is fucking awesome. I love that alone and you or whoever did that deserve major props.

That does sound interesting. I'll need to look at it - is it a roleplaying MUD? How central is the roleplaying element compared to the other stuff?
-
But is the TS coded? Asking for a CoE friend.
-
@haven Wouldn't that be like trying to have phone sex with Siri?
Siri, are you getting hot?
"Let's talk about you Shincashay, not me."

To be clear the game is not finished for players and I'm not certain about certain questions. My hope is that players will be role playing, and storytellers will lead fun scenes. I have coded a storyteller system that alerts me when people talk to NPCs or enter combat, then it is simple to puppet the npc. Obviously this would be hard without enough storytellers or too many players.
-
I've uploaded an outline of what the game should be here:
http://www.streetwitch.com/static/Mage_Story.txtLet me know if it is enough to get started.
-
Cool.
I'm feelin an Under the Dome type inspiration.
-
@streetwitch As a mild disclaimer - most of the users on this forum are probably used to roleplay-heavy environments, which typically entails more than puppeting an already present NPC in case a PC talks to them.
Some miscommunication is certainly possible here, which is why you may not be certain about the questions you're getting asked, but if you don't let that discourage you then you can find players and storytellers around these parts.

@streetwitch Can you please clarify what Scry does in practical terms?
If you can take a glimpse at a room (basically a remote 'look' command) that's pretty much fine, else I'd be worrying about OOC privacy.
Your game seems to be developing nicely, keep us up to date!

I mean, I guess if all it shows is IC poses, it wouldn't be a matter of OOC privacy?
Still kinda sketchy, but not so much if everyone going into the game is aware that that is a possibility, I guess.
-
@coin I mean it is a Mage game, Spying and magical scrying is pretty standard in a Mage kit for a variety of reasons. If all it is showing is IC stuff then that's perfectly acceptable use for the function of the spell
-
In this setting it should. +Scry could send you the pose of the current location you're attempting to view. Or something along those lines. Depends on how it's used. There could be rooms set that don't allow scrying.
-
There should be anti-scry code too, cuz, wards are a thing.
-
All good ideas! Is anyone up to actually working with me on them? XD

@streetwitch Someday when I have extra time I'm going to start learning python so I can do this ... :x
