I'm leaning into a character. I'm debating between joining an established House, or picking up Zanetti as weapon manufacturers (cannon, swords, gunpowder, etc) provided they're in theme.
But the A sisters also seem hella fun. Torn!

I have a hankering for re-making the Turtle, with 27% more bitterness.
There is a distinct lack of turtles despite the rich theme on them. I think we all have a hankering for a turtle, especially a more bitter one.

The A sisters are a thing for sure, hella or scary fun, not sure yet but ...
Its hit or miss on cannon and gunpowder - smaller canons are starting to see use, the first major battle they are noted for their use is about a decade or two out. Firearms (shoulder canons
) will be recorded in Russia soon against an upcoming mongol invasion in a few decades.Weapons are good, I'd like to preserve the Merc companies and their generic history - they get all war art/strategy and keep using heavy cavalry while other nations over the next century develop firearms until the Condottieri are so old school, the horses fall pray to halberds and muskets. While not accurate to the time so much, the battle in Borgias where they're stunned by cannons in 1495 is sort of a nod to this (they all know about cannons, some of the Visconti of Milan write about them in mid 14th-century and their effectiveness on a battlefield).
That said, what could be a good RP hook/concept is that the family is starting to research this gunpowder stuff like so many others to go from canon to firearm and such. The other nobles might not like the occasional explosions from House Zanetti, but they'll have to just get over it by the Paragons.

I'm excited to report that a) Lucrezia is in the final room of chargen (I think this is a speed record for me) and b) I got to talk with the one other existing member of House Ganza last night, Matilde, and she is on board with my ideas for the House.
So Valorous' Dominion's own Addams Family/Lovecraft flavored House is go! Tonight after work I'm going to finish the family crest.Oh and finish chargen I guess
ETA: Oh and the place is starting to jump. I'm seeing fairly regular numbers of 20+, and people are mainly active and on grid from what I see. Also still very friendly and nice OOC vibe.

Got tugged here by some friends and got a character through CG easily enough! Not familiar with the system, but it wasn't at all difficult to parse. Staff has been helpful and responsive, folks seem generally friendly. I've just had a few scenes with the family I came in with. There's clearly been a lot of thought and development that's gone into the setting and system stuff (as evidenced by the other VD thread about its development).
The wiki is pretty painful, alas, both stylistically and functionally. And some helpfiles are missing for commands that are part of their newer system developments. But it's mostly the wiki that makes me sad. (It's not a Mediawiki vs Wikidot thing, just for the record! I don't love Wikidot, but there are many solid game wikis utilizing it.)
It won't stop me playing, though! (It may make me more loathe to post logs, admittedly.) Still having fun for the time being.

Yeah, the wiki is atrocious. Which is a shame, since there's obviously a lot of love and effort poured into the game and setting. Its one of the more interesting game concepts I've seen in a while, and is on its way of luring me back into some rp.
For example the theme files really shouldn't be buried, but given their own tab up where its easy to see and find.

The wiki is a hard thing to get past on a game like this too, which is a shame, because as it's an original world the detail needs to be accessible to get into the theme and really feel a part of the world, at least for me, I have so many questions that make it hard to fit into the character I am thinking of making.

@shincashay That would definitely be allowed, I need to still get into css again and fix links and such to be legible for some people, organization help would be good.
I know I have history scattered in a few areas, I don't want to overwhelm someone casually reading but clearly it needs help. We could put up a dirty history page with the ~150 points scattered around too but that could make it worse?

I would suggest seeing if one of the Wikidot mavens might make you some nicer templates for things like logs and character pages and house pages. Nothing fancy, just cleaner layouts that are easier to read and more informative. Probably as easy as then just lifting some of their own code. Better to try doing that now before you have too many existing pages to convert. There are several game wikidots around that are clean and accessible.

@lotherio If I might suggest: a "suggested reading" section on the front page. Link it to the most important 4-6 pages, including your chargen help page, a historical overview, and pages on the most important cultural phenomena.

@seraphim73 Suggested reading is good we'll get a few more front page links.
Anyone offering a template please use wikidots active/dynamic template not just fancy include. Down the road we can use template info to organise and sort player lists. Like the info on families page, we can sort and organize by things like political affiliation if we want, we can't pull include info into indexes like that.

We'll make a wiki Chan to discuss the new/offered templates and changes. I don't want a realms repeat where folks remain silent on a change then I get dozens of pages saying they liked the old one.

If some changes are going to be made, can someone please make it a bit wider? I have an ultrawide monitor and while I only use my browser on half the screen, it's still incredibly narrow and I think it could help with adding more dropdown menus up top as well.
