@secretfire I don't see an issue with this at all. The base story when we open will be about some survivalists coming across needy vault dwellers, and setting up a settlement. The idea of expansion works very well, especially as the grid opens up more and gives more possibilities.

        PROGRESS UPDATE!:

Wiki coming soon, probably within the next couple of weeks. It'll be a bit bare bones, but more in-depth information will be posted there as we continue progression.

I actually think you could do a great deal with the weird Fallout cultures take on what they think Canadian culture is like. Plenty of chances for stereotyping, Canadian slang, food, and so on. Hockey might be important. Likewise, you could have outsiders who survived with Canadian courtesy and survival skills.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

I think it's important to also recognize, that Canada is not a fictional culture; and making a mockery of it through stereotypes might not be appreciated by all Canadians. 🙂 Something to keep in mind.

@misadventure @Valkyrie I have asked a couple of my Northern friends to point me in the direction of things that are purely Canadian. Shows, lingo and the like, that makes them, well, them. Another will be aiding me with the area itself with his knowledge, so I hope to make them proud in ways, and not a mockery. We also DO have the idea pumping about survivalist kicking about due to just being use to a harsher elements already.

There will also, however, be the tongue and cheek things and possibly some lil slips of Easter Eggs on grid as well, as Fallout is want to do. ^_^

We'll be keeping everything in mind!

Americans and Canadians are extremely similar, with the exception of the government's that control us. Most things that are purely 'Canadian' or purely 'American' are outliers, and should probably not be taken as an example of that culture.

I.E. Most Americans do not like when people assume that they all act like people from 'X' State. Most stereotypical Canadian behavior is much the same, in that it comes from certain areas (provinces) within our country and is not in fact representative of the majority of our nation. I don't know Australia well enough to present a similar case, or example.

I would think that if anything it would make a mockery of American culture because in this case it will be a mockery of American culture trying to represent another culture. Or I would say that if mocking cultures isn't the sense of humor someone has, they wouldn't want Fallouts humor in the first place?

Or maybe people get serious. I know this pretty much shat on any interest I had in the idea. I'll leave it to the pros.

Some things that are examples are true, though, and it would not be used as something to mock someone else. People speak as they do because of where they're from. I think there's a difference between truth and umbrella perception. Either way, we're not specifically aiming to take on any culture what so ever with a blank, broad label. I was asking said friends because it wouldn't be fair for me to assume anything about a place I've never lived. Viewpoints would have also changed given the years, too. Regardless of what I'm offered, it might not even be used in the end.

I'm not sure Fallout itself is a good example of how not to stereotype, though. It has its share!

But yes, things are being considered during the creation of this game. We focus on setting, history, and the world around the players. We can't police how characters think or act on their own.

                        UPDATE!

The wiki is still getting an informational update/facelift, so please forgive any outdated information still there from our previous game. The wiki will be updated periodically and as soon as we work out how things will be going.

I have an incredibly important question for you, @RizBunz: Have you chosen a melancholy and ironic theme song for the game?

                          No rush.

                          How about now?

@rizbunz I actually kinda just really love that song. (The video is kinda neat storytelling, too.) It's good for a quirky dystopian apocalypse, though, for sure.

                                  Oh fucking well.

@rizbunz I think a playlist is in order. Definitely. It would also need 'Miss Atomic Bomb' by The Killers on it, just on principle.

                                      Oh fucking well.
