More seriously - @Cobaltasaurus does good design work, comes up with interesting settings and is willing to take risks on games that aren't a sure bet to get fifty log-ins a night. Sometimes that means that they don't catch on (and I hate every single one of you for not playing on the angel game, because I fucking loved that game), but MOST games don't catch on, or they have a brief honeymoon period and fall off into obscurity. That's just how the hobby goes.

More importantly (I think) no one knows if a project they're in love and want to do today will feel the same way months later when it comes to fruition, and any game worth a damn will require at least a few weeks before it's anywhere near a playable form.

That's before player buy-in and truly the main difference (again, to me) between running a MUSH and a table-top campaign. For the latter if I can imagine it I'm more than halfway there; I can make shit up on the fly, but as long as it's in my head I can get it out to a group of players, and if I tire of it or those players don't take to it the way I thought, or it's not as fun in reality as I imagined it... small loss. I can have a different idea the next day that I could put in front of a group the next night.

If no one but the most single-minded, obsessive, super determined workhorses made MU* we'd barely have any to complain about here.

But anyway, let's get back on topic to developing this one.

@arkandel Indeed. I am still intrigued by the possibilities of playing BATTLE CHEF. Or throwing elemental magic around, too. That would work. (but...battle chef...)

@Cobaltasaurus is fine. She's actually interested in doing her stuff and puts some effort into them usually, and what not.

There are other people on the board who are different to me. They have made it clear, time and time again, that they're just in it for the 'recognition' of being "that person who's making the new WoD game :D" and they want to be the SAVIOR OF MUING while providing McDonald's-esque experiences that they abandon after 2 months.

Those people still aren't hurting anything, and it's best to keep your mouth shut rather than going to those games' development threads to poo all over everything.

I would argue that it is a form of predatory behavior, after a certain point, when it's clear they're not doing it for the sake of enjoying making the game (and then losing interest), but for the attention that comes with it (and then tossing the game when they no longer have that 'owner of the shiny new WoD game' tag), but...I'll save that for another day and won't post about that again here.

Again, Cobalt isn't on that list for me.

Failing a project is just as important as succeeding at one.

You learn a lot and hopefully enjoy the trip.

Isn't @magee101 known for pissing/shitting in everyone's cereal/soup no matter what the genre, energy level, code base is?

Are we playing the Shocked Game? I love this game.

Let's get back to the game development discussions, please.

To be fair, cheerleading and positive feedback is incredibly important to even have game development discussions. Several of us—edit: including key players like myself and Chime—have pretty much given up on the hobby because of the incessant negativity and apathetic and sometimes even active abuse of people in this hobby.

In the meantime, we wait for Cobalt to decide if she wants to share her thoughts knowing that at any moment someone can make fun of her. What you're seeing is the people of this board trying to get back to that point by, e.g., cheerleading and deflecting negativity because they want to know what happens next. This is the kind of board you wanted; complaining about it now (and I see Ark's +1 Me Too vote) is kind of disingenuous.

And believe me, @Cobaltasaurus, a lot of us want to know what happens next. In your own time.

I'm not complaining about the positive feedback and vibes. I'd like to encourage that. It's the negative feedback and comments directed at the same.

It's also just a gentle reminder as to the purpose of this board.

My opinion: positive feedback is great; calling out fellow members for past behavior, true, false, bad, or good, is not conducive to the purpose of this board.

Right now I am slowly working on finishing out the two main duchies for each of the domains. The Demesne of the Glacier is finished-- and I'll show you here (please don't deface my wiki 😞 ...) as is for the Demesne of the Blaze. It's super slow going and a lot of stuff is going on in my head but hasn't been put to paper yet, but I'm trying to do a lot like @Apos does with starting characters and rosters. I want all of the upfront offered roster characters to be compelling and have awesome secrets.

                            http://wiki.sacred-seed.net/w/Demesne_of_the_Glacier

                            http://wiki.sacred-seed.net/w/Demesne_of_the_Blaze

                            The things I'm doing:

                            • Each of the Five domains has 3 duchies; two will be made upfront (save for the Blaze domain which I ended up writing the third anywise because INSPIRATION). The third duchy will be left open for players to create if they want to.
                            • Each duchy has three counties, each county has three baronies, etc. Unless in the process of world building I come up with an idea for a county or barony, those will be left in placeholder so that players can build their own houses / domains.
                            • Each domain has a "royal duchy" which is where the ruling family comes from, the duchy is usually ruled by the queen-mother/king-father/whatever-spouse of the previous ruler of the court, or an uncle, or etc.
                            • The Demesne of the Glacier's royal duchy is up in the air! Because Amos took over the court by force, and exiled the previous Queen. Her son is the duke of what was once the royal duchy, but he's the ahem royal guest of the court.

Some of the characters that have been made as I world build:

@maira I cannot count on both my hands and feet the number of players that have been let down by overly ambitious Staffers and designers. The fact that you took the time to twist and cajole and worry about my relationship with the OP is hilarious enough before you try and go out of your way to make this into a hogpit thread. You know, the reason people say no offense and MEAN IT is when they know what they say will sound offensive and sound like being an asshole but in truth they are just trying to say something they feel needs to be said but are npt trying to be intentionally mean. Have a good day, take your toxic shit to the hogpit.

ETA: I was not trying to be mean to Cobalt, what I saw was her saying I am getting overwhelmed in creation and work with this project, which is what she said about the last game she just closed and so I was just trying to be like "Welp, maybe you should look at not doing this for a minute." I think it is more important to look at the reality of a project or projects, what it will accomplish out of doing it or only partially doing it vs. The cost it takes to get there. If the process is becoming overwhelming to the point it is happening on more than one project maybe you need to look at going about it a different way or doing a different type of project. I am in no way trying to shit on Cobalt's parade, I am just trying to be the cold bucket of water after a weekend bender.

One thing I would like to see would be that feudal structure being messier and 'flatter', no 'each duke has X number of counts, who has Y number of baronies' with the relationship between them being fixed.

Have barons who are sworn directly to kings, have counts who are richer than dukes, etc. It makes things a whole lot more interesting and also reduces instances of 'Well all the duke slots are full, so I will play a count, who is identical to a duke when it comes to interacting with Noble Power stuff but shittier'.

If you decouple noble rank from a weirdly strict hierarchy you get much more in the way of fun options like 'upjumped' minor nobles with great wealth and power due to recent family fortune, barons who are key to the crown due to being close allies or a cadet house with direct allegiance, snakepit marriage alliances or ailing ducal houses in terrible debt, etc. All sorts of fun.

This is not positive feedback, and I'm not in the mood to argue about it.

@magee101 A constructive way to say this would be to maybe suggest narrowing the scope of the project down in the short term to make it more manageable, with suggestions that the OP might find useful. For example saying that if they feel overwhelmed, maybe just focus on the characters and the most basic elevator pitches for them and how she sees them interacting.

I don't think there is any case when telling someone that they should give up on a creative project is helpful or constructive, unless they are specifically asking for your opinion on whether it is worth the investment of their time.
