But the worst, the worst is that he is constantly trying to weigh in and lecture people on their eating habits and diets. Like, @Arkandel knows what he's talking about. That's clear enough. But I don't want someone who eats fast food 2-3 times a day trying to tell me that my meal isn't good enough (I usually have a sandwich, carrots, and either an orange or pretzels depending on mood for lunch). Esp. when it's usually 'you should buy <whatever frozen diet meal he's into right now>.'
I'm sick of it, but really I'm sick of him. For so many reasons. But the slob behavior and the need to comment on everyone's eating habits are big ones.
For starters it doesn't matter what shape you're in - unsolicited advice is a no-no. Even at any half-decent gym it never happens; no one should come over while you're working out to give you tips no matter if they're a world-class contender unless you already know them and that's the kind of relationship you have with them... or, I guess, if you're in immediate clear and present danger or something.
The same thing happens with technical issues though. I've heard too many lectures about how Google is stealing our information from people who don't understand how any of this works - who are feeding Facebook everything they do the rest of the time. Personally if I'm sitting at a table and the conversation gets to these matters I shut up unless I'm asked.

I am peeved by folks who be like: "I go to Planet Fitness because I don't get judged there!" The fuck you don't. Gym rats really aren't judging anyone but themselves; at least, the serious ones don't. And the best ones are the ones that wipe their equipment down, and stay off their fucking phones.

The only time I've discussed my meals with coworkers is in a 'keeping variety in lunches is expensive, yo' sort of way. I've never, ever brought up weight loss or eating better. I know I eat better than most people I work with (if I pick up fast food it's because I was running errands on my lunch hour and that happens maybe twice a month). I'm not thin, I know this. I'm also not obese. But I also have health issues that make my particular situation different. No I can't just 'go running,' (bad hip/knees, I'm not supposed to do that, never mind the fibro). No I can't just 'cut out all <X>' (thanks to intestinal issues, I go through periods of time where I can only eat certain things without feeling sick. Yes, one of those things is bread so fuck off with the gluten-free diet, people).
Like if he's trying to get people to join in / support him in wanting to lose weight (he talks about his OWN weight loss in passing sometimes), cool, whatever. But just open up with that. Don't throw around your opinion on everyone else's state of being. It's just alienating.

Aren't people too busy taking gym mirror selfies to judge anyone else anyway?

Discussing your own habits is perfectly acceptable. We all rant about something.

Insecurity is a very common background among people who're trying to stay fit. A lot of guys I know are pretty serious used to be quite heavy/skinny when they were kids and now they're overcompensating.
But even more so, and I say it with respect and love, being fit is, and should be, a very personal thing. You should be narcissistic in some way; it's your body, your goals, your effort and time, your choice of sports or routines, your motivation and discipline, your way.
It's okay to make it all about you.
-
Well, I also meant the meal thing in the light of: if all I'm doing is discussing the cost of shit, what makes a person think I'm inviting commentary on the meal and potential weightloss itself? No, damnit, if anything be all 'I've found <X> to be pretty cost effective!'
On the other front: I was mostly being facetious, but realistically... I think most people are too focused on themselves to care about others. When I have gone to a gym, I'm too busy angsting over whether or not I'm using equipment right than 'oh no did that person who glanced at me judge me.'

When you notice that you made a typo in an email ... several back and forths later.

I didn't get a puppy this week.
I wanted a puppy. I have pictures of the puppy I almost got. I had a name picked out.
But I am going to be very busy in the next year and it wouldn't be enough time to spend with the puppy so I'm doing the adult thing and not getting a puppy right now and I want to CRY because puppies are the best and the world needs more puppies and I need more puppies.
Dammit.
-
@darinelle If you have time now and then volunteer at a shelter. They almost always can use the help to walk their dogs and stuff, so that way you get to have many puppies.
-
@arkandel I have two 4 year old Australian Shepherds.
My problems is not that I don't have puppies to walk, it's that I don't have 600 Pyr puppies rolling around my floors.

The day a couple announces their engagement, offering the future bride unsolicited diet advice of how she should do keto and "just not eat carbs".
Fuck off, Mom.

My medical insurance can suck a wet burlap bag full of sea cucumbers. That's all.

Ah, are you a fellow United Healthcare sufferer?

Overhearing my boss on the phone running an issue up the line that we (a couple of us on the team) have been working on for the past few days. We need clearance to open up a service contract with a company for a scanner/copier/printer.
"I've been working hard on this the past few days."
Not "My team has been working on this"
"I've been working on this"
This is the same guy who brushes off every suggestion anyone makes until, a few weeks later, some modified altered (usually worse) version of it comes out that is entirely 'his.'
This is why whenever he asks me, anymore, if I have any suggestions/thoughts/ideas/feedback, I say no.
Just heard: "I'll go back in and get the model number off the printer. I thought I had it right here, but I don't." mf'er, you've not spoken to the user or touched the ticket once. You're only calling the client because you made sure the process required all communication with the client / level 3 filters through you! (Which has, btw, slowed down resolution on things massively.)

Super minor peeve: the spellchecker on my computer seems to have forgotten the word 'their.' But only some of the time.
So every so often it flags it as a word it doesn't know. Why? I don't fucking know. But it is maddening to have a word get flagged as wrong WHEN IT IS NOT WRONG.
-
@auspice I don't think their is a problem with that.

-
Hey dumbass, you can't "invent" existing natural forces. You can, however, discover them.
So sorry, but nobody "invented" electricity.
Idiot.
-
@cupcake Here's one to grind your gears.
-
@arkandel That's exactly the kind of intellectual quandary I would enjoy discussing with other people, however the dude who was going on about who invented electricity (and credited Thomas Jefferson, LOL) would probably be like
