Lancer RPG

I'm curious if anyone's tried out the Lancer RPG, "a mud-and-lasers RPG about mechs and the pilots who crew them." It seems interesting at first glance, as I'm always looking for that "lived-in" dirty future aesthetic.
The core rules are available for free: https://massif-press.itch.io/lancer-core-book
But the authors are also running a Kickstarter for art, editing, & layout improvement: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/massifpress/lancer

@fatefan I've heard that these guys are tied to or using a similar system as Shadow of the Demon Lord, which was crunchy in tiny ways that built up.
Downloading the core rules to see now. I'll probably back Lancer for my collection, though.

@fatefan Update: First glance?
I can imagine that some of this stuff can build up to be cumbersome, but it looks fun.
Example: Level-based mecha assignment alongside character stats alongside stuff like tonnage, hardpoints, etc. For mecha gaming veterans it's no sweat, but might probably cross the eyes of people who aren't used to tracking all that.
-
@Ghost I agree that it definitely could be a bit too much to digest all together. I have not yet had the chance to sit down and try to make a character or walk through a test conflict--hopefully I can do so shortly to see how immediately cumbersome it is (vs. what might end up emerging, complexity-wise, over time).

I Kickstarted it because Kill Six Billion Demons. I will probably never play it even once.

@Thenomain I was reminded this morning that Abbadon made a PbtA-based Kill Six Billion Demons RPG that I still need to play, too...

And suddenly all his side-stories becomes RPG fodder, giving you an excuse to burn through the entire backlog again.
Like anyone needed a reason.

@Thenomain I admit I am tempted to try the $10 Patreon tier for a month just to see what kind of relevant lore he posts that might be useful...

I backed it. I liked that it was largely narrative driven and the art totally sold it for me. I don't usually go in for giant mech games because they're usually so focused on fapping mech stats, but this seems like it has a more narrative focus, and I dig that. (And I can deal with some crunch as long as I'm engaged with the world.)
-
@juke It definitely seems to be the case that the mech part of it is very tactical, with a lot of potential customization options for mech suits etc., but the out-of-mech stuff is incredibly rules-light and narrative-focused.
I feel compelled to try to work through what a MU* system setup for it could do and whether it might function well at all.
-
Since Gen:LOCK dropped I've been looking for a good mech game that wasn't just a tactical battle simulater. I get that the mech stuff is more tactical, but from what I see this is what I'm looking for. Also backed it!

I'm just going to leave this right here.
No reason.

@Thenomain I've had it recommended to me previously! It looks great.
