Two things inspired me to post this; the announcement and subsequent excitement for Stargate MU and the realization that we seem to be in a dry spell gaming wise. So, my question is...what types of MUs do people think might do well in the current climate(by do well I mean having, let's say, 10-15+ unique IPs connected at peak hours).

Games based on IPs(TV, Movie, Comic, or Game)?
      Ghostbusters
      TMNT
      Transformers
      Star Wars
      Star Trek
More comic games(combined universes, single universes, games focused on an aspect of a single universe such as the X-Men or Teen Titans)
      Judge Dredd
      Godzilla/Monsterverse
      D&D/Pathfinder
      Vampire 5E

What about games that focus on a particular theme?
Combat. Make a Wrestling, or Mortal Kombat, or Street Fighter game with coded combat and rankings and champions and all that good stuff.

Horror. Kind of like Gray Harbor where you play normal humans in a world filled with monsters. I know of two or three like this that are in the works.

Erotic/Sex-based. Sex is huge on most games so what about a game that maybe doesn't put a focus on it but doesn't stigmatize it the way some games do? Could be any theme; fantasy, superhero(I know there have been a few done in the past like Flights & Tights and Super Perils MUX), sci-fi(I once played on a semi-private Star Wars game that had a major sex sub-theme that worked well for those of us who played it), etc.

Mystery based. Think RPGs like Gumshoe where solving mysteries is the driving force of the narrative. I think this would need HEAVY staff involvement obviously but could be fun.

Those are the things off the top of my head anyway. I'm just curious to see what people think other people would like to see and play at. For me, I know it'd get furry stigmatized immediately, but I'd love a TMNT game.

I always wanted a Discworld game set in Ankh Morpork.

I've never read Wheel of Time. I've always wanted to though. Might give it a shot this summer.

And yes! Discworld! That'd be a blast.

I desperately want a Bardugoverse game. Honestly the Arx code base would probably work well for one once adjusted.

I debated working on one briefly (in Ares) before Stargate, but the idea of doing it solo was a bit overwhelming.

@Auspice - eh. I think the Arx codebase would work well for the political and general setting side of things, but as soon as you bring Grisha into the mix, you'd need to gut the magic system I've been putting in, and write a new one (unless you wanted to just handwave the mechanics of Grisha powers).

You could go more Six of Crows, though, and have Grisha be a thematic element that is Over That Way Somewhere, rather than quite so major as it would be if you set the game in Ravka.

I'd love a Valdemar game. But Mercedes Lackey has forbidden them. Not sure if that's changed at all.

However, you could have a Blue Rose game which is based on the 'romantic fantasy' genre that is Valdemar.

Yeah, as much as my inner eight year old (and really, my outer current horse owner) would love a game where I can have a magic horse, it would get C&D'd.

@Sparks I'd want to set it in Ketterdam. Of the countries so far in the books, it's my favorite and the one I think would suit a MU best.

I am craving Star Wars RP, especially if the FC are more background character type NPCs instead of characters people can RP as. The time between The Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope would be righteous as it'd give a lot of wiggle room for theme.

I've been reading Rebecca Roanhorse and Ilona Andrews lately, so I'm starting to fall in love with post-apocalyptic urban fantasy. The idea that magic came roaring back and wrecked our society before we could finish doing ourselves is a fun concept. And there are tons of avenues open that 'traditional' urban fantasy (as much as there can be tradition in a genre about thirty years old) can't explore. And no veil/masquerade.

As someone who constantly tries to take X idea and make it work in Y ruleset, there are a literal ton of games I'd like to see done/do. TO NAME A FEW (or break them down in a non-standard thematic way of 'those should not go together at all')

                                SPACE!
Star Wars, Eclipse Phase, Spell Jammer, possibly Equinox.

My interest in these relies heavily on getting some flight sim code happening, so the more I will love it and am more likely to play, the more likely everyone else will hate them. RIP.

                                CRUNCHY!
Mechawarrior/Battletech, Iron Kingdoms RPG, or Pokemon Tabletop United.

Two of these are tabletop wargame settings/rulesets, so all the crunch. Battletech might have gone in space, due to Aerotech, but I'd be down for not having real-time flight for it. Iron Kingdoms, meanwhile, almost requires RPG skirmishes to function using wargame rules, including listing weapon attack ranges in inches, because 'lol, of COURSE they will be using miniatures!' Pokemon... is Pokemon. Game Freak will no longer let you catch them all, but that won't stop us!

                                TOO TRICKSY/...HOW?!?
                                Cosmere.

Literally just a mosh pit of the assorted cultures and powahz taken from the various books of the Cosmere. I have put 0 thought into this one.

Probably some others, honestly, but those are the ones that come to mind while being distracted at work.

@Jennkryst I love space sims, too. When I first came across Evennia my immediate thought was how extensive a space system you could design in python. But I am a baby coder so I could never make it happen.

I still vote for a 3.5 Dark Sun game.

So, for whatever value my 2 copper pieces are...

D&D Spelljammer, Birthright, Dark Sun. As much as I love the Forgotten Realms, something besides the 'standard' fantasy setting. Birthright is also a L&L game with a simple wargame component and intrigue/politics rules.

Deadlands There's really not any Western-themed games out there, and Deadlands has the extra weird horror element to bring in players.

TORG The new edition is still doing well and is a fantastic multi-genre game allowing Players and Storytellers great flexibility in creating and running.

Blue Rose For the L&L/Valdamar fix

Star Wars Set in a single sector so the Players have a greater impact on the game setting

Superhero Preferably an all-original setting to avoid some of the hassles that the all-FC settings have in regards to characters, power levels, etc.

Scion The first 2 books for Second Edition are available now.

                                          Fading Suns

                                          Traveler

                                          Eclipse Phase

                                          Altered Carbon

'Victorian' Era You can add in a genre like Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, or Superheroes. Or, a straight up Space 1889 or Victorious game.

I'd be totally down for a Ravenloft game. Deadlands could be cool too. What I'd really like to see is a darker themed superhero game. FC or OC but something along the lines of Savage Worlds Necessary Evil where all or most of the heroes died fighting some cosmic villain and it's left to the villains to save the world from total devastation. Or something along the lines of Dark Avengers/X-Men or Justice Lords from JLU.

Or something that embraces the madness of Rifts. A game where any character(mostly) is feasible.
