Map Making Skills

In search of someone with really good digital map making skills. Someone who could take the following map and recreate it in their own style, sans the keys/legend information, remove a few buildings and add a few more.

@Lotherio You might want to look into wonderdraft, it is a fantastic map making program that makes this sort of thing super easy and fun.

Can I just be that person and say ask permission before you take a thing and do something with it if it isn't yours. There's quite a few folks here that would be able to chime in with their legal background too.
If you want to draw a really crappy pencil and paper outline that is your work and not tracing something else and post it here, and you then want someone to prettify that up, I could help. Got to though be your work from the start.

Legally, whether something is free use or not relies on a whole host of factors that aren't readily apparent from the initial post. If that map was released under a full creative commons license, he can do whatever the hell he likes with it. If it's copyrighted, then technically speaking it probably shouldn't even be up on the board (not that it matters; that sort of copyright violation happens all the time).

Removed. Just for everyone information. That's the tour map of Stourhead, a massive estate that is one of the many holdings of the National Trust. They are pretty liberal with copyright on many of their own digital images and artworks held by the trust. They clearly indicate on those images most likely to be republished what is copyrighted or public domain. They do have an entire site dedicated to images from their holdings with many of the images cleared for reuse with property and model releases while being clear if other copyright issues may apply (such as images on loan from private holders). They have bigger fish to fry I imagine than the tour map of Stourhead
My use is intended as derivative with no intent to infringe upon any profit if the tour map is copyright protected. In fact, I'd highly recommend folks visit Stourhead, they do have rooms and cottages available on the premise at pretty decent rates (all things considered, staying at a national heritage site). Those folks that played my short lived Pendragon Mu, Stourhead is near the source of the River Wyle which ran near Salisbury. Its in the neck of the woods Morgan le Fay has retreated to (so to speak). Its an awesome Palladian home and estate (18th Century).
I've removed it, that way no one has to be concerned with legality of it.

I doubt a direct link is illegal.

@Derp DO YOU KNOW HOW ANTSY I GET WHEN I SEE A DELETED REPLY TO SOMETHING I'VE WRITTEN
OUT WITH IT
ETA I was trying to say that there's no way someone could make an accurate legal analysis based on what was just in this thread, not that anyone had done anything wrong. I also don't do IP law.

@Lotherio I saw that it's an actual place, and so made my own. Mainly to show that just very quickly, you can create really interesting things.
Edit: Happy to help make this much better, and it can be yours.

Exactly what I was looking for with interpretation by the map maker. That's a great looking map of the area, in its own style, different buildings.
I understand it creating interesting can be done, and I usually go to Autorealm for layers and detail. I know it takes me a while to do that, I get stuck in the details. I was hoping for someone who enjoys making maps and can add their own creativity to it, in a shorter turn around. I'm okay creating something (comes with the territory in getting a BFA), I also know my limits.
If its okay to use that I would very much like that, if you want to add more detail as you like, I'm open to see what you come up with and am willing to discuss more of it with you.

@Lotherio In regards to that map I did above? It's yours. I can help make it better by putting some time into it over this week and next. I find it fun and relaxing.

Long years ago I went down the rabbit hole of learning how to make maps, from scratch using the Saderan tutorial from the Cartographer's Guild forum.
was as far as I got after hours of tweaking and fiddling and fussing around.
It can be obsessive work. But the Saderan tutorial is a lot of fun. It's on this page (along with a ton of others).
If anyone is interested I actually tracked each stage up to the above.
