What's your monitor setup?
-
TIME FOR ANOTHER RANDOM POLL.
I'm curious which monitor is your primary (as in has your desktop icons, etc etc). I tend to assume it's the left monitor but realized: it might not be the case for everyone.
Yeah, totally pointless poll but sometimes we need some more lighthearted banter around here.

Should I answer based on which hand I hold my phone in?
-
I have 6 monitors at home and 3 at work. So I use my bottom middle monitor as my primary.

@Seamus
Are you in finance / trading?
-
@Jeshin
At work, I'm in Medical Regulatory.
At home, I play a lot of MMOs and stuff, so I have monitors that hold guides, forums, chats, PotatoM* etc, depending on my mood. One is usually just for music or movie streaming. Why I have six? Why not? -
@Seamus I have 2 but i think 4 is my goal.

3 is my goal but even with my new desk I'm not sure how I'd ever get there. I guess wall mounts?
-
You should go to 4, you can do tower mounts 2 on top and 2 on the bottom to form a cube.
-
Back when I used two, before I switched to streaming to my laptop, I had one monitor directly facing the keyboard and a second one slightly offset to the left. That left one generally ran Discord.
-
In my case, it's less monitors, and more 'two iMacs'.
Boomerang is a 2010. All the social and entertainment foo is on it. On the left.
The unnamed iMac pro is on the right, usually rendering batches of fractals. It has email on it now so I don't lose anything when Boomerang finally doesn't come back, but it requires less steady attention.
We were going to hook up the old monitor, but we're still trying to figure out how. It's stumped many a pro. If I'm being honest with myself, though, there's not really room for it unless I build it a lift to hover above the current pair, which wedge into the corner of a 70x70 L desk; I just spin the chair as needed.
For sanity, I use keyboard and mouse sharing software.

At work I put my laptop on a dock and it becomes my main monitor, with two additional monitors added on. At home the work laptop gets plugged into one extra screen, its screen remaining the main, and I'll have my personal computer also running on the desk. All the screens, all the computers.

I'm still sorting out my work setup, tbh. I haul my laptop to meetings too often to just close the lid and use the two monitors, so I absolutely count as 'three monitors' at work, but currently I have the 'upper left' (I guess you could say?) set as the primary, but that means all my windows freak out when I get back to my desk and plugin. So I might just do as you are.
At home, my left is absolutely my primary and my arrangement is usually:
Potato + Discord on the left, plus secondary (usually has stuff like PDFs, teaching cert stuff, etc) Chrome
Primary Chrome + whatever I might be watching or playing on the right -
@Auspice I don't need three monitors for every single thing I do, but when I do need them, damn is it nice to have them. I like training my eyebrains to always look to the laptop as main; it'll never fail contextually.
-
@Auspice Turns out you are (at the time of this writing) 30% that heartless b. It's time for a profile update!
I own two monitors, myself, but I have not even come close to trying to get them working together because I reserve one for my console gaming.
-
Wow some of you guys must have gargantuan desks. There's room for a single monitor on mine. Fortunately it's a 4k monitor and I don't really need another, but still...
-
I did just get a new desk (because my cat broke the main support on my old one):
YES. SHARE YOUR SETUPS.
I love seeing peoples' desks, I won't lie.
-
@Auspice Not until i do a lot of cleaning...

I am obsessive over a clean desk.
I'd say 'That was taken right after I setup the desk' (which it was), but two days later, it still looks that way. Only difference is that I have a water bottle on it rn.
